Honestly the only resident evil I ever liked was 4.

Resident Evil really hasn't been the same since 4.

RE 1,2,3 were some of the best gaming I had on PS1. RE code: Veronica was ok, while RE4 brought the franchise back to glory on PS2 RE5 and 6 were average action games and not RE style of survival horror on PS3
It seems someone at Capcom thinks its time for RE to go Call of Duty multiplayer style for PS4, sigh

Resident Evil 1-4 are the only ones I care for. The first 3 were so amazing to me when I was younger. 5 wasn't terrible, but 6 was just god awful.

I haven't liked Resident Evil since Nemesis.

I liked them all. I know the 4th was everyone's favorite, but I liked 5 the most. Played it back during my trophy hunting days.

Unlike most people i think the series peaked at 3.
I never felt like i was playing a RE game with 4, 5, etc.
1-3 is timeless.

0-4 were great. 5 was a letdown but gets too much flack. It's still a fun action game even though there's not much horror. 6 was terrible and the first RE I didn't finish.

Sorry for the bump, but PSN just did a 75% off deal on the RE digital games and I bought Nemesis and CVX. I still have the Gamecube remake of RE and RE2 for N64, and then 4/5/6 for PS3. So I essentially just used $6 to fill in the blanks.
I'm going to buy the PS4 version of 0/RE Remake. I've heard it's phenomenal. I never got around to playing 0, but I do know the story. I just fired up Code Veronica and I kind of forgot how much I enjoyed the story of Claire hunting down the Umbrella Origins and finding Chris. I don't remember liking it as much as I have on this recent play through. I'd argue it's more of a direct sequel than Nemesis.
Anyway, I've read that Capcom plans to convert all of the games for PS4. Unfortunately, at least on an individual release basis, they started with RE6, which is the absolute worst game of the main franchise imo. I say that as someone who finished both Leon and Chris's story. Leon's story was pretty good, and an extension of RE4 and the animated films, but the game itself is extremely weak on overall story. If you're not doing the co-op or online stuff, which isn't for me, it's not very good. I'm really looking forward to owning a RE2 remake. It's my favorite game of the franchise and it's being completely rebuilt. So envision the story telling of RE2, with the game engine of RE4, all upgraded to PS4 quality. So yeah, I'm pumped.
I love the RE series and I hope it can get back on track with RE7. Capcom seems to at least be aware of all the survival horror, or lack there of, complaints from fans. If I were to rank them, for arguments sake: RE2, RE Remake, RE4, RE CVX, RE Nemesis, RE 5, RE 6. I consider RE2, the remake and RE4 all 10/10 games. I like all of them, honestly. 5 and 6 went off the rails, but I still enjoyed the hell out of 5, plus that Lost Nightmares DLC was amazing, and 6 had Leon's quality portion of the game. I would love to see Chris/Claire/Jill/Leon get a split story game in RE7 and have it be a hybrid of the Remake and RE4, taking place between RECVX and RE4, where they can relaunch the series of sorts.

codename veronica was literally unplayable for me on the dreamcast. the mechanics were so bad, i could hardly even get from one room to the next at times or interact with objects.
resident evil 4 for gamecube was a great game though. actually played it for the first time at a fellow wfer's house, years upon years ago.

I'd definitely recommend getting 0/REmake, especially if you've never played 0, which is one of the most unique RE games. RE6 sucked so much ass, and was one in a chain of games Capcom released that destroyed some of their most beloved franchises. Dead Rising 3, DmC, SFxT. It's interesting that you liked Leon's story, as I thought his characterisation was really different from 2/4. It was Chris's story that was the most tolerable to me, and he at least felt in character. I played it co op and it was an absolute chore to play through lol. RE4 was kind of the best and worst thing that happened to Resident Evil. It was one of the greatest games ever made, and gave a much needed shake up to the survival horror genre. But it lead down a road that's more action/adventure than it is Survival Horror. If I was to rank the RE games as they are today, I'd rank them: RE4>CVX>5>REmake=0>2>3>6. Unfortunately, 2 and 3 haven't aged that well and both really do need a remake. Though they were amazing back in the day. Also BTW, I wouldn't expect RE2 to play like RE4, I would imagine it's going to be more akin to the first REmake.

Also BTW, I wouldn't expect RE2 to play like RE4, I would imagine it's going to be more akin to the first REmake. This is probably the most accurate statement anyone can make about that game. I bought the Origins Collection last weekend and played through 0 this week. I really loved it. The only thing I didn't care for was the inventory management. So many items took up two slots and that created weird drop scenarios where I was leaving items and then backtracking to get them. The hookshot is a key item once you get to the church but if you didn't know that ahead of time, it's kind of obnoxious to stop what you're doing and run back to the start, versus just having an inventory chest. Magnum ammo was only really plentiful before you actually needed it. However, I did really love the ability to drop and leave items in place, which is a function you're left without in the Remake. I quickly missed the ability to do that once I moved onto the Remake, especially with Chris, who only has the 6 slots. The train was such a cool setting to start the game in 0. I hope they'e tucking the return of Billy in their back pocket for an appropriate time. I started the Remake last night but I've played the GC version so many times, it kind of feels like going through the motions at this point. It was awesome to have a fresh experience with 0. I might play through the game in Wesker mode. I started that though and it's just a Wesker skin over Billy, and it makes for weird cutscenes haha. I absolutely loved the free fire, open the ceiling, ending boss fight. As far as RE6, I thought RE6 Leon was exactly the same as he was in Degeneration and Damnation, which is just his growth as a government agent from RE4. Chris was an emotionally charged RE5 Chris. From a character standpoint, Chris was great, his campaign story was terrible though imo, at least until the ending. It just didn't feel like RE at all to me and was too much of a clunky action shooter. Leon's story at least centered around letting people know about Raccoon City and it tied back to the original trilogy. Plus, it had a good atmosphere and actual zombies. Leon's Chapter 1 was the best part of the whole game for me. His first 3 chapters were actually really great, but it definitely peaked at that point. I guess it's relative to what you were looking to get out of it but regardless of your favorite campaign, it was still a huge drop-off and departure from all the games that came before it. RE2 is being made completely from scratch. So I think we're going to get a retooled shooting engine. Maybe we get an option for over the shoulder or classic. They have a lot of flexibility. I'm fine with either, honestly. I think the over the shoulder helps with whacky camera angles, but then it kind of takes away some of the survival elements when you can make easier head shots. Getting RE2 and FF7 remakes are a dream come true for me. So I'm just happy that it's happening at all.

I completely agree with you about the item management in 0, it was extremely frustrating having to almost know ahead of time what items you're going to need. I found having 2 knives between you was a waste too, so I ended up dropping one of them permenantly. 0 is a very under rated game in terms of story though. It would be nice to see Billy turn up in a future game but that's pretty unlikely. I didn't watch the 2nd of the CGI RE movies,my brother attempted to watch it and he told me it was horrendous, but the first I saw and loved it. I did feel like with RE6 that even though I had played (or at least watched my brother play Nemesis, it was too scary for me as a kid but I've gone back and played it since then) every game, that I had been dropped in the middle of a story that I had no idea what was going on. Chris' story ending is probably what made me like it the best, as the Armageddon rip off with Piers was both humerous and memorable. Leon is by far my favorite RE character, so I guess his characterisation shift put me off his storyline. You could be right about RE2. In all honesty a RE2 story with RE4 gameplay would be like a dream come true for me. I just kind of figured they would do with it, what they did with the origial RE when they did the REmake. I'm more than a little worried that Alyson Court won't be voicing Claire again for it though. To me she is completely irreplaceable in that role (other VAs in RE I'm not as fussed about).

Mercier didn't voice Leon either in that second one, so it was the same change we got for Leon in RE6, same VA. Leon is my favorite character as well. Surely Court HAS to return to voice Claire for RE2? I know she was out on Revelations but didn't fans make a big huge stink about it? I don't play the stuff outside of the main series, so I've never heard her replacement from that game. I think Claire is heavily rumored to be the main character for 7. So it would be nice to get her back onboard for both. Fingers crossed they don't try to be stupid with that.

The scene in Degeneration at the end when Leon is running through loads of obstacles that I absolutely love. I definitely know fans made a stink about it, but I'm not sure Capcom would go back to her now after she's been replaced. Sucks because she wanted to do it (according to her twitter). I never played Revelations 2 because they recast her voice and I thought her new one was grating. It would have just ruined the game for me so I thought there's no point in bothering to put myself through it. Shame in a way, because Barry has always been a favorite character of mine so for him to get a big role in a game is cool. I wouldn't be surprised if Claire was in RE7 at all, either her or Jill. As they've both not had a game focusing on them for a long time now.
