Steiner and Taker were both face at the time, so it would have made no sense storyline wise.
Steiner should have squashed Flair to save face after losing to HHH twice.

I don't subscribe to the theory that WWE signs people just so they can purposely have them fail. Scott Steiner included. I know it makes a great conspiracy theory, but it'd be counterproductive. And you don't become successful by throwing money away.
I would assume WWE brass knew about Scott's foot before they had signed him. But he most likely downplayed it a bit because he wanted the big contract. I think they went into the first Triple H/Steiner match with high hopes. That's why they had the DQ finish so both men looked strong and it'd set up the inevitable rematch. Problem is all Scott could do was belly to belly suplexes. IMO that's why the match fell flat after the first ten minutes. Because there was no move variety. Scott's immobility was far worse than they assumed.
I know I'm biased but I totally agree Triple H was way too big at that time. His matches suffered because of it. And he had the thigh injury that didn't help in his Steiner matches either. But Triple H was still was having entertaining matches with Nash, Booker, & HBK on a regular basis. So obviously he could still go enough.
They tried again, but the rematch at NWO was not much better. So they left an Scott off the WM card rather than shoehorn him into a match that most likely would not have been very good. Even the rest of Steiner's WWE career wasn't anything special. His run with Stacey & Test never lived up to anything. His matches were never very good. Scott never rebounded because he never impressed. Fans were disappointed but I'm sure WWE was too.

I agree with you here Marino I'm sure they didn't sign him to fail. its more a look at the thought process within WWE at the time.....which was repeatedly shown to be extremely short sighted & negative in 2003. I mean.....why they did they go with the exact same formula at NWO in February? A stipulation match would have protected Steiner much better here.....y'know to try and preserve his aura a touch. So Vince could have another star? To mile a few $$ out of?Why not have a cage match (where its stipulated Steiner doesn't get another shot if hes beat) and have have Flair handcuff him to the mesh while HHH escapes? HHHs ego would likely have prevented this scenario though. Having Flair as the main cause he lost at NWO would have yielded a nice little match at WM19 where Steiner could slaughter Flair in a no DQ affair...... BUT Flair and Steiner had real life issues.......and he was probably in HHH & Stephs ear since November about him. And Flair still though he was a top tier performer in 2003......so this likely wouldn't have worked because HHH would have vetoed it. Like I say......Stephs power became an issue in 2001......a legit problem in 2002 and a f*cking disease in 2003.

Think of it this way: Scott Steiner, Goldberg etc were all big stars in WCW, and were big time players in the eyes of fans. They bring them in, having their own talent go over these big stars. Their own talent looks better and more legitimate which = more money on merch etc.

It's always easy to look back and rebook a storyline. Cause we know what didn't work so we assume the opposite will fix everything. Triple H has cheated 90% of his career, especially during that run. And if you recall it took 3 other members of Evolution, a shot from the title, & a Pedigree to get Steiner down at NWO. So I'm not sure why you'd think Triple H's ego would come into play with how Steiner lost. As I said the other day "If Triple H's ego was as massive as some claim, he'd never have to cheat & he'd never need help. When in reality, he almost always needs one or the other, most times both, just to win match. Think of it this way: Scott Steiner, Goldberg etc were all big stars in WCW, and were big time players in the eyes of fans. They bring them in, having their own talent go over these big stars. Their own talent looks better and more legitimate which = more money on merch etc. WWE's talent was already considered to be far superior at that time due to the last few dismal years of wCw. I'd be willing to bet WWE wishes Steiner & Goldberg would have panned out much like Booker T did.

I'd go with him facing the Undertaker as well. Even after he was exposed as a broken mess, Scott Steiner was still infinitely more interesting than Big Show and Albert. Plus a heel turn after No Way Out would have given him a bit of momentum back.

Wasn't Scott injured during his WWE run? Please say yes, it makes the pain hurt less. Yes. Steiner had drop foot where his foot would go numb and limp. He could barely walk let alone go 25 minutes. HHH was hurt as well as he was dealing with deep-thigh bruises (that's why his upper leg was taped a lot during late-2002 to early 2003). Add the extra weight HHH put on to match Steiner's physique and you have a recipe for disaster. And what's mind-blowing is that Vince and Steph knew both guys were hurt and still booked them in a 25 minute match. And then we got it again one month later. That was all Triple H's doing. This was his phase where he was determined to prove he was the Ric Flair of the 00s and could carry anyone to a great epic match, even though he himself was bloated and injured and putting in the worst performances of his career. He thought Steiner was a broomstick he could carry. He was dead wrong.

I thought Steiner went down easier than that man!! That makes it a bit better I suppose..... But your such a HHH guy I can't reason with you.....lol!!! I needed a reminder as well. It's understandable, we're getting old. Can't find a good YouTube version without music... You know how I am with Savage & Hart (my other favorites), I can usually call a spade a spade. But far too often people on here (internet in general) blame things on Triple H without any facts to back it up. It's the low hanging fruit. He's the scapegoat for everything. And they hold on to it as gospel & preach it to everyone. When the truth is none of us know squat. There is even someone in the TE thread acting like Triple H is already ruining TE by picking his favorites. No Booker T picking favorites. No Jericho picking favorites. Not Lita. Not Billy. It's all Triple H's fault. All I ever try to say to people is not to speak in absolutes without facts. That maybe there's more to every scenario than it being Triple H's ego. And that if he was the egomaniac many say he is, he'd be booked like Cena & Hogan. He wouldn't need to cheat and he certainly wouldn't need friends.

That would of been awesome Based on the story line at the time and the fact that both Orton and Batista were off of TV with injuries, we have Booker T going on to face HHH with Flair in his corner for the World title at WM 19 as planned. the weeks leading in to the ppv Big poppa pump comes out to even the odds and save booker from a 2 on 1 beat down from haitch and naitch. At WM19 Steiner comes out in booker's corner, then have him turn HEEL and cost booker the match and beat the sh*t of him after the match. This would play off their WcW feud and Steiner hating Booker for overshadowing him in both companies. Also this way booker does not job straight out to hhh like he did and we have a new feud in Booker/Steiner for post WM season ending the feud at summerslam 03. maybe have Rick Steiner and Stevie Ray getting involved to support their bros.

He looked really strong against Triple H at the rumble and No Way Out, why not give him the undertaker. Surely would have been better than what we got
