So a bit ago I posted about one obnoxious household pest, old cimex lectularius, the bed bug. Now we introduce another legend, everyone's favorite fungus...MOLD. Of course, there are 1.5 million species of mold in the world, but looking to specifically speak of mold seen in homes (walls, etc.). The most common indoor molds are Cladosporium, Penicillium, Aspergillus, and Alternaria. I had a relative selling a home who had a small mold problem, luckily it was taken care of; it did, however, make me conscious of mold and now I've noticed while in some locations in other homes - due to seeing it on the wall, smelling the odor, etc. - just how much of a wicked fungus it is. My wife and I used to rent a fully furnished basement from a friend. It was actually really nice- two bedroom, one bath, kitchen, dining area, and sizeable living room. Problem was, it was still a basement. We fought mold in a couple of the closets. No matter how clean or dry we tried to keep it there would always be mold growing. We'd bleach the hell out of it but it always came back. We lived on loratidine for that year and a half.

I'm having a mold problem in my bathroom. It gets so steamy and hot in there every day and the mold is back within a week of scrubbing it away. Is it on the walls or ceiling? Sounds like you need a good exhaust fan in there. |
