So I was looking through the SDCC photo's of the upcoming figures line. I came upon the Elite Sami Zayn proto image and I have to say that looking at the NXT belt it looks like it might come out all rubber like the Elite 37 Brock Lesner.
Looking at the side plates of the belt it looks like the WWE logo is printed on the rubber.
What do you guys think? Is this the start of all rubber belts and no more plate belts.

I think it was a greyscale computer render. Hopefully we'll know by RSFest.

How can you tell from the render?

It's really hard to tell with that picture, maybe we will get more news about it at Ringside Fest. If they do go that route I wouldn't be surprised though. I'm sure they want to cut back as much as they can.

If they have to make cuts like this, then I think it's time to stop lol. They had a good run.

Well it was just a computer render so hopefully it won't be all rubber.

For the NXT belt to work in this scale without it being to big or to blocky it will have to be all rubber.

I wouldn't doubt it if the one-piece molded rubber belts are here to stay. All the paranoia surrounding the fate of the VAC belts could help Mattel sales anyway. The main reason I purchased the Elite Stardust instead of his basic was the fact it might be the last time to get shiny versions of the penny belts.

Due to the shape of the NXT Title, I think it would work way better in all rubber anyway.

If I'm paying Elite prices for these figures, Mattel better be producing the plastic/VAC titles with them. Cut the plastic for the Basic/Battle Packs line. Hell, cut out the accessories for all of the lines, other than Elite/Defining Moments.
It's bad enough they've already cut out cloth accessories for the most part. It's going to get to the point where these figures are going to be worth the $20-25 price point.

Rubber belts are dumb... The Mattel plate belts are my favorite thing to get. They look so nice compared to the old Jakks crap ones I grew up with. But those were still plates, and I'd replace the straps with actual pieces of leather. They NEED to be plates...

If they cut all the belts down like that, I might be done. I haven't really been excited for a figure in a long time. At this point it's just starting to feel like I'm going through the motions. I think Hollywood Hogan was the only figure that I was actually excited about.

The nxt belt would fit so awkward if the plates were plastic.
And let's be honest, no one's going to quit collecting over this, stop overreacting.

I think these molded belts have more to do with the design of the actual title being non-traditional over budget cuts. Every title that doesn't have a regular design gets screwed up by Mattel in VAC form. The 2013 WWE Title was a poor representation of the real thing. I never liked the fact the center plate was painted black instead of it being the surface of the actual strap. They fixed it in the Lesnar release. Even though there are still several things wrong with the belt, it looks more like the counterpart.
The NXT Women's title is another example, along with the Divas. The NXT Women's is just the wrong size -- most likely due to it's bulk for the plates. If it was molded, it would probably be more accurate to size. I say this because the Women's title with Trish is perfect. Those two titles are similar sizes in real life, but the toy versions differ greatly from pictures I've seen. Like I said, I think it's due to the plates on the NXT version being non-traditional.
Mattel finally fixed the Divas belt from being oversized as hell to somewhat accurate, but I'd still prefer a molded version if possible to kill the clunk factor.
Now, the NXT Title should be molded. That's gonna piss off alot of you, but I just don't trust Mattel to be able to pull that off otherwise. And honestly, that's a very weird title design to try to shrink down.
If they keep VAC for normal designs like the IC, Tag, US, etc. then I think this is a good thing.

Plastic belts are good and all but the plastic that comes through the strap is too restricting on bigger figures.

There is no excuse for anything but plastic plates. We are paying a premium in the market for retail wrestling figures. Elites range from $18.99 - $25.99 across the US. Since 2010 prices have risen nearly $4-$9 for Elites in stores like TRU, Target, and KMart. In that time we have lost extra accessories and cloth shirts for paint apps, rubber shirts, and bad attire choices.
Brock Lesnar better be the first and last to have a rubber belt. I don't want to hear how plastic belts restrict posibility and looks more authentic.... The Elite line was oresented as "THE MOST AUTHENTIC WRESTLING FIGURE LINE EVER". Cloth shirts was authentic. Hard plastic plates were authentic. When we allow then to cut corners like this, and continue to support the line/brand, we are only showing that we will blindly buy anything they release.
Quote me now, by 2017 we will lose articulation on Basics and Elites to cut costs of rising material costs. And everyone will continue to buy...

All we were shown was a gray prototype image. I'm reserving judgement until it's in my hands. The quality of the all rubber WWE title is pretty good imo. I prefer the plastic plating, but I don't think it's as dire as most people are making it out to be.

I hope so. I like this styled title way more the the bulky plate backs that box the figures instead of wrapping around them. Plus any figure with a logo on the the tights I am always worked the plates will scratch the logos.
