So like the title says, Jon Jones was suspended indefinitely by the UFC and stripped of his UFC Light Heavyweight title due to his arrest for a hit and run in New Mexico yesterday. Dana has announced that Daniel Cormier will take Jones' place at UFC 187 against Anthony Johnson for the strap. It's not for the interim title, but the actual championship itself.
Personally, I'm surprised they stripped him of it so quickly. I figured they would wait until the legal proceedings has finished to make that decision, however I definitely expected the suspension. Who do you guys think takes the belt now? I think it got a lot more interesting than I found Jones/Johnson to be and I see a really awesome fight on the horizon with DC taking home the gold.

How many chances does this guy need? I'm glad they did it swiftly.
He ran a red light, hit a pregnant woman, left her with a broken arm, and then fled the scene only to come back to grab cash. There was marijuana left in the car and the car is linked to him. There is an eyewitness who swear it was him. How much more evidence do you need?
He's already been in trouble before (DUI & Cocaine use). It pisses me off that he had the balls to flee the scene after hitting someone. What a piece of crap. I'm sure he's trying to pay this woman off now.
If any "normal" human being would've done the same thing that Jones did, they'd be fired/suspended/fined without hesitation. He shouldn't get any special treatment because he's a great athlete. He's not above the law.
With that said, Rumble is my pick to win.

As a martial arts practitioner and instructor, we teach clean living, respect, integrity, and discipline, virtues which Jon Jones hasn't shown for a long time. I don't need to go into his rap sheet, because that's been done to death. The main points that need to be taken from all of this is that as the face of modern martial arts, you need to conduct yourself accordingly. That means holding yourself to a higher standard and showing accountability. And it can't be his entourage that does it, because they are mostly yes men, and at the end of the day it's not Greg Jackson's job to hold Jon's hand and act as his conscience. This falls on Jon, who has shown that he doesn't make good decisions.
So I applaud Lorenzo and Dana for making that decision. It's certainly not a popular decision to some, but Jon needs to get help. Simple as that. He is too talented of a fighter to let stupidity ruin his career. I'm not trying to act as the moral police, but there's an obvious pattern that suggests Jon has problems controlling his vices. I just hope the girl's baby is ok.
Jon will probably go away for a year and attempt to get himself right, and when he comes back, he'll fight a top 5 before getting a shot to get the belt back.

May be too late, he'll never get another endorsement after this, at least not one like REEBOK. He wants to live this way, he showed it by spitting in everyone's face with that first "rehab" stint. He doesn't deserve the fame, he's pissed away chance after chance that some would kill to get. He's good, good for him. UFC is still a company and good isn't good enough to keep you employed.

I think Dana White and Zuffa in general have handled the Jon Jones situation poorly ever since the cocaine debacle. I mean, they knew the guy popped his piss test for coke almost two weeks before his fight with Cormier and they kept it hush hush until they cashed in on the pay day. Instead of handling this situation with Jon Jones the right way when he failed the drug test, they let let it snowball out of control. If anything, turning the other cheek every other time Jones had a major screw up may have caused Jon to grow even more reckless since he probably felt like he had Zuffa in the palm of his hand and could get away with whatever the hell he wanted to. I think they made the right call this time, but I also feel that they came out of this situation looking just as unprofessional and delirious as Jonny Bones did.

completely agree with what the UFC has done. Everyone handed his failed his failed drug test poorly but the WAQDA bylaws screwed them.

I'm a little late, but good to see him losing everything for his terrible behavior. UFC came down hard.

UFC did the right thing here... Jones was already on his last chance. It's sad that a guy with so much natural skill and talent just continues to mess his career (and life) up though.
Cool of DC to step up at relatively short notice... him and Rumble should be a good fight.
