I'm sitting here looking at my wall, covered with 7" men in their plastic prisons....namely, every Ringside Elite Exclusive since Mattel took over. I've always been an "exclusive MOC" guy...but lately I've been thinking maybe it's just time for a change...... For the people who opened theirs, do you feel relieved? Like do you think it's better being able to display these guys in all their loose glory ......... Or do you regret it deeply? Do you wish you never send those cardboard and plastic homes off to whatever recycling center they now rest in waiting to become other figure packages or maybe someone's toothbrush I just think of these awesome exclusives that I still get to look at but they'll never know what "shelf dust" feels like, and I wonder if I'm making the right decisions here. (Plus I'm kinda running out of wall space and my room feels really small at times) Sometimes I'm like maybe I could just take them all out, save the boxes in case I change my mind...but then I gotta find a place to store lke a dozen or so figure boxes, the . So what's everyone's thoughts? And please refrain from "do whatever makes you happy"...I know that, I'm an adult and I've earned the right to be able to do that, I just wanted some discussion and opinions on opening figures. It's a slow news day.

Well, I open mine carefully without damaging the boxes, then I store the boxes. If I ever want to display them in the box or sell them in the box, I can do that easily. When I first started collecting, I opened them all and burned the boxes. I do regret that, but I get far more enjoyment taking them out of the boxes and displaying them loose.

The best thing to do is buy 2 of each figure that gives you the battle in your head between keeping them MOC for value purposes if you plan on reselling them, or opening them to enjoy everything about them from accessories to articulation and everything in-between. I never plan on reselling anything, so I open them immediately for display.

It's a huge joy when I let them escape from their cardboard prison! You can fully enjoy them once opened. Pose, play, and gaze all without the packaging! That's just me though.

if u keep all the exclusives MOC.....u can't have an NWO display on ur shelf. It'll just be e22 Giant and e16 Nash.
any New Gen display won't have 92 HBK next to the 92 Bulldog.

I open them all, you can get more on display and have them 'interact' with one another which in my opinion makes for a great display

I have all the Warriors and all the Rybacks, but I have them loose and moc, the moc I can't bring myself to open is the 2k14 exclusive, I think there are certain figures that shouldn't be subjected to shelf dust, they don't deserve it, they're too good for dust bro, keep em locked up in they're homes

I was only a loose collector then started MOC now I'm about 98% MOC
I feel more like an actual collector by keeping them in the packaging
I don't wanna have 300 loose figures laying around tbh

I open all of them. If it's one i really like how it looks in the package, like DM's, RSC exclusives(not all of them), I will buy 2 for that purpose. I mainly was a MOC guy until i started getting packages that were either poorly packed or just crushed by who delivered it. I decided to open a few up and never looked back. Now I don;t care it it's damaged unless i want 1 MOC. It sure makes it easier to buy one that is dinged up when you're going to open it.

I am kinda in the same boat as you but i also have a lot of loose figures. Most elites i have bought are still in the box not touched along with a few basic battle packs. They are all nicely lined up on top of my dvd shelves on display. I have a ton of movies which why i can fit about 15 boxes. I have also recently been thinking of opening them because of space issues. The boxes take way too much space. I have been looking at other's display to see if I like them and I do. I am just torn about opening them. Right now my loose figures are piling up in a big box waiting for me to figure how to display them. Good luck man. Curious to see what you decide and why.

I dont plan on selling, so opening is best unless I like the figure enough to buy two.
Posing with accessories, clothes, teams/stables >>> walls or tubs full of cardboard boxes.
I see so many posts of collections in closets...whats the point? You just gonna sit on them and hope they retain/gain value? Whatever

I only keep my DM's and Legends moc, everything else is loose. Well, apart from the 2010 best of elite Kane ive kept moc but when (if) I ever get the 02/03 RSC exclusive then the Best of '10 will be opened.

I open most of my figures. Though if you have built up a moc collection I'd say keep it that way.

I collect loose, but I keep all of the elite packaging and such because I love the box designs, especially for the RSC exclusives and Hall of Fame stuff. Seeing the new box design with Elite 39 has me even more excited but I digress.
The method to my madness is that I collect as a hobby, not because I want to make a mad profit in the future. If you're doing this hobby to make money, maybe this isn't the one for you. Case and point, I kept a few Jakks CS figures in their boxes thinking their value would increase, but sadly not a lot of them have gone beyond the original retail price. The fact I was able to score a CS Eddie for $7 at a local toy show kind of cements that fact. That and I don't plan to sell any of my figures soon anyway, so there you go.
I also like doing poses/pictures with my figures, and it's kind of hard to do if they're in their boxes. Like I said, I don't collect for value, I do it for fun, and if a figure I have happens to be worth the GDP of a small island nation, so be it. That's not to say those who keep their figures MOC are doing it wrong because some MOC collectors may not give a damn about value either, but if that's how you want to enjoy yourself, who am I to say otherwise?

I display mine loose. I like to be able to pose them every now and then in different ways to change things up and sort them around differently as well and just being able to touch them too and physically hold them in my hand kind of makes spending the money a little more worth while as opposed to just looking at them on the wall behind dusty clear plastic.
