With the day of Halloween almost upon us, I figured I'd talk about one of the more well known horror shows of the late 90's to early 2000's, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Personally I really enjoyed the show, though I struggled through season 7, but rather enjoyed seasons 1-5, 6 had a few good episodes, but it was already getting a bit long in the tooth. I still remember watching a part of an episode as a kid, really liked it & decided to watch more of the show & last year finally watched the whole show from start to finish.
Let's discuss anything like;
-Favorite & least favorite characters -Favorite episode, or even top 5 or 10 episodes & least favorite episode -Best & worst favorite season in your opinion
So what do you guys think?

One of my favorite shows of all time, not to mention consistently got better in many ways as it went on and the characters were allowed to grow...
-Favorite & least favorite characters
Spike. Far and away the best character on the show, in my opinion. From "School Hard" through that whole "...you're the one, Buffy." at the end of S7.
-Favorite episode, or even top 5 or 10 episodes & least favorite episode
The musical ep is my favorite single ep; the alternate universe with BDSM Vamp Willow; the Christmas ep with Angel; the Spike flashback ep; the final ep of S5...
-Best & worst favorite season in your opinion
Best season is 6, in my opinion. Everything that has to be dealt with by all the characters, the arcs, the Dark Willow story, etc. Worst season was 1, but -- they were ordered last minute, had a minuscule budget, and basically all unknown talent at that point, both in front of and behind the camera.

Combined with Angel (which is so linked that they're basically one giant show together), it's probably the best viewing experience a person could ever have.
-Favorite & least favorite characters Favs: Buffy, Doyle, Faith, Spike, Angel, Cordy. I could seriously not pick just one, any of these characters could be my favorite.
Least favs: Willow. Her centric episodes were often among the worst of the series and I find Hannigan to be frequently annoying. Particularly in later seasons. Gunn, often displayed disloyalty towards everyone. He ditched his original group to hang around with Angel and on several occasions betrayed him, or threatened to.
-Favorite episode, or even top 5 or 10 episodes & least favorite episode Fav: The Zeppo is probably my favorite Buffy episode. Favorite Angel episodes are the first 9, Smile Time, You're Welcome, A Hole In The World and Not fade away. Least Favs: The Dark Willow ones.
-Best & worst favorite season in your opinion Fav:3 (Buffy) 1/5(Angel) Least fav: 6 (Buffy)
That is to say that there's nothing I really dislike about the show. Even the weaker episodes are better than most other TV. And the weaker characters all have their worth. I could talk about Buffy and Angel all day.

Fantastic stuff @cabbageconkers - are you back now mate? Dunno to be honest. Fair enough. Good luck in figuring it out mate; and man - I've known you for quite some time now... ...so as not to derail the thread - I was a fairly casual fan of Buffy; would only catch it when I remembered it was on and liked it but didn't go out of my way for it...

Best show ever on TV!!
Favorite moment: "I'd like to test that theory." - Rupert "The Ripper" Giles to Dark Willow, S6... I STILL get chills watching that scene.

Favorite characters:
Spike and Faith are my two favorite characters. Faith is what I envisioned The Slayer to be. She was confident, strong, badass, and motivated. I think that was kind of the point though, where we were supposed to question if Buffy was really capable of being the chosen one character. I think that's why we see much "better" fits along the way in Faith/Kendra/Kennedy and that's why we got the Sineya episode where we see the first Slayer. Faith to me was the best of the best though and I guess that's the difference between the best player on the team and the best player to lead the team. Also, it helped that Faith was equal parts hero and villain. It added a dimension to her character that Buffy just wasn't ever going to get.
Spike is Spike. There kind of isn't anything left to be said about him. I think when you have a character that can be both your biggest hero and your biggest villain that you don't have to defend him as the best character on the show. His journey is long and his character development is phenomenal. He gets his moment. But tortured, funny, charismatic, vulnerable, there just isn't an emotion that Spike doesn't tap into at some point of the series.
Honorable mentions would be Anya, Caleb, and Glory. Angel, Cordelia and Fred if we're talking the whole Universe.
Least favorite characters:
Willow. I hate Willow. She's obnoxious and the type of person I'd have to stand up and walk away from if I met her in real life. She constantly cries and puts the gang in some of the toughest situations imaginable. I think they got really carried away with her too. I know people who love her point to season 6 as this breakthrough time for the character but I largely think it ruined her, for if no other reason than what we had to deal with after that was over. I mean to each their own but I think she's one of the worst TV characters of all time on what is easily one of the greatest shows of all time imo. That's not to say she doesn't have good episodes though. I absolutely love, love, Doppelgangland and that's her best episode ever imo. Grave and New Moon Rising are also great Willow performances. So it's not all heat from me, but I just can't stand her.
Beyond Willow, I pretty much loath the Trio. I just never liked this idea of the 3 stooges who stumbled into this world and really had an impact on it. I know I was supposed to hate Warren, but he gets crazy X-pac heat from me. At least Whedon was smart enough to channel that hatred but still, those 3 were dogsh*t. I kind of liked Jonathan but he's guilty by association, unfortunately.
Favorite Episodes:
The Gift Fool for Love Doppelgangland The Wish Once More with Feeling Graduation Day 1/2 Hush Restless This Year's Girl/Who Are You Halloween Chosen The Body Conversations with Dead People Bad Girls Bad Candy School Hard
Seasons Ranked:
3 5 2 4 7 6 1
I guess? There isn't a season I don't like. Season 1 is a little bit of a struggle to get through but it gets absolutely amazing after that. Buffy is easily one of my favorite shows of all time. And I'm not generalizing that at all. It's Buffy, SOA, and Battlestar Galactica as the finalists for my "if you could only watch one show ever again" list.

The first few seasons were on at the same time as Raw if I remember correctly, so I never got into it.

I never watched it, but that's not to say I wouldn't enjoy it if I did watch it.
I do watch The Vampire Diaries and The Originals every Thursday, and I do like those vampire shows. So I have a feeling I would dig Buffy. I liked the movie, but then I was a Luke Perry fan so I watched it mainly for that.

So I have a feeling I would dig Buffy. I liked the movie, but then I was a Luke Perry fan so I watched it mainly for that. If your a fan of Supernatural as well as other vampire shows, definitely watch it. It's not perfect & go into Season 1 with slightly low expectations due to it having a low budget as I think it replaced a cancelled show from what I remember. -Favorite characters - Top 3: Xander; Always made me laugh & reminded me of if Ash from Evil Dead if he was still in High School Spike; Probably my favorite villain come Anti-Hero/Villain, his character was really well developed, he just oozed cool Willow; Mainly from Seasons 1-4, I loved her naivety, she was cute & again her character developed well, but she wasn't very well written in Season 7, but then again I don't feel many people were well written -Least Favorite characters Bottom 3: Kennedy; Awful, awful, awful piece of garbage as a "character", she was more villainous than the villains I feel Dawn; Wine, wine, wine & then causes trouble for everyone, she's in the background for Season 7 thank god, but grrr Kendra; It's just that awful accent that puts me off the character, but if I was including Angel, then it would be Connor Top 5 Episodes -Hush -Halloween (First episode I watched so it's slightly biased nostalgia) -Once More with feeling -The Body -Tabula Raza -Favorite to least favorite Season; This can change with the exception of 7, I really struggled to get through it. -Season 4 -Season 1 (As cheap & cheesy it may be, I felt it had a fairly decent amount of episodes for me to like) -Season 3 (Though I'm not a fan of Faith, I didn't mind the first part of the season) -Season 2 -Season 6 -Season 7 (I just hate the whole potential slayers which gave us the awful Kennedy, I still feel that the Slayers are a spell cast by Willow to give the gang some confidence against a powerful Big Bad as The First. So yeah the potential slayers are imaginary, that's just my thought on it just to wash the sour taste of season 7)

Stayed away from this show for years because I always thought it was a "girls show", me and my girlfriend each pick shows to watch, I picked Lost, which she watched all of, so she picked Buffy and I gave it a chance and it ended up being one of my favourite shows of all time, just everything about it, the comedy, the violence, the drama, the romance, the characters, definitely something for everyone. It's funny, for every season, I had a character I couldn't ing stand, I kept asking my girlfriend when they would die lol. Season 1: Willow (Just didn't like Alyson Hannigan in general, this show definitely turned it around) Season 2: Drusilla (awful, awful character) Season 3: Faith (Thought I'd love faith :/ but yeah hated her....up until she showed up in Angel then I wanted her back asap) Season 4: Riley (Who liked him really?) Season 5: Glory Season 6: The Trio (such a joke, which I know they were supposed to be but :/ i just couldnt take them seriously as villains) Season 7: The potential slayers. ALL OF THEM. Favourite seasons were definitely 2 and 7. Mainly because of Angelus and The First, again before this show I was never a fan of Nathan Fillion but damn Caleb was a beast, wish he was around for a longer, that eye gouge was brutal. Favourite characters: Angel, Spike and Anya. I prefered Buffy/Angel to Buffy/Spike and Anya/Xander ing built me up and kicked the crap out of me WHY WHEDON? WHY COULDN'T THEY BE HAPPY? (don't get me started on Fred/Wesley) and why did Anya get killed off like she was nothing in the finale, that really pissed me off. Saying all this, We did watch Angel at the same time, so that the crossover episodes would line up, and I've got to say, Angel is one of the most underated shows of all time, I honestly prefer Angel to Buffy, it has everything Buffy has and more, not to mention, Wesley is probably the most well developed character out of both shows. He is easily my favourite character in that universe closely followed by Angel. Angel is a spin off done right, but that's for another thread.

I'm a big Xena fan but I never gave this show a chance. I know the fan bases from both shows overlap tremendously so I'm willing to really give this a try.

Season 4: Riley (Who liked him really?) *raises hand*. The only time I didn't like him was the one off episode he had in S6. I really didn't like the direction they took him in. Also, Anya's death was awesome. Not every death should be dramatic.
