There have been a total of FIVE Home Alone movies?
I love the first two (as many seem too)...and the third was decent (had a crush on Scar Jo even back in the day)
But the newest two? Meh.

As far as I'm concerned, there are only two Home Alone movies.

I was only aware of the first 4. I wasn't a fan of 3, and didn't bother watching 4.
First 2 are classics.

Yup. I think we bought the boxed set last year or the year before for $15. I thought it was worth it for the first two movies. Never watched the rest of the franchise once Culkin left.

They brought the McCallister family back (including Kevin as the main character) for 4 -- and just recast everyone. Harry was only mentioned, and Marv was recast, as well...

The first 2 are the only real home alone movies. Screw the rest of them.

And they seemed to have Harry & Marv mixed up too. I mean c'mon & that's the least of my gripes with that awful piece of crap. First & second are great films, even if the second was very similar to the first at times, the 3rd was good when I was a kid, but it doesn't hold up to me anymore, very cliched & way too much prat-falling. Fourth was garbage & I didn't know there was a fifth one until recently, but I'll definitely avoid that like the plague.

I haven't seen the 4th but watched the 5th last Christmas with my kid. Not good by any means but not terrible for a made for TV movie. It really could have left the Home Alone title on the shelf though.

Fourth was garbage & I didn't know there was a fifth one until recently, but I'll definitely avoid that like the plague. The problem with 3,4 and 5 was that they weren't written by John Hughes. Hughes was the writer and creator of the first 2 home alone movies. He came up with the script, characters, and storyline. Hughes wanted to make a 3rd with Macaulay Culkin but he had decided to quit acting at the time. Then however many years later Fox decided to cash in on the name and made the next three movies with different writers and directors. To bad they couldn't just leave them alone. I think that they have no respect for kids; they think they can just throw any peice of garbage together and put a blockbuster name on it and kids will love it. Even when I was a kid I knew that 3 and 4 were terrible and I never wasted my time with 5. Their is a reason that 1 & 2 come on every year at christmas time but the others are forgotten about.

Unpopular opinion: I don't like any of the Home Alone movies. But the fact that they made three more after the 2nd is just sad. I may not like them, but I at least understood the appeal for the first two movies. The last three? Just awful. Especially when they recasted all the characters.

There really only needed to be one. "Marv! How many fingers am I holding up?!?" "Uhhhhhhh -- eight?" "..."
