Had a little spare time today, thought I'd dust off the Sting collection, as I prepared to add the 1st new Sting figure I've had in quite a while, the Mattel Defining Moments Sting!
My DM Sting arrived from Ringside Collectibles on Thursday! Thanks a lot, Ringside!
More new photos of the DM Sting at the end.... but, to be a little different, I thought I'd take a walk down memory lane. I have a rather large collection of Sting figures - this pictorial is not my complete collection, but some of the "Defining" ones that I pulled off my shelf today & took a closer look at.....
Galoob Figures
I always liked these, they looked more realistic than the Hasbro WWF line, but they are not poseable.... more like little statues. As a kid, I didn't like the fact that they had no articulation & weren't very playable - however, as an adult - I appreciate their display-ability.....
San Francisco Toy Makers
These always reminded me of the LJN WWF ones.... kind of cool that they are so similar. Again, no articulation.... and a little more "cartoony" than the Galoob figures, but fun in their own right.....
I noticed today how long this guy's arms are!
San Francisco Toy Makers also made some that DID have some ability to pose... I did not like these figures, they don't look realistic, and really weren't very fun to play with. Being somewhat of a Sting completist, I do have them in my collection, though....
Marvel
Ahh, the Marvel figures really were nice to look at, and they were great to play with too! These figures are highly under rated in figure-history..... really nice work here.
I believe this figure is from the famous "Evolution of Sting" set - I have that set, still in the box... I picked this up loose from a dealer for a couple bucks. Awesome figure.... I believe some of the Toy Biz figs are mixed in here, too.... they're pretty similar....
ToyBiz
I have a bunch of these in the packages.... I loved those Kay Bee Toy sales!
I was always impressed that I found this one with no makeup.... is it an error, or was this mass produced?
I also just noticed that this packaging includes the same promotional photo that the current DM uses! That's pretty cool...
JAKKS Legends Figures
What a great line JAKKS was! I was always disappointed that Sting never made it into the "Classic Superstars" line, but JAKKS tried to make good on that a few years later and released two awesome Sting figures..... the one with blue tights did shelf-warm for a long time. The red white & blue exclusive is one of my favorite figures!
The TNA Years....
Say what you will about TNA, but they gave us some great Sting figures over the few years they had a productive relationship with JAKKS..... some of these figures are amazing!
Toybiz also had the TNA line for a short time....
The JAKKS TNA stuff was great, too!
Also, I found this Racing Champions car a year or two ago at a flea market.... pretty cool!
Finally, in 2015, we are adding a NEW Sting to our collections! Perhaps the Defining Moments Sting is the greatest Sting figure yet!
Happy 4th of July, everyone! Thanks for looking!
