Amazing that it's been eight years. At this time, I'm old enough to have been finished with college for over two years (though I'm still in college), close to finishing and teaching high school history. At that time, I wasn't even finished being a student of high school history. 2007, Bush was President, the country was different, technology was different - the world was different. Eight years since one of the most shocking events in the history of professional wrestling, and I'd dare say entertainment as a whole.

It sure was shocking when Kevin Sullivan killed Chris, Nancy and Daniel.

When I read what happened, I stopped watching wrestling and for a long time I didnt even want to check raw or smackdown, you have to understand, the guy was an idol for me and he was the reason I wanted to be a wrestler. Watching Benoit matches was a big part of me growing up, the whole thing was such a tragedy. It really leaves me speechless.

The fact that I wasn't that affected by the whole event makes me feel like a bad person. I was only 12 years old at the time, but understood what had happened. Still, my frame of mind then is the same now. I can still watch Chris Benoit matches just fine without thinking "murderer," but I'm not one of those who tries to separate the human being from the professional wrestler. The person that we watched then, and sometimes still do, is the same person who threw away every single bit of worth that he had in his final days.

This was so shocking. I remember that day very well. No details had come out yet about what had happened, but you kinda knew.

He was my favorite wrestler as a kid. And honestly, that day a little bit of me died that took a long time to come back.

He was one of my favorites before this happened. I was really looking forward to him vs. Punk then.

Wow yeah I was looking back at the 2007 Chris Benoit thread a few days ago actually. Here's the link below if anyone wants to take a stroll and observe the initial reactions from different users. And I'm pretty certain there was like another 90pg thread covering it before the one in the link below. But I/we remember hoping it was just some sick storyline that Vince probably had something to do with. Chris Benoit Passes Away

He was one of my favorites when I was younger. Met him a few days before he won the Royal Rumble and he was such an awesome guy. With that being said I recently went back to watch the WM I went to starting with 22 and so on.... I still can't watch any of his matches. It really brings back so many bad feelings. It was such a strange, uncomfortable few weeks. Eddie wasn't innocent but what Benoit did is still just unforgivable.

The fact that in court people who killed with a mental-disorder are often proven not guilty, yet this guy, who killed with a mental disorder, and it's proven, will always be known as a 'murderer'
One of my all time favorites, possibly my favorite legend of all time. You don't see many people that good in the ring, R.I.P

He was my favorite wrestler as a kid. And honestly, that day a little bit of me died that took a long time to come back. I'm with ya on that one. I always said a bit of my love for wrestling died that Monday when I heard what happened. I used to love the 2004 year for WWE too, with Benoit having the World Title reign, and now I can't really go back and watch it cause it just doesn't seem as magical now. To make it all worse too, even if Chris Benoit didn't kill his family, and it was someone who came in and murdered all three of them, the simple fact is that we will never know that and Chris Benoit's name will always be tarnished because of that weekend.

I remember the massive thread here when it first happened. It went from an Eddie Guerrero type response then the details came out and nobody believed it. 2007 as a whole was a tragedy for wrestling.

He was a fantastic wrestler no doubt, one of my favourites to watch. He turned out to be a terrible human being though and that counts for more.

This'll last...
Anyway, I can still watch his matches with no problem. To me, the whole 'Chris Benoit the wrestler and Chris Benoit the person' mindset doesn't work. The wrestler is also the murderer, no matter how you put it. I wasn't affected by his death, just more of a 'holy shit' reaction.

I might get hate for this, but I don't care.
Chris Benoit: The Wrestler is the greatest technical wizard of all time, and one that I look back on with fond memories of the classics he put on with the likes of Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle, and many more. As somebody who is training to be a wrestler, I strive to pattern my in-ring work after his.
Chris Benoit: The Man is a different story. You cannot ignore the fact that he did do what he did and that his son was never able to grow up and his wife was never able to see it. It was truly a despicable act that changed the face of profession wrestling.
So.. yeah. I see the wrestler and the man as two different people, if that makes sense.
Also, if you truly believe Kevin Sullivan did it, you are, quite simply, stupid.
