I've never worked on fixing up or customizing a Mattel figure. Any tips? Are elites any different than basics?

No differences between Basics and elites. Only real differences are between length of neck pegs that protrude from the torso/neck hole. If you change a head and it sits too low then push 1-2 cotton stick ends in the head hole and pop back on the body.
To remove the heads I use the water method:
- Boil kettle, poor in cereal bowl. - Dunk figure head first up to shoulders/top of chest so neck joint is properly submerged. - Submerge for 30seconds. - take out by feet, shake off any excess water - Get a tea towel and pull the head off. - If putting a head on then just submerge at the same time for the same time and use a tea towel to push the head on with so you don't burn yourself.

Figures from the same person usually match up. If not you would have to swap parts or paint them which would require expertise of other posters to explain I can swap heads and boots, that's about it for me, anything beyond that and I'm stuck.

Is swapping boots the same method as the head?

My limit is head, arms and boots. All are pretty easy and involve hot water.

Is swapping boots the same method as the head? They arent the same between elites and basics though. Arms from bicep down, hands, heads are the easiest most universal swaps. Most everthing else requires much more effort or torso cracking

The only time I thought about a headswap is Elite 25 Rollins as I didn't like Rollins with short hair but thankfully that was solved by Elite 33 so I didn't bother with a headswap. I'm also interest in how the Mattel figures work with eachother.

I can do heads, arms, hands, and boots
Upper thighs are a challenge but I've done it before
Next step is the dreaded torso swap

Another question, Does the water have to boiling hot when you dump the figure in or does it have to be medium hot? I just do it straight from the kettle after it boils, just be careful.

I use a hairdryer to heat up the parts for 1-2 minutes, then they pop right off the pegs. Nice and simple, and less messy than the water method.
