So next week I'll be taking a mini-trip (2 days) to D.C.
I've never been there before. I was supposed to go in 8th grade back in October 2001 but Septemeber 11th happened and a lot of stuff was closed so we ended up going to Philadelphia, Gettysburg and Hershey instead.
I'm looking forward to seeing the sights and definitely want to check out the Police Memorial. I've heard getting around in traffic is a real bitch because of one way streets and parking is also a hassle.
Anybody live there or visit often? Any tips or recommendations? Where are some good spots to get food like where the locals go? Are there any good micro-breweries out there? I collect pint glasses from local breweries from whatever place I'm visiting and try the beer.
Thanks in advance!

The metro is your best bet for navigating through the city. I belive the police museum is around a block from the judiciary square stop. There are tons of places to park outside of the city and hop on the metro. Just download the D.C. metro map and it'll tell you all you need to know and it has a map of the system.
As far as breweries go, I'm not super familiar with northern VA. However, there are tons in central VA. Center of the universe brewery is in Ashland, Devil's Backbone is in Lexington, and Starr Hill is in Charlottesville.

There's a butt load of amazing restaurants and microbrews inside the park.

The Holocaust museum is definitely an eye opening experience if you get a chance. You're right about the traffic by the way.
