My Dr started me on a new psych med. I had not read a book since I was like 20. I tried a lot since then but I could never concentrate enough or just had such incredibly low energy that I couldn't read more than one page and even that I'd have to read a couple times because I wouldn't remember what it said. Since May 1, I've read 7 books. It's incredible.

I was on a little kick with the vegan stuff last year right before i got covid in december and never went back. my taste and smell still isnt the same. Main thing is the texture of the soy products, cant get over it.

Now there is so much variety & availability and things taste way better and more similar to actual meat. It's so much easier now.

Was it health decision as as I assume with your work with animals it might be due to animal rights etc? i dont eat a ton of meat, like i dont eat steak or porkchops. If anything i mostly eat fish and hamburger when it comes to meat.

If anything i mostly eat fish and hamburger when it comes to meat. Not a heath decision. I love animals, I don't want them to die for me. It's weird, I have always really not liked to be reminded that I was eating a dead animal. It always kind of made me sick. Not the actual meat but seeing bones and such. I could never really eat steak that had a bone, or chicken with bones. Always had to be boneless chicken breasts or cutlets, steak that is not with a bone in it, chopped steak and so forth. What put me over the edge and totally converted was when I was living in South Philadelphia and on the way to work there was a slaughterhouse. It was at the stoplight and in the morning you would see calves (yep veal) being loaded off trucks into the place. Coming home they would be throwing heads into a 55 gallon drum. It really messed up my head and after a few times seeing that I couldn't do it anymore. That was it, I no longer at meat or anything containing dead animal since then. I don't preach to anyone or try and talk anyone into it unless they ask about it. People are omnivores. Many vegans and vegetarians will tell you otherwise but it is a fact. It is in our DNA to want to eat meat. I wish it weren't but it is. We don't have to though. And now with all of the vegan & vegetarian options it's easy.

This is the most tempered attitude I think I've ever seen in regard to a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle. IDGAF if someone wants to follow that lifestyle. I've just always thought it was kinda weird the way some people might throw it in your face, in the same way that I've always kinda found any omnivorous dieter's like....preoccupation with the meat that they're eating. Flaunting food is just strange to me in general, regardless of what you're eating. People only ever do it to either get a rise out of someone or to draw attention to themselves. I used to work with this guy who lived in Australia for a period, and he introduced this other kid to vegemite. Other kid took it to the extreme...like if you were ever in the break room with him, MFer was offering you vegemite. Frozen pizza for lunch? "Sure would be good with some vegemite!" Bowl of soup? "Have you thought about mixing from vegemite in there?!" Eventually it even started pissing off the guy who introduced him to it. Remember him ranting on the salesfloor one day, like "I thought he'd be into it, but god damn. You put it on toast. That's it. Toast. I'm sorry, y'all."

Remember him ranting on the salesfloor one day, like "I thought he'd be into it, but god damn. You put it on toast. That's it. Toast. I'm sorry, y'all." That's funny, I actually like Vegemite. I have to be in the "mood" for something salty though. Me being a vegetarian, it reminds me of the taste of bacon as far as I can remember. Not only is it good on toast, you can put it in food to make it taste more "meat like". I have a jar of it, lasts a long time, you only need a little bit, it's so concentrated and dense. I have that same attitude with everything in life really. I don't like it when people try and force their religion and even that I should eat meat and so on. I will not force my views on anyone unless asked. I will not even offer an opinion unless asked. BUT if you do beware because I will tell you my truth, my honest opinion. I think it is wrong to lie to someone. For example if someone says to me "Don't I sing great?!" and they sing horribly, people, especially someone close to them like a family member will humor them and say they sound great even though they know they don't. They don't want to hurt their feelings and I get it. But you can try to tell them kindly that they just don't sing well. It may still hurt their feelings but it would be a disservice to them to lie. So they wind up singing to a bunch of people who laugh at them which hurts that person's feelings 10x worse and it's the fault of the person who lied to them. I always remind my wife and kids that when they ask me an opinion where they may not like the truth or "my truth" that "do you want my really answer?", sometimes they do and sometimes not. I will not do them a disservice like that, I love them too much.

I had a similar situation happen with me while hunting several years ago. I shot a deer and 5 minutes later we were gutting it in the creek near which i shot it. that does something to you when you just saw that animal alive and running and now youre pulling its guts out into the creek with your hands. I grew up in a hunting family and have always gone hunting but something about it that day got me. I wont go hunting again unless its necessary to me and my families survival. Im not against meat, but I agree that the meat industry could be done a totally different way, most of the time its very violent. theres no way that bad energy from how the animal is killed doesnt get transferred into us. probably why so many people are in such bad shape.
