I know WWE & Mattel can not make replica WCW belts for figs but could they make semi generic "wrestling championship" belts? They have the legal resources they could create designs that could be close but not infringe on the actual copyrighted designs.
We could get tag, us and tv belts that might be close enough to satisfy WCW collections... Or am I just hoping out of my ass?

I think the best bet is work with what were given. The wwe cruiserweight is close enough. The Hogan DM is close to the TV title.
The US and tag titles are an issue because nothing else looks like them.

I think even if it was not the WCW belts, but something very similar it would be an issue.

Mattel's not going to waste resources and man power making belts that are "close, but not the same" as WCW belts. It would open them up for lawsuit. It doesn't matter if they're not the same thing, the people who own the rights over the belts could still file a lawsuit against Mattel for doing that, regardless of whether or not they'd win. I'm sure Bill doesn't want to get in hot water with his bosses over something that could be seen as a legal liability.

They are running out of new belts to produce, and they have the license for several more years, so I would hope they can make WCW belts.
I wouldnt hold my breath. Soon the belts will be made of paper the way Mattel is skimping out on accessories as of late!

Bill has said there are issues making the WCW belts, but I do wonder what it is.
The same people who own the copyrights to the classis WWF belts own the WCW copyrights. Parks/Midwest made the US, Tag, TV, WCW World, and the NWA belts. NWA is an issue of course.
Mattel has worked with them in the past to make the winged eagle, IC, classic tag, Hogan 86, etc. You would think the compensation would be the same to use a WCW design. I think it is WWE not wanting them made or some other issue I know nothing about which is very possible.

It might be more of a "who can we possibly make that will sell good enough to release all these belts"
Belts look awesome, but it might not be worth it to get the rights to make them.

I understand why Mattel isn’t making WCW Championship Title Belts. I understand why Mattel isn’t making any more ECW Championship Title Belts, aside from the one Mr. McMahon won. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the only Mattel WWE Championship Title Belts that can be made and are left to be made are:
• WWE Championship Title Belt (Andre 87) • WWE Championship Title Belt (Brahma Bull, since we got Zack Ryder’s Internet Championship Title Belt, why not the Rock’s) • WWE Championship Title Belt (Miz’ “M” version, since the Spinner they made doesn’t spin) • WWE Championship Title Belt (new Network Logo version) • Intercontinental Championship Title Belt (Attitude Era / Oval version without the nameplate) • Light Heavyweight Championship Title Belt (Dean Malenko should come with this!!) • Women’s Championship Title Belt (Attitude Era without the nameplate) • WWE World Tag Team Championship Title Belt (dual plated version used before the Attitude Era version) • NXT Championship Title Belt • NXT Tag Team Championship Title Belt (both versions, please!!)
Out of this list, only 2 have been confirmed to be in production, which are the WWE Championship Title Belt (new Network Logo version) and the NXT Championship Title Belt. Will the others be made or is the Big W and the Big X the last “First Time In The Line” Championship Title Belts will ever see??

I think we could get the titles but the wwe logo would be on them or no logo like X pacs European title. They are on the games so I don't see why not.

I'm pretty sure Bill said that someone has the rights for WCW toy belts, making some close to them could trigger a legal issue. I don't think either Mattel or WWE sees acquiring or working with them a priority. Your best bet is to buy custom ones from eBay (I think there's WCW ones).

The US and tag titles are an issue because nothing else looks like them. This is very true. The old school WWF World Title that comes with DM Hogan is very, very similar to the WCW TV Title. The globe in the middle is pretty much exact!
This belt looks good on DDP or Luger (even though its USA Luger).

The belt issue aside, I'm starting wonder if WWE will allow Mattel to make anything with the WCW logo on it?

In all honesty, I don't think Mattel is a company that would take the route to make something look similar to an existing design they cannot legally replicate. For example; they could've taken the Jakks route and added a giant red circle on CM Punk's shoulder to represent his Pepsi tattoo however they completely left it off. It seems if it can't be accurate it won't be made/added. I have no idea how Jakks got away with some things such as the TTL winged eagle/attitude era hybrid belt lol.

I really would like the WCW tag belts. Some of the other ones I could do without.

Why can't they use them though? The WCW Us Title is in WWE 2K15.

WWE owns WCW so why doesn't Mattel have the rights to make the belts? The WCW belts even appear in the WWE video games so this legal issue that Mattel talks about is rubbish.
