on the macho man
you will never see anything like this again
yes you could say the undertakers streak ending but to me hogan dropping the legdrop on macho man was the single biggest moment in wrestling
even people who couldnt stand hogan and his good guy gimmick where shocked when it happened

This video made me realize something. If a Hogan heel turn could work, then a John Cena heel turn could work as well. Now I'm not one of those people that's like: "John Cena sux lol" or the ones that think it's cool to boo him, but I could definitely see Cena turning heel, just like Hogan did.

John Cena is a house hold name not on the level that hogan was or macho man or flair Cena is most likely a bigger *name* then Savage ever was. Hes is EASILY on par with Hogan and might even surpass Flair at this point....EVERYONE under the age of 50 knows who Cena is or at least has seen him before.

John Cena is a house hold name not on the level that hogan was or macho man or flair No. He's a much bigger name than Macho. I'd bet 9 out of 10 people walking down the street know of/who john Cena is

I say Cena and Savage are on equal par of being popular.
The world almost shut down back in 2011 when the announcement came on that Randy Savage had passed away. I never seen so many news stations carry that story with a 'breaking news' and cutting in to regular TV programming to say that Randy Savage has passed away.

unfortunately it's true. wrestling fans, and some casual wrestling fans will know who Savage was, but a lot of newer fans, the general public, and kids today would definitely know Cena before they'd know Macho Man.

Hey now.....i'm not saying it's right. Probably accurate though. Cena's fame now vs Savage's then ... I'm not sure, that group of wrestlers who were on SNME on NBC were massively famous. Would have to compare how many more people were watching tv back then vs now etc. Savage would be just as much from Slim Jim commercials I would think. Hogan is the real comparison in terms of fame and I would think Hogan still probably beats Cena and anyone else by quite a bit. A Cena heel turn wouldn't be the same, all the storylines are so fast and forgettable. Plus he's been a heel to half the audience already from the start of his push. Who knows how it would go, maybe the kids would still cheer him, older males would start and he'd be a full blown face for the first time instead. lol Different era with kayfabe destroyed too. Kayfabe is a little tricky to talk about because it can come back with a really good feud or match. Or Brock Lesnar.

Tbh I never saw anything on the news concerning Savage's death. The last time I remember a wrestler being on the news was the Benoit debacle and when Nancy Grace spun her idiocy over Warrior's passing.

If I went to my friends and said "Ric Flair" most of them would have no idea. If I said "John Cena" they would know.
Most my friends aren't fans.

Macho is/was a household name every bit as Cena. Not many have transcended wrestling but Macho is one.

One of THEE worst quotes from an announcer of all time (probably the corniest in fact) by Tony Schiavone:
"I never thought I'd say he was yellow, but he may be wearing red, but he's wearing red AND yellow!"
Also, it was grammatically horrendous in addition to being generally corny. What a gaffe from that goof!
