I am in the same position, I've sold off about a third of my collection in the past few months mainly because of money reasons (saving for my first car).
But then everytime I have a little extra cash I'm straight down the shops to buy another figure! Defining Moments Razor I couldn't resist!
And every so often I'm mourning the figures I've sold off... Wtf!? lol
Our hobby is deceptively addictive.

I can definitely identify....
My collection has grown so large, I can't even display half of it.... so, I find myself buying things, determining whether they're "display-worthy" to displace something I already have out, and then putting either the new item, or an older item that I love right into a plastic bin. Then, I ask myself why I'm spending money buying stuff that's just going to sit inside a box, not particularly going up in value.
Add to that, yesterday I had my first pickups in nearly a month, because retail distribution has been so slow the last two months, really. Since the stores haven't really been stocking anything, I haven't even been checking as frequently as I used to.... and I didn't seem to mind so much, I even had a little more spare cash than normal - and it was nice!
The retail distribution really has been a joke - most stores only get 1 case of a new set, and then they're gone and the pegs sit empty for weeks and weeks.... so it's not really that much fun to "hunt" anymore. I find myself leaving most stores disappointed & feeling like I wasted my time.
Finally, I've been an autograph-hound lately, trying to get my personal photos with wrestlers signed... I've been framing the pictures & hanging them throughout my "man-cave" and I almost feel like I'm enjoying THIS hobby more than my figure-collecting.... and that's okay!
2015 has been Mattel's best year yet - I've added some figures to my collection that I never thought I'd have.... so, I'm going to continue just buying the essentials while Mattel is on such a hot streak.... but I definitely see myself slowing down, for the reasons I've listed above...
I don't really see myself selling off my collection though.

have a son.
Share it with him. It'll make you smile that his favorite toys are your favorite wrestlers from when you grew up. It works for me

I think the same thing every other week. It's usually during slow times like now that I'm not really looking forward to adding anyone to my collection
I'm sure I'm in this just to collect, when the collecting is over, I can picture myself selling

LOL! You of all people definitely know I went through this type of thing years ago - after all, you helped me sell off a huge chunk of my collection!
not telling you what to do, but it's easier to maintain and keep a collection if you set limits and boundaries, per se. as everyone knows, my main thrust is the Legends/DM's, FB - style of wrestlers. but I also have a small current roster collection. but for that current roster collection, I keep myself to only one version of a specific wrestler, unless circumstances and/or attires warrant more then one ( for instance, I have casual slacks wrestlign gear Kane, but I also have suit and tie Corporate Kane. same thing with Triple H - E35 for the wrestling gear, and a suit and tie version as well). even if you pare it down to one Cena for the current collection, one Big Show, one Bray Wyatt, One Luke Harper, etc. , you'll find yourself with more cash and more room in a hurry.

I'm there right now haha I have over 200 elites loose, but my passion has turned into signed moc elites, dm' and exclusives, along with posters, 8x10's etc.. However I found use for these loose figures when I made a lightbox yesterday and I'm able to showcase them to their full extent I think you need to find something to do with them... Like a hobby within a hobby. Otherwise you get to a point where you see them all just sitting there on a shelf and wonder.. Why do I have these? Or why do I keep buying them? This is some of the best advice I have ever read on wrestlingfigs.com. With that being said, I personally have got a lot more picky with what I am buying. Time, space, and cost all play a factor in this. The thrill of the hunt is no longer there because I never can find anything retail and the fact that the actual tv product doesn't interest me as much. So, if the figure isn't "pre-order" worthy I usually don't buy it anymore. So, I too think I have lost the collecting bug to a certain degree. I almost think I collect now out of habit more than hobby.

Yea limit yourself to what you like and/or need. Selling off something that you dont enjoy too much anymore isnt a bad thing. Plus Mattels elite line hasnt been great the last few series.

Less is more. Especially as you get older and need that money for things. That doesn't mean abandon your hobby but scale back on how much you buy and only get the releases you really want. That probably means passing up on some awesome figures but just get your must haves.

I can relate to this on many levels.
For one, DVDs and Blu Rays for me. Why collect them to have them get watched once and then sit on a shelf?? I can just stream them online. Same with the WWE DVDS. Having the WWE Network makes it a bit easier to part with certain WWE DVDs you no longer care to have.
As for figure, I have had this problem time and time again, for my entire life of collecting. I have sold a figure, bought it again, sold it again, bought it again. It all depends on the flavour of the moment for ya, I guess.
Plus, when you have multiple figures of one guy, it takes up space that you don't really need. You are better off having 1, 2, or even 3 figures of said person that are your favourites, than having 12 or so figures of said person.

Wow! Great post and even greater responses. I don't want to copy and paste each response that spoke to me, but here's where I'm at. I'm 40 and have been a wrestling fm fan since I was 12. I've always collected wrestling figures. Sold off past collections every time a new license came along. Collected Mattel from day one, but sold them all a coupe years ago. Since then got into and resold a couple times lol. Now I'm thinking of stopping again, but not completely. 50 guys that size on a shelf doesn't do a lot for me right now. I want money to invest in higher end stuff like hot toys and sideshow. I'm also getting into the marvel legends figures right now. Love what their doing. Wrestling wise, they come out with too much too fast. I barely get to enjoy a figure before I see a new set at the store and feel obligated to buy it. I've been tinkering with just buying exclusives and certain figs that look great in the box. Perfect examples lately are ringside HBK and the Paige figure. They look great displayed and helps me choose more wisely. I returned my target HOF set yesterday because I wanted more money for my Vegas trip tomorrow. But to be honest, from that MIB display perspective, Warrior is the only one who does it for me. I also have a small but nice 8x10 autograph collection. Getting more into wall visuals as far as that, ppv posters or movie posters, and art work. Also you wise, going back to selling off old lines, I'm at that age where nalstagia speaks more to me so I sometimes think I'd rather have that hasbro doink instead of the new Mattel one. Sorry for the long post lol, but that's where I'm at. Will always be a collector, but think my taste is changing and have to figure how to respond and adapt to that desire.

Yeah I lost my passion for wrestling figures a long time since it just doesn't do anything for me anymore. I collect the high end stuff like Bandai Figuarts, D-Arts and Figma. I also love collecting the Marvel Legends line as well, but I recommend not selling your collection cuz trust me you will regret it. If you lost interest in WWE figures you should just stop and focus on other collections like finishing up your DBZ Figuarts collection.

This has happened to me. It started when my step-Daughter outgrew Professional Sports Wrestling Entertainment. In my mind, what really happened was the Hardy Boyz left WWE, but she'll never admit it. Anyway, my son was born and took all of her WWE figures. I noticed that whenever we would go to Toys R Us, he wouldn't ask for WWE figures. That's when it hit me. He like watching it, but he loves a lot of other things. I couldn't bring myself to buy figures anymore, but I will never stop buying Championship Title Belts that I can afford. That's when I decided to only collect the shiny VAC Championship Title Belts. My spending has been cut down drastically, but I'm happier than ever knowing I'm getting exactly what I want without overdoing it. Moderation is the key that'll unlock happiness without regret.
