5 year deal.
Now he gets to try and get Durant to sign long term.

Who didn't see this coming after Kevin Ollie dropped out?

We've known it was going to be Donovan almost since the season started here in OKC. That name has been tossed around here for years.

I don't see it working out. I never thought much of Billy Donovan as a head coach and I've never been a fan of firing a relatively successful NBA coach in the hopes that a college coach will outdo him.

Expectations on him are way high, which will either make him or break him. If he does bad, the Thunder are going to look really bad for firing their old coach.

Scott Brooks just wasn't much of a coach, so if Donovan is even average he'll be an upgrade. And you have to figure the Thunder brass ran this decision by Durant so he must be on board or at least okay with the move.
That said, from everything I know about Donovan, he seems like he has the same weaknesses as Brooks, particularly concerning offensive creativity. Making life easier on RWB and Durant is going to be pretty big.

The problem with the Thunder is that most of their salary goes to KD/RWB, which is okay because there great but the rest of the roster is pretty garbage. They'll still have to carry 80%+ of the load, with a little on Ibaka, their SG and Kanter and then that's it. All starting 5, no bench.

I think billy Donovan will do great! I have always liked him as a coach and I think he is able to get his team up and running, and OKC is definitely a run and gun team.
