Somehow I've lived 31 years without watching the Evil Dead trilogy. This Halloween* I've decided to rectify this. But before I dive in I've got a question. Is the Evil Dead 2 a remake of the original? And if it is, should I just watch that and Army of Darkness?
Also, for anyone that hasn't heard, the new weekly series Ash vs. The Evil Dead premiers on Halloween night on Starz.
*How is there not an official Halloween/Horror Movies thread?

1. Evil Dead 2 is sort of a remake/different take on the first film. 2. Evil Dead 2 is one of the greatest films of all time and in my personal top five. 3. If you skip it, you're a fool! 4. Excited for the series, which has been renewed for a second series before evening airing! 5. The 9th Horror thread is stickied, brother.

I'd watch all 3. You don't need to watch the first one from a story standpoint, but it's a great horror movie in its own right, and has a very different feel to it than the other two.

I was asking about skipping the first one but I went ahead and watched it anyway after I made this thread. Thanks for the info though. Not sure how I missed that stickied horror thread...

It's not really a remake. It's more of an altered continuation of the original

Evil Dead 2 is far and away the best of the 3. I actually think the original is totally horse sh*t. It's aged worse than just about any cult classic I can think of honestly. So yes, I would just watch 2 and 3 and be on your way with the show.

The first couple minutes of Evil Dead 2 is a remake of the original but the rest of the movie is a continuation.

Evil Dead 2 is amazing. Evil Dead was cheaply made, but for back then I am sure it was scary. Army of Darkness sucks. I never liked that movie. How they went from Evil Dead 2 to Army of Darkness is astonishing.

This is a true story that I just shared with my friends on Facebook.
In honor of the new Ash vs. Evil Dead television show starting this weekend, allow me to re-live this epic tale of my teenage awesomeness. Let's flash back to February 1993, where me, Jason, and Greg lived a day like no other. Having introduced my friends to the awesomeness of Evil Dead 2, and many repeated viewings, we were extremely excited for the release of Army of Darkness in movie theaters.
On this day, we planned to grab lunch, then go see the movie. Now where would 3 18 year olds want to go eat lunch before seeing Evil Dead? Well Hooters of course. We ate lunch, then went and experienced the amazing film which delighted us very much. After seeing the movie, we realized we were hungry again, and well, being 18, we figured, why not go back to Hooters and get some more food and discuss movie some more. While partaking in the greasy food and reliving the movie, we thought to ourselves, "we really want to see it again." So being 18 with little responsibilities, we went to the next showing of the movie at the theater we just left after eating at the same Hooters we previously ate at.
After the second showing of the movie was over, we reveled in how silly our day had been, and we figured, that the only way this day could possibly be any better, was if we went and ate dinner at, you guessed it, Hooters! So we went back to the same Hooters we ate at twice earlier that day, and had our third greasy meal, and topped off what was an epic day in our lives and one that I shall remember until I perish. No matter how old we get or how far apart we live, this day is forever a day that shall live in our personal infamy.

I've watched the first two so far. I'm a little pissed at myself for waiting this long. I bought some movies to watch tonight so I might not get to Army of Darkness until Sunday but I'm looking forward to it.
