So, 2K announced yesterday that Mafia 3 is coming next year, with the official reveal being next week, August 5th at Gamescon, with a trailer. Myself, I am super excited for this! I absolutely loved the first game, still one of my favourite games of all time. The second game was great, though I only ever played through it once. I didn't expect we'd ever see a third game. I expected that once the second game was over that would be it. So this is a big surprise for me, but one that I am very happy with nonetheless. I've seen speculation that the game looks as though it'll take place in the 70s. I hope it takes place in the 60s myself. I don't know why, but it just feels right to me, rather than jumping to the 70s. However the fact that it's made by a different developer fills me with dread. It seems that whenever different developers take over a game series, they lose what the series is about in an attempt to be different, unfortunately putting their own spin on it usually means it's an entirely different game, with just the series name slapped on it. I hope 2K ensures that the series doesnt stray too far from it's roots. Now it's time for me to go play through the first and second games.

Finally. The 2nd game was really overlooked. I thought it was much better than GTA IV and deserved much more praise. Ah well...looking forward to it!

I'm so hyped for this game. Loved the first two, and really think Mafia II was underrated.

Looking forward to it, my only hope is that if they're not going to have side missions then please put in fast travel. I have no problems with a linear game, but man it gets tedious always driving from point A to point B with nothing to do in between.

I'm really excited for it, Mafia 2 was one of my favorite games last gen. The aesthetic of the 40s/50s was beautifully nailed, the game felt like an experience, something that to me, the Grand Theft Auto series hasn't been able to capture. I'm somewhat weary of the time period and setting of the game, are the developers really going in a different direction and completely ignoring the ending of the second game?

It's still possible that Joe is still alive following the ending, considering he had a gun equipped; and is known to be a quite brash 'ballsy' character. I still hold out hope that these characters will be in the new game. Unanswered cliffhangers just don't ever happen in modern gaming anymore.

Mafia II is my favorite game of ALL TIME. however with Mafia III I hope they expand on some things. From what I have heard Mafia III is to be set in New Orleans and focus on 3 characters, no word on the time period but if it is set in New Orleans it would be heartbreaking if we didn't have the chance to free roam around such a beautiful city. As for the story I think it just needs to be longer Mafia II I finished twice in 4 days without even speed running so a longer story and side missions would just help the game a ton.

Judging by the picture, it looks like it will be more of the modern day mafia, when you look at the cars in the pictures. Probably the earliest period would be the 60s, maybe the latest being the 80s. New Orleans would be a very cool city. I just hope that it is more of the open world sandbox, as Mafia 2 leaned more towards a linear story, than free roam, like GTA can be.

Really hoping it's at earliest 1960s and at latest the 1980's because the Mob started losing its strength in the 90's. But freeroam would be nice because if you wanted to really explore in Mafia II you had to get one of the arcade style DLCs or mod the game, and that was only if you were on PC.

Also a quick update I was able to dig this up on the 2k forums from a casting call for the game also with possible descriptions of the characters but take it with a grain of salt because remember they're just rumors:
[FRANKLIN] - Born in Louisiana, Mixed race - African American/Caucasian, Early 20s, 6', Bouncer's build - broad, not cut. An orphan in the racially segregated South who rises to criminal prominence after returning home to Louisiana from war. Having been an outsider to both white and black society, Franklin is fiercely loyal to those he considers "family." He is both street-smart and strong. Disciplined and imposing, confident yet guarded, Franklin knows how to get a job done at any cost... ACTOR MUST HAVE A LOUISIANA ACCENT
[TONY] - Born in Louisiana, Italian, Early 30s, Thin, Immaculately dressed and groomed. A genius with numbers and statistics who runs sports betting operations in Louisiana. Tony is not your typical gangster. Meticulous and organized, Tony is more concerned about numbers and profit than people. On the surface, Tony appears quiet and socially awkward, but in reality he is more than capable of inflicting violence on anyone who disrupts his bottom line. Tony doesn't fear people; he simply does not understand or like them. ACTOR MUST HAVE ITALIAN ACCENT / SHOULD BE LIGHT WITH SOUTHERN CHARACTER
[Mickey] - Born in Louisiana, Italian, Late Teens/Early 20s, Average build. A young street hustler who likes to run his mouth, Mickey likes to talk big on the streets, but when push comes to shove, he can't back it up. Mickey has a bad habit of taking credit for bigger jobs and making himself seem higher up in the criminal ladder than he really is. When confronted with this, he reverts back to the scared teenager he really is. ACTOR MUST HAVE ITALIAN ACCENT / SHOULD BE LIGHT WITH SOUTHERN CHARACTER

Has that been announced yet?

I honestly hope it isn't. I feel like you cant properly capture the aesthic of the era, by making the game take place in an outlier climate; maybe that's just me.

Has that been announced yet? Nothing officially but based on this and in the picture there are 3 mobster looking guys standing near a swamp with a gator coming out of it, I just gonna say most likely its gonna be set in NOLA with these characters being the main protagonists.

Yeah, hopefully they bring Free Ride mode back for Mafia 3. A shame it didn't exist in Mafia 2.

I loved Mafia II. It feels like it's been ages since the first one came out.

Oh man I can't wait for this!
Mafia is one of my all time favourite classic games!
Mafia II was great too, but was also highly disappointing with the potential it had.
