WWE SUMMERSLAM 23rd August 2015
- WWE Summerslam kicks off live from the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York City by heading straight to the ring where the special guest host of WWE Summerslam, former Daily Show host Jon Stewart, stands with microphone in hand. He welcomes us to the show and begins hyping up the incredible matches we’re going to see tonight, from Kevin Owens vs. Cesaro, to The Undertaker taking on the beast Brock Lesnar all the way up to the winner takes all match between John Cena and “that whining little weasel” Seth Rollins. Jon Stewart goes into classic Daily Show mode and begins to mock Rollins incessantly, tearing into his inability to win a match without help and his “daddy issues” with Triple H. Stewart keeps going until the inevitable happens and the WWE World Heavyweight Champion decides to make his presence known, hitting the ring in street gear.
Rollins makes it clear that Jon Stewart was only asked to host tonight out of sympathy, because now that he’s not the host of the Daily Show he’ll soon be forgotten, the past doesn’t matter when the present is so much better. The same can be said about John Cena of course, with Rollins making it clear that he is the present and the future and that John Cena’s time isn’t now anymore, John Cena’s time is over. Jon Stewart attempts to stand up to Rollins but Seth isn’t playing his games tonight, grabbing Stewart by the collar. Before he can do anything the music of the Hardcore Legend Mick Foley hits and the icon himself makes his way down to the ring to a thunderous ovation from the New York faithful. Foley berates Rollins, telling him that a real champion doesn’t need to defend himself with words; he lets his actions do the talking for him.
Foley says that that is exactly why Seth Rollins isn’t a real champion and why John Cena is going to take the WWE World Heavyweight Championship right here tonight in Brooklyn, New York (cheap pop)! Rollins says the only thing Cena is getting is another broken nose and no United States Championship. Rollins shockingly delivers a boot straight to Foley’s groin, dropping him to his knees, before pulling him in and delivering the Pedigree right in front of Jon Stewart and the WWE Universe! The crowd boo loudly as Rollins makes his exit, Jon Stewart checking on Mick Foley as the Summerslam opening video begins to air.
WWE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH The Prime Time Players [c] vs. The New Day (w/ Xavier Woods) vs. The Lucha Dragons vs. Los Matadores (w/ El Torito) A fast paced opener to kick off the biggest Summerslam in history with three teams gunning for the Prime Time Players tag team titles. This was a great way to open the show as the pace and varied offence of the four teams made for a very diverse showing. Although all four teams got their moments to shine it was The New Day that really left an impression thanks to their antics, particularly Xavier Woods distracting Los Matadores at one point by throwing a large red sheet over El Torito and then throwing the pint-sized bull into the crowd. The ending stretch was exactly what you’d expect with all eight men hitting their spots. Titus took out both members of the Lucha Dragons and Diego with a triple suplex spot off of the top rope before Big E took both Titus and himself out of the ring with a huge spear through the ropes. Darren Young would put Fernando down with the Gut Check and then knock Xavier Woods off of the apron only to turn face first into the Trouble in Paradise, Kofi Kingston grabbing the pinfall, the victory and the WWE Tag Team Championships for The New Day. The New Day Win the WWE Tag Team Championships! (11:42) ***
- As the bell rings Kofi Kingston is swiftly joined by Big E and Xavier Woods, the New Day beginning to dance in the ring with the WWE Tag Team Championships, having captured those belts for the second time here tonight at Summerslam! A big way to start the show and with plenty more to go this could be a precursor of what’s still to come here tonight.
- We head backstage where Rich Brennan is standing to get a few words with Rusev and Summer Rae ahead of Rusev’s bout with Dolph Ziggler up next. Summer Rae does most of the talking, cutting down that “hating-ass Lana” who clearly regrets getting rid of the best thing in her life, Rusev. Summer says that it’s too late now and that’s why Lana has shacked up with a second rate superstar in Dolph Ziggler. Rusev steps in, saying that the time for talking is over, and now is the time for one thing only – Rusev, crush! Rusev takes on Dolph Ziggler, next at Summerslam!
- We get a short video package and Jake and Josh, the winners of Draft King’s WWE Summerslam competition.
Rusev (w/ Summer Rae) vs. Dolph Ziggler (w/ Lana) The crowd were pretty hot going into this match, there were some big reactions for both men and the energy was still there from the hot opener. Rusev and Ziggler didn’t seem interested in disappointing either and this was the best Ziggler has looked in a while, playing off of Rusev’s power and always surprising agility. Dolph played the underdog face right from the start as Rusev had control of proceedings with Ziggler getting in bursts of offence only for the Bulgarian to bring him crashing to a halt every single time. Ziggler got a head of steam mid-way through the match and from there everything got a bit more even into the ending stretch, including a crowd popping spot that saw Ziggler hit his superkick only for Rusev to fall into the ropes, rebound and nail his own big superkick that left both men down. Rusev made it up first and locked in the Accolade, Summer Rae climbing up on the ring apron to cheer her man on. Lana yanked her straight on down and pushed her to the ground, Rusev breaking the hold to go over and check on her resulting in an argument with Lana. Ziggler came from behind with a Zig Zag attempt but Rusev powered him off only for Dolph to connect with the leaping DDT. As Ziggler set up for another Zig Zag Summer tackled Lana on the outside and this time it was Dolph’s turn to be distracted. As Summer and Lana went at it outside Ziggler was thrown with a German suplex by Rusev, who followed up with another big superkick for the pinfall victory. Rusev Defeats Dolph Ziggler (12:11) ***1/2
- The crowd boo as Rusev picks up the victory in what turned out to be a fantastic match. Lana quickly enters the ring to check on Dolph and Rusev roars that he warned her what would happen to her “pretty boy Dolph”. Rusev made his exit with Summer having got the victory over his rival here tonight.
- We head backstage were Jon Stewart is seen in the trainers room as Mick Foley is being looked over. Neither of them is happy over Seth Rollins’ underhanded attack on the Hardcore Legend earlier tonight, but brighten up when WWE United States Champion John Cena enters the room. He checks in on Mick Foley, the icon saying he’ll be fine as long as John beats Seth Rollins’ ass tonight and ensure that the WWE World Heavyweight Championship is back around the waist of someone who respects what it means to be a champion. Stewart tells Cena to make sure he gives Rollins his moment of Zen later tonight, Cena promising that he’s going to do exactly that here at Summerslam.
- We get a short video highlighting some of the Summerslam festivities from this weekend.
Randy Orton vs. Sheamus Coming off of two very entertaining matches this had a long battle to match them and the fans didn’t seem that interested in giving them the chance to do so. That isn’t exactly unwarranted either, this matchup is pretty stale and they struggled to show anything new in this contest. Still both men put on a show with Sheamus playing up the brute strength angle and Orton constantly fighting back with brains instead of just brawn. The one thing this match definitely did right is build the entire thing around their respective finishers, the RKO and the Brogue Kick very well could be more over than Orton and Sheamus themselves at this point! We got a lot of close calls and a very close false finish when Orton countered the Battering Ram into an RKO for a very close near fall. Sheamus recovered and the pair went at it again, the match going to the outside where Sheamus Brogue Kicked Orton right over the announce table but was only able to get two by the time he got him back in the ring. Later in the match Sheamus exposed one of the turnbuckles and countered an RKO attempt by sending Orton hurtling into the exposed turnbuckle then following up with a big Brogue Kick for the victory. Sheamus Defeated Randy Orton (14:54) **1/2
- Sheamus begins celebrating the victory, holding up the Money in the Bank briefcase as a reminder that we could very well be looking at the next WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Whether that’s the case or not one thing is for certain, here tonight at Summerslam Sheamus has put down the Apex Predator.
- We head backstage where Jon Stewart is talking with Stephen Amell & Neville, wishing them luck for their upcoming match. At least that’s what he seems to be doing at first because it quickly becomes apparent that he’s pitching himself a role on Arrow and Amell & Neville are just trying to make excuses to leave. Stewart wants to play Amell’s “super-skilled mentor who is wise but also really good with the ladies”. Amell says he’ll get right on that, but right now he and Neville have some super-villains of their own to sort out. The pair make their exit as quickly as possible and Stewart is left on his own, musing that he’s “going to make the best super hero ever”.
- Ahead of our next contest we get a lengthy, superhero inspired video package highlighting the feud between the star of Arrow, Stephen Amell, Neville and the dastardly Lords of Darkness. Heroes and villains collide next at Summerslam!
Stephen Amell & Neville vs. The Lords of Darkness There were mixed feelings going into this match because nobody knew exactly what we were going to get. In the end this turned out to be a pretty entertaining match because it used Amell sparingly, bringing him in only when he was needed and never making him look too good or too weak. As such Neville worked most of the match, getting worked over by Stardust and Barrett, who noticeably made a very good pairing, and had flurries of offence to even things out. Amell had two noticeable in-ring moments. The first being an in-ring flurry against Stardust to show off his surprising ring acumen that unfortunately led to him being worked over by the Lords of Darkness (a ring name the crowd ate up) before making the tag. From there we had a high energy ending stretch with Amell actually making a leap of faith from the top turnbuckle to the outside on Stardust and Neville putting Barrett away with the Red Arrow for the victory. Stephen Amell & Neville Defeated The Lords of Darkness (08:35) **1/2
- The crowd give a good pop as Neville and Stephen Amell are announced as the victors, the Green Arrow and the Red Arrow coming out on top over the Lords of Darkness. With Barrett down in the ring Stardust screams from the ramp that this isn’t over, and that he’ll bring Oliver Queen to his knees. Stardust is as batty as ever but tonight he’s on the losing side of things as the Arrows soar.
- Prior to the next match we get a lengthy recap about the big NXT Takeover event that took place just last night here in Brooklyn, recapping the entire event. The show was of course headlined by a double main event as Bayley finally became the NXT Women’s Champion and Finn Balor successfully defended the NXT Championship against one of our next competitors Kevin Owens. NXT, the next generation of WWE talent, comes to you on the WWE Network every week!
- And speaking of the next generation, we return to ringside for a brief glimpse of our four WWE Tough Enough finalists. Four become two and our winners are crowned this week only on the USA network.
Cesaro vs. Kevin Owens This is exactly what you’d expect from these two men, a down and out straight up wrestling match, the kind you’d expect to see more in Ring of Honor than in WWE. These two knew coming into this that they were working with someone who could work a much stiffer style and they both took advantage of that and the match quality soared as a result. This was as even as possible with both men throwing everything they had at each other, building up from a small technical back and forth into their bigger power moves. The most important thing is that the pacing was sublime, they knew exactly how to amp the crowd up before busting out any of their signature stuff and so when they did the crowd went crazy for it. Cesaro looked to be in control with a flying uppercut from the ring apron to the outside, but that was false confidence for the King of Swing because it’s outside the ring that Kevin Owens is dangerous as he capitalised on an unseen low blow to hit the apron powerbomb, and then follow that up with another powerbomb this time into the security barricade which was downright sick. Owens managed to get things back into the ring and it looked like Cesaro was done but somehow it was only a very near fall. Owens attempted to finish things off with the pop-up powerbomb but Cesaro leaped clean over him, took him off of his feet and delivered the crowd pleasing Cesaro swing! He straight up turned the swing into the sharpshooter with surprising dexterity but that wasn’t enough as Owens made it to the ropes. The match got close again when Cesaro went for a springboard uppercut only for Owens to catch him mid-air and deliver a big German suplex which actually got a “suplex city” chant out of the Brooklyn crowd much to Owens amusement. Owens again went for the pop-up powerbomb only for Cesaro to counter with a hurricanrana and then go for the Neutraliser. Owens countered with pure strength as he actually lifted Cesaro up and planted him with the Air Raid Crash! From there it was just down to Owens to lift Cesaro up, deliver a huge Pop-Up Powerbomb and get the three for the victory an easy match of the night contender. Kevin Owens Defeated Cesaro (16:42) ****1/4
- The Barclays Centre erupts after seeing possibly one of the best WWE matches of the year right here at Summerslam. Kevin Owens rises to his feet, unsteady, and then in the ultimate sign of disrespect proceeds to rub his boot in the face of Cesaro, drawing the ire of the crowd. Owens doesn’t care, he’s proved he can do a lot more than walk, Owens, walk here tonight.
- We head backstage where JoJo is standing by to get a few words from Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns ahead of their clash with The Wyatt Family. The two men talk about how they stood together when they were The Shield, but that they weren’t just partners, they were brothers and they still are. They’ve always stood side by side, Shield or no Shield, and this isn’t the first time they’ve ran into The Wyatt Family. They’ve beaten them before and tonight they’ll do it again, they’ll prove that The Wyatt Family haven’t been resurrected, they’re just hanging on to the edge of their grave and they’re the ones who are going to push them in. Believe that.
- We get a short video package highlighting the recent war between Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and The Wyatt Family, going all the way back to the epic Shield / Wyatt Family clash at Elimination Chamber last year all the way to this year’s money in the Bank where Bray cost Reigns the Money in the Bank briefcase. Now, having drawn in Dean Ambrose and Luke Harper into things it’s time for the two sides to clash one more time here in Brooklyn.
Roman Reigns & Dean Ambrose vs. The Wyatt Family The crowd were excited for this one after being reminded of what these four were part of in the early months of 2014, and were certainly hoping they’d get more of that here than some of the more formulaic efforts we’ve had from three of these four this year (Luke Harper being the exception). In the end it was a mix of those things, the opening half being pretty by the books albeit fairly hard hitting and having some solid moments of it’s own. It wasn’t until we got to the second half of the match, directly following a dive through the ropes by Ambrose that ended up with him being caught and planted by Sister Abigail on the floor that things really kicked off. With Reigns outnumbered it was like a switch went off and things got crazy. Reigns did a solid job of fighting off both Wyatt and Harper including a double superman punch that got a good pop. This was probably the best Reigns has looked in months and the crowd were actually on his side for much of it. Ambrose soon joined the fray and things just broke down into an all out brawl. Ambrose and Harper took things to the outside with Ambrose taking Harper clean out of things by sending him into the timekeepers area and then running the announce tables to take him out with a big clothesline. It was now Wyatt’s turn to be outnumbered but he turned things around by avoiding a spear, sending Reigns straight into Ambrose. Reigns fought off Sister Abigail and connected with a second superman punch, before setting up for the spear… but suddenly Ambrose slips inside the ring and nails Reigns with a Knee Trembler! The crowd are in shock as Ambrose lifts Reigns up and lays him out with the Dirty Deeds, exiting the ring and leaving an equally stunned but laughing Wyatt to make the cover and get the victory. The Wyatt Family Defeated Roman Reigns & Dean Ambrose (14:21) ***3/4
- The crowd are in absolute shock as The Wyatt Family are announced as the winners, all down to Dean Ambrose turning on his “brother” Roman Reigns. Bray Wyatt kneels over Roman Reigns, arms outstretched, Luke Harper standing behind him, but all eyes, and the boos, of the crowd are focused on one man. A remorseless, focused looking Dean Ambrose backing up the ramp, completely ignoring the crowd, his eyes trained on one man. His fallen “brother”, the man he turned his back on here tonight, Roman Reigns.
- We go backstage where Jon Stewart is talking to Rich Brennan about how much fun he’s having here tonight when he’s interrupted by a certain advocate for the beast Brock Lesnar, Paul Heyman. Heyman tells Stewart to step aside and hijacks the interview, launching into a classic Paul Heyman rant about how The Undertaker should have been happy staying in retirement. The Undertaker wasn’t even smart enough to just come to the ring and challenge Brock Lesnar like a man, because at least then Brock would have settled for just sending The Undertaker back into the darkness. But he didn’t do that, he cost the beast the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. So Brock isn’t going to beat The Undertaker, he’s going to crush him. He isn’t going to hurt The Undertaker, he’s going to tear him to pieces. He isn’t going to retire The Undertaker, he’s going to kill him. The Undertaker likes to call himself the dead man? Well by the end of the night he’ll be exactly that. Heyman storms off as Stewart and Brennan are shocked by the vitriol, Stewart breaking the silence by saying “and I thought I liked the sound of my own voice”.
- We go from Paul Heyman to a highly dramatic video package centred around last year’s WrestleMania, namely the moment that Brock Lesnar did the impossible and ended the stream of the Undertaker. We fast forward to last month when The Undertaker returned and cost Brock Lesnar the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, vowing to get revenge on Brock Lesnar, promising that you can’t kill what will not die. Tonight Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker’s war reaches its climax, as the beast and the Phenom clash one on one at Summerslam.
The Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar (w/ Paul Heyman) This was a huge match, not only because it’s the beast vs. the Phenom but because it’s a rare appearance by The Undertaker outside of WrestleMania and, unlike his last bout with Brock, the deadman actually looked pretty good inside the ring during this match. There were some concerns that Undertaker wouldn’t be able to cope with the physicality of Lesnar but those concerns seemed to be put to bed pretty early on as Brock came into this with the same aggression and intensity that has made his run such a much watch among crowds. The Undertaker absolutely gave as good as he got and seemed pretty happy that he didn’t have to pull his punches when it came to his striking game so this one was a lot better than their previous encounter. This was probably the most back and forth match that Brock Lesnar has had since his WWE return as there were genuinely moments when it seemed like Undertaker could beat him. At the same time Lesnar manhandled The Undertaker in ways you just wouldn’t see anybody else do. The bout continued back and forth, including a spot that got an insane pop when Lesnar mocked Undertaker’s sit up spot followed by Undertaker mocking Lesnar’s laughing grin. Late in the match, with Lesnar taking control, The Undertaker sent Lesnar into the official and followed up with a low blow. Undertaker proceeded to uncharacteristically grab a steel chair, push Paul Heyman into the announce table when he tried to stop him, and then unload on Lesnar with the chair multiple times. Every single time he sent Lesnar down the beast got back up all the way up to the point that the Phenom had to deliver a Tombstone Piledriver on the chair to keep him down. Taker threw the chair out, dragged the official up and went for the pin… but only got two! Everyone was stunned at this, Taker included, the Phenom dragging Lesnar up, delivering another Tombstone and finally getting the three count to put the beast away. The Undertaker Defeated Brock Lesnar (15:11) ***1/2
- The entire crowd are absolutely stunned, not just because The Undertaker has just beaten the beast Brock Lesnar but because of the way it went down, Undertaker having to cheat to overcome Lesnar. Paul Heyman is going absolutely berserk, trying to explain what happened to the official. When that doesn’t work Heyman begins screaming at Undertaker and in response Undertaker grabs him by the throat and delivers a huge chokeslam to the advocate of the beast incarnate! The Undertaker makes his exit just as Brock Lesnar is recovering, the beast absolutely fuming as he realizes he has just lost this match.
- We go backstage where The New Day are still celebrating winning the WWE World Tag Team Championships, Xavier Woods playing a trombone like a madman. They’re running through the corridors and end up bumping clean into Triple H, spilling coffee down the COO. Everyone goes quiet as Triple H looks furious. He congratulates The New Day on winning the titles, then tells them that he’s got a very special surprise for them tomorrow night on RAW, and they might not like it very much. Triple H pushes through them, dabbing at the coffee on his suit as The New Day look at each other awkwardly, Xavier starting to shout that he doesn’t like surprises as Big E and Kofi try to calm him down.
- We get a lengthy video package highlighting the recent Diva’s Revolution, from the debut of three-fourth’s of NXT’s Four Horsewomen in Charlotte, Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks. It runs through the recent conflict between Team PCB, Team Bella and Team B.A.D. all culminating in this, a three team elimination match on the biggest show of the Summer!
THREE TEAM ELIMINATION MATCH Team PCB vs. Team Bella vs. Team B.A.D. The Diva’s Revolution took centre stage and, with the crowd still buzzing after the clash between the beast and the Phenom these nine women had a lot to live up to. Thankfully the majority of the Diva’s were absolutely bringing their A-games wanting to make an impact after being given a big chance to showcase their skills. With the nine women having to tag in and out it was clear that Brie and Tamina’s involvement was limited to put the focus on the more talented in-ring competitors, however Sasha was also kept out for lengthy portions probably due to her physical and incredible match with Bayley just one day ago. In fact Sasha’s only real contribution was a solid, if short, back and forth with Paige that nearly led to her eliminating her with the Bank Statement, only for Becky to come to the rescue. As a result Naomi did most of the work for Team B.A.D. and it came as little surprise when she ended up getting tripped by Brie on the outside and then hit with the Rack Attack for the pinfall and to send Team B.A.D. unceremoniously packing from the match much to the fans disappointment as the Barclays Centre launched into a huge Sasha Banks chant. They were soon silenced as Team PCB began to really show their stuff, taking control of the match against the Bella’s and Alicia Fox, who was clearly the whipping girl throughout the exchange. Team PCB all looked like stars while Nikki actually looked like a valiant competitor trying to keep her team in it until they could use dirty tricks to try and win the thing. These dirty tricks came soon enough though as Brie and Alicia yanked Paige and Becky out of the ring and began a huge brawl on the outside that drew the attention of the official. It was at this point that Nikki grabbed the Diva’s Championship and tried to nail Charlotte with it, only for the daughter of the Nature Boy to duck, kick the belt straight into Nikki’s face and then lock in the Figure Eight. Paige and Becky turned the tables on Team Bella, keeping Brie and Alicia out of the ring, leaving Nikki to tap out in the middle of the ring! Team PCB Defeated Team Bella & Team B.A.D. (15:52) ***1/2
- The crowd erupt, Charlotte has just tapped out the Diva’s Champion in the centre of the ring at Summerslam! Team PCB begin celebrating in the ring while Brie pulls Nikki out of it, Team Bella making a hasty retreat up the ramp, knowing full well that Nikki’s title reign has truly been put on notice here tonight.
- We head backstage where Seth Rollins is getting ready for his double title match with John Cena later tonight when Triple H and Stephanie McMahon enter, Rollins immediately trying to act confident and cocky in front of The Authority. Triple H tells Rollins that here tonight he has a massive task ahead of him, and one that he has to do alone. He tells Rollins that none of The Authority will be at ringside with him tonight, that none of them will be there from start to finish. Rollins seems annoyed by this, asking Triple H whether he’s actually on his side. Stephanie intervenes, telling Seth to man up and stop blaming other people for his shortcomings. Rollins snaps, telling The Authority that he’s been the champion since WrestleMania and he’s done it despite their attempts to stack the deck against him every step of the way. Tonight he beats John Cena, becomes the WWE United States Champion, keeps his WWE World Heavyweight Championship and takes the fate of his career out of The Authority’s hands and into his own. He pushes past The Authority, who seem shocked by his outburst as we cut to ringside.
WWE INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH Ryback [c] vs. Big Show vs. The Miz This was a very simple cool down match ahead of the main event after some very intense and high octane contests. These three worked a very different style to the rest of the card, keeping it slow, letting the crowd catch their breath and putting in a decent level of action and intrigue in the process. The Miz was obviously outmatched when it came to strength and size and he quickly found himself thrown out of the ring by both Ryback and then, when he tried to get back in, by the Big Show. This left the two giants to go at it with very much the traditional “who will fall first” big man battle. It was Big Show that surprisingly went down at the hands of a meathook clothesline, but the giant soon fought back and hit Ryback with a WMD, only for Ryback to shockingly kick out! Big Show hoisted Ryback up and planted him with a chokeslam, but this time The Miz broke the count! Big Show bullied The Miz around the ring, throwing him about and going for a chokeslam, only for Ryback to enter the fray, nailing Show with another meathook while The Miz dodged, but ended up outside the ring from the momentum. Ryback lifted Big Show up and then delivered a mammoth Shellshock, only for the Miz to slide back in the ring, throw Ryback out of it and then steal the pin on Big Show to become the new WWE Intercontinental Champion! The Miz Defeated Ryback & Big Show to become the NEW WWE Intercontinental Champion. (07:43) **1/2
- The crowd, and indeed Ryback, are in shock as The Miz has become the new WWE Intercontinental Champion, albeit under very underhanded circumstances. Miz grabs the title from the official and makes a hasty exit as Ryback storms the ring, furious at this turn of events. The Miz holds the Intercontinental Championship up as he backs up the ramp, Ryback pacing furiously inside of it.
- We head backstage where Rich Brennan is stood beside John Cena, looking to get a few words with the WWE United States Champion ahead of this blockbuster main event. John Cena says this match is unprecedented, that tonight is the night all his work over the past few months as WWE United States Champion has been building to. Tonight he steps inside that ring as United States Champion and he walks out as the United States and WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Tonight he kicks Seth Rollins’ ass and shuts him up for good. John Cena declares that tonight is the night Rollins gets what’s coming to him.
- We get a lengthy video package starting all the way back at WrestleMania when John Cena became the WWE United States Champion by defeating Rusev and Seth Rollins cashed in Money in the Bank to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. We fast forward to the build-up to Summerslam, with Seth Rollins breaking John Cena’s nose and challenging him to a double title, winner takes all match that John Cena of course accepted. Tonight the WWE World Heavyweight Champion and the WWE United States Champion collides, and only one man can walk out with all the gold.
WINNER TAKES ALL MATCH FOR THE WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP AND THE WWE UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP Seth Rollins [c] vs. John Cena [c] This was it, the main event of the 2015 Summerslam pay per view and you can bet that after a great night of action that these fans were ready for this one. There was a really even split amidst the crowd, something everyone has come to expect from a John Cena match at this point. This one wasn’t actually focused around the concept of a face and a heel but rather, for the most part, just good old fashioned wrestling with neither man looking better than the other. Rollins brought his kamikaze style to proceedings as it appeared early on that he realized he’d have to go all out and throw everything he had at Cena in hopes of beating WWE’s resident superpower. Cena of course took everything Rollins could throw at him and fought back with a whole lot more. One particular spot early on saw Rollins go for a suicide dive only for Cena to catch him and go for an Attitude Adjustment through the announce table. Rollins actually landed on his feet and then backflipped off to hit a standing moonsault on the United States Champion. The match was built around that, the idea that both men could counter the other at a moment’s notice and they did exactly that numerous times. Cena countered the flying knee with an STF that Rollins narrowly countered, while Rollins escaped a second Attitude Adjustment and hit the big knee that nearly got him the victory in itself. A missed phoenix splash attempt led Cena to hit the Attitude Adjustment, only for Seth Rollins to shockingly kick out. As Cena went for second Attitude Adjustment Rollins caught the official in the face, seemingly by accident, and while Cena connected there was nobody to make the count. As Cena looked on shocked what happened next was even more shocking, as Kevin Owens appeared in the ring and hit Cena with a boot to the gut, followed by a big Pop-up Powerbomb! The crowd couldn’t believe what they’d just seen as Owens exited the ring and hid behind the apron while the official reached his feet. Rollins was the next one up, quickly grabbing Cena, dragging him up and then delivering a massive Pedigree to the United States Champion. Seth weakly made the cover but that was all it took, as a three count later it was all over! Seth Rollins Defeated John Cena to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and become the NEW WWE United States Champion! (20:21) ****1/4
- The crowd erupt in an absolutely deafening chorus of boos, but the fact of the matter is Seth Rollins has done it! Seth Rollins is now the WWE World Heavyweight and WWE United States Champion. John Cena is down and out and Rollins holds both championships above his head, but now comes the moment of truth as Kevin Owens enters the ring, staring down the champion. The two men go toe to toe, a truly surreal moment for anyone who has followed their careers over the years. The crowd go silent, and then erupt into more boos as Rollins and Owens shake hands and lift each other’s arms, cementing some kind of alliance. Whatever is going on, whatever plan Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens have cooked up, it has come at the cost of John Cena’s United States Championship. And the WWE might never be the same again.

Rollins the WWE World Heavyweight Champion attacking WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley right in front of our eyes to start off SummerSlam laying him out with the Pedigree, I wouldn't be surprised if Foley ends up returning later on in the night and he ends up costing Rollins the WWE World Heavyweight Championship interfering on Cena's behalf but still Rollins with that cheap shot with a low blow and then hitting him with the Pedigree, I wonder if there is a tide turning?
New Day winning back the WWE Tag Team Championships becoming 2 time WWE Tag Team Champions beating The Primetime Players and The Lucha Dragons in a Triple Threat Match for the WWE Tag Team Championships well it was Triple Threat Rules so a certain tag team that being the champions don't even have to be involved in the decision but still New Day I mean it was only a matter of time before they won back the titles and really in the tag division who is more entertaining than Kofi, Xavier and Big E? No team really but PTP they still have their rematch clause which I am sure they will use at some point between tomorrow night on RAW and Night of Champions
Rusev beating Ziggler here, I mean now that Rusev has beaten Ziggler he can finally be free of both her and Lana and Rusev can move on to other things that being he can move on to championship gold once again which means Rusev could set his sights back on the WWE United States Championship or he can turn his attention to the WWE Intercontinental Championship but either way I just hope that this Ziggler/Rusev/Lana/Summer Rae feud is over but then if it is where does that leave Dolph? Or who could Ziggler feud with next?
Mick Foley I am surprised that after this attack he didn't go right after Rollins but since he is being looked at by medical staff and what not I wonder if Foley will somehow still make an impact tonight here at SummerSlam? But for Cena he has a chance at history because if Cena wins tonight then not only will he be WWE United States Champion but Cena will tie Flair's record of 16 World Titles, Cena has a chance at immortalizing his legacy tonight if he beats Rollins
Sheamus beating Orton here tonight at WWE SummerSlam well Sheamus beating Orton doesn't come as a surprise given how this rivalry has been Orton has always had the upper hand more or less and to see Sheamus come out on top I mean it makes sense considering Sheamus has that Money in the Bank briefcase so he needs all the momentum he can get and really Orton doesn't need the win because as we all know that Orton after a loss he has the remarkable ability to bounce back pretty quickly and Sheamus ever since he has won that briefcase he hasn't really won a lot of matches so I can see why he needed this win but even so Sheamus with this briefcase of his he can even cash in tonight on either Cena or on Rollins depending on how tonight's main event goes
Stephen Amell & Neville beating Stardust and Wade Barrett well I think this was pretty obvious considering how Amell is a celebrity and rarely do celebrities ever lose matches especially when they are in a WWE ring much less even in a tag team with a WWE superstar so Amell obviously gives SummerSlam that much needed press just by him even being in this match but at the same time this puts Stardust over too even though he did lose to a celebrity but still I can see his feud with Neville continuing after this but as for Barrett who knows where he goes from here
The Wyatt Family, Bray Wyatt & Luke Harper beating Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose, Bray Wyatt in this diary he is now 3-0 at SummerSlam PPVs considering 2013 he beat Kane in an Inferno Match and then 2014 he beat Chris Jericho and now 2015 he wins yet another SummerSlam match but this time teaming with Harper to beat Reigns & Ambrose but at the same time this match was not without controversy especially with Ambrose turning heel on Reigns turning his back on Reigns in this match laying him out with a Knee Trembler and everyone in shock hell I am in shock because I was not expecting this at all this just takes my breath away but all I have to say all I have to ask is "Why Ambrose Why?" Ambrose with one of the most shocking heel turns this year probably, I can't wait to see his explanation on RAW tomorrow night
Taker beating Lesnar well Taker he did what he had to do even if it meant resorting to cheating to win this match Taker got his redemption nevertheless even if it meant going to that darker place which he failed to go to at Mania 30 but he got his revenge on Brock for Brock ending his Streak so at the same time I wonder where this leaves Taker now especially now that he has gotten his revenge by beating Lesnar here at SummerSlam? As for Brock I wonder where he goes from here especially after Taker beat him? Lesnar I can see him disappearing for a bit and then see him making his return at Royal Rumble time but as for Taker I can see him also doing the same thing disappearing for a bit and then returning on the road to WrestleMania 32 in this diary building up Taker's Mania 32 match against whoever he ends up facing in this diary
Wow Rollins he is determined to step out of The Authority's shadow and I will say this that it is about damn time Rollins steps away from Triple H & Stephanie because he doesn't need them anymore especially since he has become WWE World Heavyweight Champion and has managed to stay that way ever since WrestleMania 31, but that outburst just shows the evolution the maturity of Rollins because he doesn't need The Authority anymore but after that I wonder if this means Rollins will be turning babyface? Or if Rollins stays heel and The Authority end up turning babyface?
Team PCB beating Team BAD and Team Bella, this match I could really care less about but at the same time though the only thing in this match that I think that I was even remotely interested in was Team PCB picking up the win or Charlotte making Nikki tap out, Charlotte by her doing that she made a huge statement as far as the WWE Divas Championship goes I mean she made the WWE Divas Champion tap out and considering how long Nikki has been champion I mean could Charlotte become WWE Divas Champion? Could Charlotte live up to her father's legacy? Could Charlotte become a champion just like her WWE Hall of Fame father 2-time WWE Hall of Famer The Nature Boy Ric Flair? Could Charlotte become the greatest Divas Champion perhaps of all time? I would say Charlotte has a long ways to go but I think she could be
The Miz becoming the new WWE Intercontinental Champion beating Ryback and Big Show in a Triple Threat Match, Miz is now a 5-time WWE Intercontinental Champion in this diary, 5 times that Miz has won this title now and honestly Miz I feel with him as IC Champion he can do so much more with the belt than Ryback can or even could and considering how long Ryback's reign was as WWE Intercontinental Champion I would say Ryback is more suited to go after the WWE United States Championship now or perhaps Ryback now that he has lost his IC Title it could perhaps elevate him more to that next level whereas Big Show as far as he is concerned Big Show at this point he doesn't really need a title I mean he's a giant for crying out loud
Kevin Owens beating Cesaro, now that Owens has beaten Cesaro it begs the question of where Owens goes from here especially now that he no longer has Cesaro to worry about? I mean their rivalry has been so back and forth with them trading victory after victory but in the end Owens getting one over on Cesaro when it really counts I mean Owens now that he no longer has championship gold I wonder if he will set his sights back on title gold? But as for Cesaro I wonder where he goes from here?
And in the main event Rollins making history becoming the new WWE United States Champion but also retaining his WWE World Heavyweight Championship now holding 2 titles simultaneously at the same time, Rollins has forever put himself in WWE's history books but it isn't without controversy though because he didn't get the job done by himself, Kevin Owens of all people interferes in this match helping Rollins to beat Cena, but I wonder why Owens would help Rollins? This to me makes no sense at all but then again Owens didn't he and Cena have that rivalry a while back? So I wonder if this means you will be reigniting that rivalry yet again? I mean how many times have we seen Owens/Cena? And not to mention Rollins it would have been so much better if he had gone over Cena cleanly because now that he hasn't I mean it opens up the door for a rematch now but either way Cena has a rematch clause regardless as far as the WWE United States Championship goes but as for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship I think Owens did what he did because he wants a title match against Rollins
