I very rarely keep figures boxes. They look amazing displayed, posed and free from their cardboard prisons.

I hate having the mindset of "Well, if I ever try to sell this it needs to be MOC so I can get more $$" --- So, instead I just try to buy figures that I know I'll never sell. Plus, storing and displaying MOC Mattel figures is tough if you have a large collection.

only opened mine to save space. dread imagining how much room 2 storage tubs (200+) of figures would take up.

To each their own, but I don't understand the joy of MOC collecting unless it's for profit. I might as well go to Wal-Mart and just look at the figures hanging on the peg or stare at pictures of them online. Until I can get them out of the box, I don't really feel like they're my figures. But, Mattel makes it so easy with elite packaging to remove them without tearing up the box, so if you're struggling with what to do there should be no reason why you can't just take a few out and see how you feel about it, then just put them back in if you regret the choice.

As a guideline, I like to keep the exclusives or figs with special packaging MOC, and a handful of great looking releases in the regular Elite line as well. I mostly buy figures for a fed, but the ones I do keep MOC have to either be one of my favorites or look stunning in the package. Occasionally I do buy two of a figure (have one MOC and one loose in the latest DM's up through Sting, for example.)

I love looking MOC collections here but I couldn't imagine having all those bulky boxes taking up so much room in my house.

I should have been specifics...
90% of my collection is loose. Always will be. And I have all my Flashbacks, etc. displayed together so having the exclusives with them would just be a bonus I'm not in it for profit. However I do look at this hobby as a bit of a savings account...if I ever find myself in money trouble, I know where I can get some from.

To me, toys are for playing. I can't imagine buying a toy just to look at it. So boring.

I open them. I have my defining moments and rsc exclusive boxes still, but the rest of the boxes go into the trash.
I prefer to display figures open, in poses, as it gives them more life imo. Plus my ladybwould never allow a whole room of boxes thumb tacked to the walls.

To me, toys are for playing. I can't imagine buying a toy just to look at it. So boring. I used to feel that way, but the problem was I no longer enjoyed playing with them but still wanted to collect them. Now I have them all up on a shelf right over my desk and I find myself looking up at them a lot and sometimes just thinking stuff like "Hmm, I really need to get Yoko so I can put Bret and Luger on either side." Then, I start shopping for Yoko with this idea in my mind of how I want to pose them when I get him, with Yoko standing there facing the front and Bret/Luger on either side of him, turned slightly toward him but facing forward. Then, I go back and forth on how much shelf space I want to give each era. Like, right now almost 40% is dedicated to the Hogan era with the other 60% shared by New Generation/Attitude/WCW. I've started over twice, and as weird as it sounds the most fun I've had is displaying them and staring at them. But, if you still get the joy out of playing with them, I envy you!

I take them out of the box, but make sure to open the box carefully and I save it. I only do this with exclusive or hard to get figures from Japan.
