If anything another way of crowning the next WWE World Heavyweight Champion would have been the 30-man Royal Rumble Match similar to 1992 where the WWE World Heavyweight Championship was vacant and the Royal Rumble Match they used that as a way to crown the new WWE Champion. Ric Flair in 1992 went on to win that Royal Rumble Match and became WWE World Heavyweight Champion that very night at the Royal Rumble PPV by beating 29 other superstars by winning the Royal Rumble Match. Do you think that the Royal Rumble Match would have been a perfect way to crown the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion? The 2016 Royal Rumble Match winner would then make history by winning the Royal Rumble Match but instead of main eventing Mania as the #1 Contender instead of that they would have made history in the sense of becoming champion that night similar to what Flair did in 1992.

That's too long to wait, especially with the ratings dropping.

I'd have been okay if they had waited till the Rumble to crown a new champion. Could have made things interesting. But I'm a sucker for one night tournaments, so I'm not going to complain.

If this were December, I bet the winner of the rumble would be the champ.

Why is the OP so upset?
And no - what makes Flair's title win so great is that it is the only occurrence of that happening in history - no need to rip something off from over 20 years ago...

At the 1992 Royal Rumble, Ric Flair went on to win the Royal Rumble by winning the Royal Rumble and thus becoming the winner of the Royal Rumble at the Royal Rumble.

Ratings are in the cellar, going until the Rumble without a world champ would kill them even more so, especially since you can't really build a title challenger storyline. I wouldn't mind seeing it, but not under these circumstances.

I like that idea. I wouldn't mind waiting two months.

Too long without a champion.
That being said though, I don't necessarily hate the idea itself and it would do something to freshen up the Royal Rumble which is kinda stale, IMO.

Or just hand the title to Cesaro tomorrow night. Swiss side plates, I see it!

I suggested this in the original Rollins injury thread and people said it was too long without a Champion...which I guess I understand that...However, to say that it would effect ratings is kinda silly. Rollins was a good Champion and ratings sucked. Brock was Champion and never on TV and ratings were average. This isnt the 70s-80s anymore. The ratings arent directly effected by the champion. It still comes down to booking shows and not showing us the same old crap every week. Could they do like they did at the Rumble in 92? Sure, Id love to see it but it certainly wont take away from Flairs win either though. The roster Flair went through is 1000 times the roster that someone else now would go through. Plus, Flair's storyline was special. It cant be duplicated.
Oh and for the record, we'd only be going 2 weeks longer without a champion then they did in 91-92.

You guys are forgetting that when Brock was champion he didn't appear for 4 months so the Rumble is only 2 months away which means there will no title for only half that amount of time.

The tournament at survivor series is a better idea, if done right.
If it's an 8 man; then it's really silly.
It needs to be as big as the WM4 tourney

I would love to see the winner of the tournament immediately have a match with a returning superstar. I don't know how realistic that is or who that might be. Angle is out. Bryan will never see the WWE title again. Sting would be cool, but we all know that isn't going to happen. The only one I can think of would be Jeff Hardy and I don't see Vince making Roman put him over. That would all depend on Jeff getting out of his TNA contract. The tournament at survivor series is a better idea, if done right. If it's an 8 man; then it's really silly. It needs to be as big as the WM4 tourney Ideally yes, but judging by how everyone has been used in TV, are there that many guys that have a legitimate shot at the title?

I hope they go throwback. At WM4, Don Muraco and Hacksaw and Roberts weren't winning the title. But they were in the tourney. I mean they could call up Balor to be in the tourney; of course he won't win. But just to see him in a PPV, perfect opportunity without worrying about storyline. They need to forget about storyline for the matches in this (until the finals) and just let guys have some matches that we normally don't get to see.

How cool would it be (and how random would it feel) like the WCW/ WWF days of old to have Big Show open up with Finn Balor?
Or Dolph against Reigns....
Things were so randomly beautiful back in the day. Not everything had to be wrapped in (WWE's now poorly written) storylines.
Look at some of the old WCW PPV that teamed up random guys. There didn't have to be a reason. It was entertaining! But knowing WWE; just like how most of the big time guys come out last in the rumble and always lock horns and advance storylines (it's really tired) they'll of course have Kevin Owens against Dean Ambrose at some point; instead of Owens against someone really entertaining that he would never typically go up against.
I want this tourney to feel fresh, random, and unscripted. I am really begging for it.
