Customania: Week One Hype
The most anticipated event of the year, Customania, is upon us. This year, organizers are taking a unique approach, a hybrid tournament and PPV. A record 22 customizers will be involved and three titles will be defended in a 15-match extravaganza that will span seven weeks.
Customania TournamentSome of the board's brightest up-and-comers will face off against board veterans in a tournament that will culminate in a match on the main card of Customania -- with a title shot
of their choice at stake. Bartman, 4LK, Customkenny and TCKDeen are all coming off of losses at Hardcore Holiday in title matches. A tournament win for any of these four could mean a rematch of their Hardcore Holiday bout at the next PPV. Newcomers Texacide and Megawarlord are looking to prove that they are deserving of the spots that they've been given, but their opponents are no walk in the park. Megawarlord has been running off his mouth trying to rile up TCKDeen, will it work, or will it backfire? Finally, JPD and JPilko, veterans of the custom board, will be working hard to show the younger guys how it's done. Matches to watch include 4LK vs. Customkenny -- tag team partners facing eachother in round one, and Bartman vs. JPilko, both competitors who could go all the way will knock out one of the toughest competitors. One thing is certain: on February 11th, we will have a new #1 contender for one of the titles.
Newb MatchIn one of the most interesting and unpredictable matches of the competition, agvito, angus, nydream989, tibbs1984 and shooter will be in a proving match. Agvito, nydream989 and tibbs1984 are three newcomers who are hungry for a shot at the big time; since they are new to the board, they'll have to prove themselves before being put on the main show.
Angus is playing for retribution; after failing to turn in a completed custom at Fall Brawl, and subsequently attacking the entire custom board, upper management and competitors alike, he has been demoted to the Newb match. A strong showing is a necessity if he wants to continue to be booked on the PPV circuit. Shooter, better known to some as jpecard, is making his return to competition in this match. After months and months without posting as much as a fixup, Shooter has emerged to climb his way back into contention, starting at the bottom. This five-way match will coincide with the first round of the tournament. Two winners will emerge, earning their shot in the spotlight: a match on the main card of Customania -- any newb's dream come true.
WCW Challenge: Bartman vs. wwe4everBartman and wwe4ever both expressed disappointment in their Hardcore Holiday performances. Though Bartman's Duke "the Dumpster" Droese made everyone chuckle with the included trashbags, ultimately it was too simple to earn the Intercontinental gold. While wwe4ever's Homicide
did win tag team gold for him and his partner, TCKDeen, it was criticized by the judges for inaccuracies. Each competitor is taking Customania very seriously as a chance to redeem themselves. Bartman wants another shot at the IC title, and winning this match will put him in great shape, but Bartman is also trying a more proactive approach, entering into the tournament after
already completing his custom for this match. Wwe4ever will be looking to make a strong impression on the competitors in the tournament who may be looking for weaknesses in the title-holders as the winner makes his choice of title shots.
Cruiserweight Title: Titantrap (C) vs. RazorAfter a closely contested match at Hardcore Holiday, Titantrap escaped with his title, only to defend it immediately at the following PPV. After the closest voting tally of the card, Titantrap has already gotten a taste of the nerves associated with defending a title. Challenger Razor earned the shot after winning his match at Hardcore Holiday, by a wider margin than Titantrap. Despite the decisive victory, Razor's Kidman custom did not impress all judges; he will have to step up his game for Customania if he intends to take the title home on February 11.
Intercontinental Title: Gatecitysinner (C) vs. ImportracerGatecitysinner won a unanimous decision over Bartman to win the Intercontinental title at Hardcore Holiday with what many are calling the best custom of his career, Shark. He will be facing some stiff competition at Customania, challenged by veteran of the board, Importracer. Though initially intimidated by Import's experience, Gatecitysinner has reportedly been telling close friends that he plans on, "crushing Import and using his bones to make my bread." Once again, the stipulation in the match is the (ever popular) Wrestlecrap. The stipulation turned out well for Gate last time, and Import's versatility will make this a match to watch. However, if Gate once again comes away with a win, people might start asking questions about whether he should be allowed to do Wrestlecrap.
Heavyweight Special Challenge: Beyondo vs. Chinese-ChickenIn this match, Beyondo is coming off of an impressive victory over champion FamousJ in a controversial tag match -- FamousJ and Rome's tag team was delayed due to the USPS, making FamousJ rush a new entry, and making everyone question whether Beyondo has family in the postal service. Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Beyondo's Harlem Heat customs were the buzz of the board, garnering heavy praise from judges and non-judges alike. While some may say Beyondo earned a title shot by beating the champ, the title shot belongs to Goreinator. Beyondo didn't want to sit on his haunches waiting for the next PPV, so he stepped up for a match against whatever competitor we could book. After days of negotiation, we are proud to announce Chinese-Chicken will be making a one-night-only appearance for this match. Chinese-Chicken is a "legend" on the boards, impressing everyone with his most recent Yokozuna and Rowdy Roddy Piper customs that feature sculpted everything and intricate washes and painting techniques. All eyes will be on Beyondo to see what he will come up with; competition brings out the best in us all, after all.
World Heavyweight Title: FamousJ (C) vs. GoreinatorGoreinator earned a title shot at Fall Brawl, but his chance was delayed when the champ was booked in a tag match at Hardcore Holiday. Not one to sit idly by, he risked his title shot in a match against up-and-comer Rozz. As the due date grew close, ROZZ contacted management to inform them that his custom would not be completed, as a major part had broken without time to fix it. Goreinator turned in his custom, an incredibly detailed and accurate Amazing Kong, without competition to face. Nonetheless, judges hailed the figure as "arguably the best custom he’s made," and "The figure of your career." In his shot at gold, one can only imagine the lengths he will go to win the title. FamousJ has long been a board favorite, but a personal life that is about to gain another member will limit his availability for future competitions. He would love nothing more than to take his title with him if he goes on a sabbatical, and will settle for nothing less than being champ if he is to continue on a regular basis. After a disappointing loss that had more to due with unfortunate circumstances than talent, FamousJ will be looking to reassure everyone that he hasn't lost a single step.
