I would really like to see more of these. Jim Johnston is one of the most talented and versatile musicians I think I've ever seen. Hearing his input on iconic themes would make a great series.
You know, I think this is a really minor, but noticeable thing that gave the WWF a slight edge over the WCW at times. The theme songs. WCW had good themes, don't get me wrong, but they relied too much on stock music and not many themes really stand out today. The only themes that really stick out from WCW are the nWo theme (which is apparently a rip off of a porno song), Wolfpac theme, Goldberg's theme, DDP's (which is a ripoff), and Sting's Crow theme. While the WWF however, had countless themes that you could instantly recognize. Just a small thing, but it's something I've noticed watching all this old WCW.

Stone Cold had him on his podcast a while back.
Good stuff. The guy doesn't get enough credit for his great work over the years.

That's really cool. I would definitely watch a series of this. Love it, thanks for sharing.

Here's the demo of the original Undertaker song from Jim Johnston, sounded amazing from the get-go.
Here's another good one;

The guy probably deserves a Grammy or something. Not kidding.
A lot of those early WWF CD's sold very well. Johnson came up with that stuff from scratch. He's a very talented man.

He had a huge hand in getting nearly every single top guy over. He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

Why no mention of the song it was based on (Chopin's Marche Funèbre)? The music is public domain, which means they can't get in trouble for saying that is what it is based off of. Hell, Ritchie Blackmore made A LOT more money off Smoke on the Water and still went on record saying the main riff was an inversion of Beethoven's 5th Symphony.

Totally agree with you, the guy doesn't get enough credit, plain and simple.... I mean, how many people knew that he wrote the songs for Motorhead to perform for Triple H. "The Game", "Evolution"... Johnston belongs in the WWE HOF. The guy is a musical genius and has probably some of the most listened to music in the world, yet majority of people don't even know who he is.

I used to sit around for hours listening to WWE Anthology as a kid and playing with my figures.
I'm honestly shocked he's not in the HOF yet, he deserves it.

Read an article on why they are not going to induct him into the WWE HOF, at least not yet... Article by BleacherReportI personally think it's a cop-out excuse, but there are a lot of behind-the-scene guys that don't get the credit they deserve. Basically they say that they need a physical location of WWE HOF to properly showcase his work... I think it's just a matter of time TBH...

I'm all for Jim Johnston going in the HoF. Taker has the best theme in the history of Pro Wrestling IMO.

Should be a Hall of Famer no doubt. Even when WWF was getting demolished by WCW, the music always stood out as far and away being better. Wasn't even in the same stratosphere.

Wasn't this why Ultimate Warrior wanted that Warrior Award thing in the first place? For these "behind the scenes" guys? I'm all for Connor getting it last year but that award would be perfect for someone like Johnston. Plus, Dana Warrior has more charisma than 80% of the current roster. Knowing WWE, they'd eff it up and the first inductee would be Dunn.

He's brilliant and it's always interesting hearing about the process that he goes through and initial ideas. Such a cool guy.

I could be alone on this, but I really dug Jim playing Taker's theme on piano, and I would be for an entire WWE album to be released with various WWE theme songs just done on the piano. It's pretty soothing and sounds unique.

When Warrior was talking about the Warrior award. The very first person I thought of was Johnson. His music helped build characters. He created music that fit the characters perfectly. Would Warrior be as great without his music pumping from the get go. Would Shawn Michaels be as over with Sexy Boy, Taker with his, DX, Mankind......
