So... What if her son is an actual racist? Should she disown him? Is she a racist by proxy? I heard my white uncle say the N word last week. Does that make me a racist? Mainstream media has erased the line that separates racism from normal human beings with a sense of humor. Not saying she isn't racist, because she just might be, but her family dressing up as tv characters isn't the deciding factor in that. I think you have missed the point of the issue and everyone had missed the point of me posting this. First off, Paula Deen (and I believe her sons too) have had very public racial issues that nearly ruined her career. With that in mind, and considering how much the internet loves to be outraged, this was just a terrible idea. I don't find this offensive but I do think it was a very stupid thing to do given the historical context.

She will probably be dead in the next five years. So let her be an old out of touch hag.

I agree with Twist, I don't see a problem. Let us not forget, this was a movie. And let us too not forget, that you won't ever see white guys make a movie called Black Chicks. The closest we'll get is C. Thomas Howel in "Soul Man." Her son really isn't in brown face, but just has brown make up on his face. There's a difference where black face was done to mock slaves on a plantation vs. having make up on to match skin tone. Did you just say you think I Love Lucy was a movie?

My original post had a link to the cover to the movie White Chicks.

At least it wasn't Deen doing a cover of Miley Cyrus...but even then, that's not saying much...

I don't think it's stupid for Paula Deen to pay homage to a show she loves that celebrates interracial marriage. This is a free country and she has a right to do and say what she wants. What I think is stupid is for race baiters to take what she did out of context in a vain attempt to sow the seeds of outrage in this country. Just because a white, ex-employee of Deen's attempted to sue her for racial discrimination and lost doesn't mean Dean is a racist. Being a fan of a socially inclusive television program certainly doesn't reinforce that false narrative. Trust me, people get it, they just don't agree.

No but hiring an all black staff for a party and making them dress up as Aunt Jemima does.

No but hiring an all black staff for a party and making them dress up as Aunt Jemima does. By that logic, the producers of Roots were racist. Paula Deen wanted to have a southern living dream wedding. Just because there are some who are intolerant of her lifestyle doesn't make her a racist. It just means that those who criticize her are narrow minded. Or maybe they just wanted to tear her down and perpetuate the false narrative that racism is prevelant in the U.S. and in particular the south. Either way, they're the stupid ones in my opinion. I think, as a society, we should be celebrating how progressive we are here in the U.S. We're like the least racist, most inclusive, biggest equal rights country in the world. We should be proud of that. That's my opinion.

Is that really racist? Really? I've "blacked up" for a costume party once I didn't think it was racist I just thought it was attention to detail as I was going as an Egyptian...

Don't you know? Only white people can be racist and they're all privileged and evil! Things like this is why I killed my Facebook. Never felt better. I get this constantly on facebook. Because i commented on a company spending millions of dollars on useless crap instead of helping homeless people somebody told me i had it easy because im white. I know more black people who have less problems than i do. Why does it always have to be about race? According to that man because im white i shouldnt have any problems with money or life for that matter.
