Yes I saw it live. The bumps he took were crazy. I remember after the table spot we knew he was legit hurt. Then when he came back we weren't sure if it was a work or shoot, and at the time I thought the second bump was an accident. I didn't think the cell was meant to break. It was the craziest thing I'd ever seen in wrestling, and probably still is

I was watching with my friends live, and we all assumed the throw off the top legit ended the match, and truly wondered if it wasn't planned - we simply couldn't imagine at the time a spot where someone was WILLING to be thrown off the top and onto the tables below! when he got off the stretcher and ewararted the match, we knew it was a work. we honestly figured the section of the cage falling through was a work as well.

I know Foley has said that him going through the top of the cage wasn't planned, but I have never seen any other HIAC match where the wrestlers on top were going through the cage just walking on it. And when you see Foley go through you see the white zip tags break off too and land that was holding that piece of the cell together. Both falls were planned, and both got a huge reaction to everyone watching it live, and anyone who has ever seen it for the first time as well!

I thought he was dead. And after the second fall (through the cage) I thought they were going too far. I love high spots as much as the next guy, but that may have been a tad too much.

Being eight at the time, I just remember being in awe. My brother left at the start of the match to go make a sandwich or something because he didn't expect anything crazy to happen that early into the match.

I was about 8 years old at the time. I didn't really understand the magnitude of what was going on. But man, looking back I do remember being blown away.
That was the first glimpse I saw as a kid (huge WCW guy) seeing Foley in that light. My view of him was changed for ever.

Yep, totally thought he was dead on the second fall. The first fall was ridiculous and I popped hard for it in a "you just got knocked the out" kind of way. The second fall to me I thought was totally real. I was 14 I think? I was watching every single WWF and WCW PPV live by that time. To be honest, I think I was more worried about Austin losing the title after the show was over though. Like my friends and I all had that car wreck reaction to Foley but we were talking about the first blood controversy the next day at school.

LOL! now you guys made me have to watch it today! forgot the crapiness of Al Snow losing a tag match when they put a bottle of Head & Shoulders on Head, therefore allowing it's "shoulders" to be pinned.

Man that match is still one of the craziest things I've ever seen. JR is on top form too.

That feeling will probably never be duplicated The Undertaker vs. Mankind at the 1998 King of the Ring is one of those matches you had to witness it live to fully appreciate it. This match was just too ****ing much and hard to watch. The spots in the match was cringeworthy, Mick Foley's body was never the same, and The Undertaker worked hurt for months following this event. Looking back, their Hell In A Cell match hasn't aged all too well as was the rest of this PPV. Keep in mind, I loved 1998 so much as it was happening but now, I don't look at it too fondly. Two things that came out of this match was Jim Ross' commentary and Terry Funk literally being knocked out of sneakers.

I was there, Section A, Row F hard camera side. One of my favorite wrestling memories. My dad and I still talk about it and how cool it was to be there to see it.

The second fall was planned, but the way it happened was not. Originally Foley said that he was going to get choke slammed and the roof would give a little almost setting up like a little ramp that Foley would roll down and then hit the mat. But the fence broke completely and he went down full force which was not supposed to happen. That's why the zip ties were there. But if you watch that fall, and compare it to the roof breaking in the Triple H/Foley cell match, you'll see that the whole section opened in the HHH match where, just the fencing ripped in the Undertaker match.

Some can say that Mankind brought out the vulnerable side out for the Undertaker. The chemistry the two had immense amounts of chemistry. The magic those two had is something we don't see today. The inclusion of the Hell In A Cell really was the best vehicle to blow-off their feud. I wished the WWE took notes and used the Hell In A Cell to blow-off major feuds. I can't remember the last time the Cell was used to blow-off a feud. That is a discussion for another thread.

I can't remember the last time the Cell was used to blow-off a feud. That is a discussion for another thread. WWE tried (key word there) to get both Cell matches from 2014's PPV over as blow-offs. Here we are, however, nine months later, and Ambrose/Rollins has only been budding since and Cena/Orton was a "meh" way to end a feud. One could argue the HHH/Undertaker match from WM 28 was an adequate blow-off, otherwise it has to be Undertaker/Edge from Summerslam 2008. And this HiAC was brutal. It's hard to watch but in the moment I'm sure it was the craziest thing people saw live.

I definitely remember watching this at a friends house. One of my friends missed the table spot because he went to answer the door for the pizza delivery guy.
