Never heard of this title until I saw the commercial on the NFL network a couple days ago. But I don't get why they have him using the Sniper scope in the commercial with an eye wearing an eye patch. lol I thought that was pretty lame. Anyway is this a new title or another installment of a past title?

It's a standalone game, and the last one that Hideo Kojima is making. It's been getting awesome reviews as well.

It's not a standalone, it's the fifth in the Metal Gear Solid series, and eleventh game released in the Metal Gear canon.
Its the connection between Peace Walker (PSP) and Metal Gear (NES).
Its one of the best games ever made.

In the lore, Solid Snake & Liquid Snake from Metal Gear Solid are cloned from "Big Boss." You're playing as Big Boss, since this game takes place in 1984 when the main protagonist of Metal Gear Solid was 12 years old. You're also playing as the end game boss for Metal Gear on NES. Spoiler #1 You're not playing as the real Big Boss, but a 'Phantom' in his image. Spoiler #2 Eli from The Phantom Pain, is a 12 year old Liquid Snake. Edit: Big Boss in The Phantom Pain is voiced by Kiefer Sutherland.

I didn't mean standalone as in it has no relation to the others, meant it like it's not a part 2 to something else, read "another installment of a past title" differently than it was intended

It's Part 2 as well of Metal Gear Solid V. Ground Zeroes is Part 1, The Phantom Pain is Part 2. Is it? Didn't realise haha! Thought it was set like 10 years after It is, but they were released as Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes / Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. They're directly related. Pivotal point is included in Ground Zeroes, someones voice is slowed down 50% that is a huge plot twist.

OK sorry to bump this, but I am seriously getting pissed with this game right now. I am going back and trying to get S rank on all the missions as well as some of the tasks I still need to do. This morning I decided to work on S rank for Hellbound and it is impossible. The best I get is an A rank. I get all the way to the bunker he is in then everytime (I replayed this mission about 10 times today) someone comes out of nowhere and spots me causing a slow motion reflex. And it is never from the same spot or enemy. So everytime the only thing missing at the end of the mission is a zero for no reflex and total stealth and it ends with an A rank. I have seen videos where people were spotted way more than me and received an S rank for it. It makes on sense.
OK I said F it. I decided once I got to the outpost the last time I was just going to capture it and extract everyone before I go into the bunker for the Doctor. And that seemed to work as I received a S rank. I think the one I will have the most issue with will be the very first level "Awakening" I have played that level a few times and still haven't even got one of the two challenges yet. lol

I purchased the digital copy of Ground Zero yesterday. Anyone play that yet? Of course! Story wise it plays directly into The Phantom Pain and explains why you fell into a coma. It's essentially one mission from The Phantom Pain, so it should be a breeze and the main mission can be S-Ranked in about 12 minutes. The trophies should be fairly easy to obtain. It was meant to be a precursor and essentially a demo for The Phantom Pain.

A major issue/glitch I have encountered in this game. It has happened at least 30 times over the last 2-3 weeks. In mission 14 "Lingua Franca" you need to listen to the 4 prisoner interrogations and everytime the same thing happens I get to the building where they are going to interrogate the Viscount. The guard pushes him through the door and he falls to the ground but it never triggers the Interpreter starting the interrogation. He just stands there with the two other soldiers never moving.
But if I do the mission and I was spotted and reset it they bring you to a checkpoint that was right after the first interrogation and in that case it does trigger the final interrogation, but the mission task doesn't get completed, because they then don't count the first interrogation that was completed. Very frustrating.

Very frustrating. I've heard about this one. I'm 31% in, just beat mission 19. That one sucks. Really sucks. You have to be within 15 m but not allow the guards to spot you. It's ridiculous. Just use the stealth Camo.

Except for this one mission task I am enjoying it. A major issue/glitch I have encountered in this game. It has happened at least 30 times over the last 2-3 weeks. Just use the stealth Camo. I had already gotten the S rank on it so I have been using stealth camo during it. Interrogation 1 works. Interrogations 2/3 work. But like I said once I get to the window (or even in the room with stealth camo) the interrogater just stands in the corner with the dude in the red cap. The Viscount stays on the floor at the door with the guard. And nobody moves or does anything. If I reset to the checkpoint it goes just after the first interrogation. (the guard had been knocked out by my tranq dart.) So from there interrogations 2/3 work as does #4, but it still doesn't register all 4 as being completed. #1 I am behind the crate behind the tin wall. #2 & 3 I am in the ditch just behind the 2 prisoners #4 I am outside the back window of the building they are in.
