I loved Mafia II. It feels like it's been ages since the first one came out. It generally takes a long time for the developers of the Mafia game series to get games developed, it took roughly 7 years to get Mafia II developed after the original Mafia. And while it takes a long time the quality is always amazing.

I mean look at Assassin's Creed which the first few were amazing, IMO anyway, but then they started pumping them out yearly and we ended up with the hot mess of Unity. But I'm really excited about Mafia III. I didn't really care for the first one but II was awesome so I have high expectations.

I played the first one a little bit never finished it though, Finished the 2nd one in 4 days and absolutely loved it as I said in a earlier post it became my favorite game of all time. So I have been following the hype train for Mafia III ever since I finished Mafia II and when 2k sacked almost all of the developers of Mafia I&II I thought all hope was lost but sure enough 5 years after they announced development here comes the third installment of Mafia... please don't suck lol.

Mafia 3 looks really intriguing. From what I've seen, it looks to be a complete open world. The gameplay looks phenemonal, the animations and physics look really fluid. Vito is in the game as well, just not as a playable character, but as an allied mob boss. While I still do not care for the setting, I can't wait to play it.

Mafia III has peaked my interest, from what I read about the Demo it seems like while Lincoln Clay is destroying the Italian Mob in NOLA he is also building his own. As in the demo it says when you take over a Club/Drug Den you choose a lieutenant to run the place for you, the options being Cassandra a woman who runs/is in the Haitian "mob", Burke a man who has men in the Irish mob, and Vito Scaletta(Yay!) A gangster who is most likely a Associate/Soldier in the Italian New Orleans faction of the mob who is still hungry for the power he always wanted. And depending on which lieutenant you give it too you will get a different perk. For instance if you give the place to Cassandra she will give you the ability to call in drive by backup for a limited time, no word on what the other perks are yet. But also be weary because there also seems to be a anger that can be built up in lieutenants, a example would be say you gave every single place you took over to Vito because he's your favorite. Well this will build anger in Cassandra and Burke and over time might possibly cause them to turn on you and even attempt to take you out. This seems to be alot like a Telltale games mechanic where all of you actions cause repercussions. There also appears to be a new fear mechanic for example when Lincoln is trying to get info from a drug dealer in a car swerving/crazy driving will cause a meter to rise most likely until the guy cracks under pressure. I also found some screenshots from the Mafia Wikia what I will upload later. And if you actually read all this... Thanks!

Here's a link to a group of pictures from the demo since I couldn't get them to post here directly: mafiagame.wikia.com/wiki/Mafia_III?file=Mafia_III.jpgIf you don't feel like going through them yourself I wrote a description on most of the important/interesting things we can see in the screenshots. Some interesting updates include, in the first screenshot Lincoln appears just to be walking around. I think this confirms that the game will be play at your own pace free roam. In the second screenshot in the bottom left hand corner there appears a HUD which seems to contain weapons, the amount of money you have, the number of grenades you have, a possible health pack symbol and some other symbols I don't understand. There also is a grenade launcher in the HUD seemingly confirming we get to use grenade launchers in the game. In the third screenshot in the middle of the screen appears a red flash which reads "Uncle Lou responds to loss of criminal operation." Which makes it seem like once you take over a rival business it doesn't mean its safe and the Mob will take retribution which is a cool aspect. In screenshot 4 we see Lincoln attack a assumed rival gangster with a knife which probably means a knife will be a actual weapon that can be used instead of just a glorified punch for enemies like in Mafia II. Screenshot 5 there are cross-hairs which makes it look like shooting from cars is back in Mafia III. Also in the top left corner we see the mission name "Operation Pale Horse" which unless cut will be a mission in the game. In screenshots 6/7 we can see Lincoln in a gun fight at a graveyard/church nothing really special here that I can see but still some cool pics from the demo.

I never really cared much for the other Mafia games, but this one sounds like there's just the right kind of elements in it to make me pay attention.

Well, that reveal trailer was awesome, as were the short gameplay clips. Usually I hate change, and I especially hate it when a game series abandons everything it is and should be in favour of something new entirely (Max Payne 3 is a prime example). But y'know, I'm actually quite optimistic about Mafia 3, despite the revelation that we're actually fighting against the Mafia, rather than being part of the Mafia. The few snippets of gameplay we've had thus far look very exciting. I am really looking forward to Mafia 3. Instant pre-order.
Since the announcement of Mafia 3, I've gone back and replayed Mafia 1 & 2. And I have to say, although Mafia 2 was undoubtedly a great game, I find Mafia 1 to just be far superior. Of course what with Mafia 1 being the game I grew up playing, as well as it being my 2nd favourite game of all time, I am biased, but I truly enjoyed playing through Mafia 1 for the 1,000th time more than I enjoyed playing through Mafia 2 for the second time. If they were to do a HD remake of Mafia 1, that would make my decade. It really would.

Yeah change is very tough, especially for video games that have core mechanics that are more or less the same like the Mafia franchise. I played the first Mafia twice, never finished it the first time I was just way too young. I wanna say like maybe 9/10 years old and all I wanted to do was shoot people lol. The second time was a few months ago and I just couldn't beat the level where you steal the race car or whatever. Mafia II as I previously said is my favorite game of all time for a few reasons, I LOVED the story even though it was way to short, It was very accurate as opposed to the original Mafia (not saying Mafia was highly inaccurate Mafia II was just more accurate) and as a guy who is a "Fan" of the mob I appreciated that they developers did their research. However I would take another crack at Mafia I if they were to do a HD remake for PS4/Xbox One.

However I would take another crack at Mafia I if they were to do a HD remake for PS4/Xbox One. Ah yes, the race car level is definitely one of my least favourite levels of the game. However it is only one of the very first few missions, and it gets a lot, lot better from there. I don't know how much you remember from your first playthrough, but I'd encourage you to pick it up and give it another go. Apart from the race level, I can't think of a single level that I did not thoroughly enjoy. Of course if you're unwillingly to give it another go, that's cool and I respect that. Mafia 1 is definitely outdated in terms of graphics, and perhaps it may be outdated (but still very enjoyably playable) in terms of game mechanics (i.e. lack of a cover system). If they were to do a HD remake, I'd imagine that at the most they would just remake all the textures and game models, but leave the mechanics the same. I'd assume that redesigning the game mechanics as well would be too much work going into a remake. Although speaking of accuracy, there was one thing that slightly confused me on my recent playthroughs of Mafia 1 & 2. In Mafia 1, Tommy tells Detective Norman that all gangsters stay away from drugs, and not a single gangster goes near them. However in Mafia 2, although one of the dons tells Vito and Joe to stay away from drugs, it's later revealed that pretty much all of the dons are secretly dealing drugs (unless I misunderstood). So now I'm wondering whether it was that the writing team on Mafia 1 got that part wrong, or that Tommy just didn't know of the secret activities of others, or that gangster's attitudes to drugs changed during the time periods of Mafia 1 & 2.

In real life the "no drugs rule" varies from family to family depending on what kind of Don if he's more old school (Salieri, Vinchi) he's probably gonna say no. If he is a more progressive Don (Clemente, Falcone) He most likely won't care as much. So that is actually still kinda accurate because in Lost Heaven Salieri's rule could be no drugs, while in Empire Bay Clemente could have no rule about it. In real life the mob liked to stay away from drugs but when it became a cash cow in the late 60's and 70's some rethought it.
