Hello everyone.
So I filed for a post office job about 3 weeks ago, and I didn't think nothing of it. It was one of those job postings that I saw in my area and I said eh why not I fill out an application. So yesterday I was going through my email, because I hate seeing it build up and the USPS has been trying to contact me. So yesterday I filled out a consent form and faxed and then I saw they sent me an email to set up a drug test.
So I filled out the stuff online and choose what center I wanted to go to for the testing. They paid for it by the way. The paper that I printed out for the drug testing also had "pre employment" on it.
So my question is, does anyone think that this is a good sign that I basically could have this job? I freaking excited, because I know this job will most likely pay at least 14.00 an hour, and I can finally leave my job that is 8.05 an hour!

Pre-employment just means that something on your resume interested them and they want to get the most basic stuff out of the way to see if they want to move onto the next phase (i.e if you pass the drug test you may move forward).
Didn't know USPS was hiring, what with all the massive budget issues they're having and all. But it's a cozy job if you stay long enough, my uncle was a Postmaster for a long time. Best of luck.

As long as the background and drug test come back good, you have the job. It'll probably take a month or two.

As long as the background and drug test come back good, you have the job. It'll probably take a month or two. Welcome to the family, brother. My wife was a rural route carrier in Charlottesville for a while. She despised it. I believe it was due to the people more than the work though. |

My wife was a rural route carrier in Charlottesville for a while. She despised it. I believe it was due to the people more than the work though. I loved the job for the first year. Now I hate it. But the pay is too good to leave. |

Yeah I think its for mail sorter inside the facility. I know its not for delivery driver/carrier. I dont smoke or drink or doing anything illegal, so I know I will pass it. Never had any criminal charges on my background and never been in jail or arrested.
Hopefully they don't go by credit lol, because mine sucks, but doesn't most people in Americas credit suck lol.
Beardwells(I don't know how to tag people) but do you know how much they would start off at? or does that depend on the certain facility and where I live? Hopefully time, with benefits.

I worked in a mail room for an office building once as a temp. The first day was interesting, the second day was boring, and the third day I was insane and ready to kill. Good thing it was only for three days!

You'll get the job. I guarantee my credit is worse than yours will ever be. And I'm not sure how much clerks make. I make $15.68 an hour and I know clerks are around a dollar less.Hours are pretty good though. Much more relaxed job I assure you. I'm trying to switch over. |

My dad worked for the post office for 30 years. He loved it until the last 10 or so years. It just got worse and worse

I worked for the post office for a grand total of 1 day, hated it.
I say 1 day, because I was out on my own for 1 day, but I was "employed" for a little over a month or so.
The reason I left there, was because Mercedes called me, but here are some things that I can tell you that WILL happen.
1. You won't be full time until many many years.
2.You will be thrown in there without much training, besides the classes that you'll take while youre being introduced to how they work.
3. I'm not sure about how your training will go, but the very first thing they ask you is if you want to sign up for this, or sign up for that ... before you even get into training, so THAT was a major flag right there.
The things that will drive you crazy are UBBM Mail (Junk Mail) that you have to sort every morning before you go out on your route.
Speaking of your "route" ... you'll be thrown out there with no help in an area that you aren't familiar with. The post master will just tell you to "Follow the mail", but if you're a City Carrier, then you will have a blast lol
My friend, Wyatt, has been working for the USPS for 8 years and was JUST NOW considered Full Time and was given benefits.
I'm not sure if my experience was typical of how every office is ran, but from what I've heard from others ... it really is.

Some of this is accurate, while most is not, based on personal experience. I'm almost two years in. My sister has been carrying about six months longer and just made "regular." And while you aren't considered full time, at least in my state, you work much more than regular carriers. I was trained proper and when I got out there alone it wasn't difficult to figure it out. Again, this is my personal experience and based on several friends I have within the company. It may just be based on your area and your station. My only problems have been weather and working an extremely heavy schedule due to our station and area in general being understaffed. |
