I want to know why they can't give him the correct jeans/boots look either if they're going to do something like this Basic. My Toybiz figure of him shouldn't be better than what Mattel is putting out like 18 years later. Whatever, easy pass. Seriously. So true The boots thing is a big gripe of mine. Also why do they keep giving him ginger hair and windswept bangs on one side? MDT seems to be doubling down on everything people complained about

A headscan is not just about capturing a physical likeness A headscan is literally the scanning of a head.

DDP smiling is pretty much how the casual wrestling fan remembers him so they're always going to use that expression on his figures. Even if they did make a serious DDP scan that you've been asking for years it'd STILL suck because Mattel's paint application is horrible.

Fair point I suppose, and I guess people do sometimes tend to remember recent things more strongly than older things. But it doesn't make it right. No matter how many people remember something wrong, even if it's the majority, they are still wrong. Even if DDP himself specifically requested all his figures were smiling and it wasn't actually Mattel's fault, I would still protest because figures should be accurate to history and I don't agree with anyone trying to or being allowed to "edit" it. For me figures are about celebrating my memories of wrestling and Mattel's DDP headscans do not capture the serious/intense DDP I remember.

I can see how it could be disappointing, especially since he doesn't have same hair treatment the Legends figure did, but I really like the one they went with because it looks like he's shouting "BANG!!!", like he used to do after the diamond cutter so often.

I had hoped Bill had picked up on the hate for the smiling DDP head and would give us a new one, which obviously did happen, but why why why couldn't it have been a serious headscan... Smiling-open-mouth isn't any better than teeth-smiling. The only one hating on his smile here is you - and Bill has picked up on that. Just like you asked Jakks to make Vito over and over again back in the day - and it never happened. The wrestling figure gods must hate you - or maybe you shouldn't pick one issue and harp on it over and over again until you drive everyone insane.

Also I agree about figures having to look accurate to history but we've seen 2 flashback Rocks with ripped torsos (RSC, E31) and every Elite Ric Flair, including the upcoming DM (apparently) has a 6 pack and many more major innacuracies compared to a serious DDP scan. Honestly the new basics 2 major problems are the paint app on the head and not using a jeans tucked into boots mold.

Its def a "BANG" screaming head. certainly wouldn't qualify this as a smiling sculpt

Looks let's put this myth to bed. DDP the character has for the MAJORITY of his career been either a smiling/laughing valet with the Freebirds, manager with Diamond Studd, heel with Vinnie Vegas in the early 90s or a WCW fan favourite taking the fight to the nWo in the late 90s. Yes for a brief period (you heard me Assassin) he was Mr. serious Stalker, but reflecting on his career - the DDP character has been happy for most of it.
DDP the man is an outstanding individual that has turned the lives around of so many people through his yoga and REAL positive attitude. He's well respected in the industry and has been one of the very few former wrestlers actually doing something amazing for others.
Has it ever once occurred to you that DDP himself probably prefers to be remembered as a happy and fun character in wrestling? We know some wrestlers give input into the creation of their figures - could he possibly not want a serious scan my friend? For being such a big fan of DDP, you make some large assumptions.

Serious or smiling, I was kind of hoping for short hair to be honest.

Sorry mrhoss, according to Assassin, what you've just shown in that clip is the very very very rare and few times he's shown his pearly whites... /sarcasm good grief.

When I think of DDP I think of him as a good guy, great energy and always happy. I have been more than happy with the figures that have been coming out. Wouldn't mind the crazy DDP but I will always get his figures.

I can understand someone wanting a certain look. But to me when I think DDP it is always him smiling. That said this new looks more like a yelling expression (Yelling "Bang" like EastCoast mentioned) I don't mind the hair because while he was a blonde, because I do remember him having a strawberry blonde look at times. If I had one complaint it would be the lower legs/boots I remember him wearing jeans tucked into his workboots. Same issue I have with the NWO street clothes Hall.

The problem is not his facial expression, its the fact he has the same hair color as Opie Taylor. This is what people should be mad about.

Looking back, I really hate how they always have his hair swept to the side instead of having the full mullet. Now I want a snarling, gritting teeth DDP like his smash n slam lol.

You cannot get a better reference photo than that picture of the Jersey Triad. Seriously, now I want a straight-faced, intense DDP scan too
