So I missed Bret Hart's entire WCW run. When Bret left WWF in 1997, I remember being so upset and said I'd start watching WCW to follow Bret. That lasted about two segments of Nitro on the following week and then I switched back to Raw. What are some of Bret's best WCW matches? I'm watching the one with Goldberg from Starrcade 1999 right now. I've seen the Benoit ones and maybe a small handful of others. Any you guys would recommend that I could check out on the Network? Thanks.

Bret didn't have very many good matches in WCW at all. If you watch both Benoit matches, his stuff with DDP, Booker and Sting then you've seen all there is to see there.

Found this online
1998: - Bret Hart vs Curt Hennig (at Uncensored); - Bret Hart vs Randy Savage (at Slamboree); - Bret Hart vs Diamond Dallas Page (1st US title match between them on Nitro); - Bret Hart vs Hollywood Hogan (on Nitro - a very tense NWO setup); - Bret Hart vs Sting - awesome lockerroom fight (on Monday Nitro);
1999: - Bret Hart vs. Diamond Dallas Page (2nd US title match between them on Nitro); - Bret Hart vs. Bill Goldberg in Toronto, Canada (unconcluded storyline, but good moment); - Bret Hart vs. Chris Benoit (very spectacular Owen Hart tribute match on Nitro); - Both WCW Mayhem PPV matches (vs Sting, vs Chris Benoit).

Thanks! I'm gonna check out the Slamboree match with Savage next. This tag match with Bret/Hogan vs. Piper/Savage from Great American Me 1998 is trash.

The Owen Hart tribute match with Benoit was one of his bests.

The Mayhem 99 match with Benoit is solid, as is the Owen tribute mentioned above. Other than those, not much to brag about with Bret in WCW.

I was curious about this as well a while back, I found a couple good ones with DDP and Sting. Can't remember specifically which shows they were, but one or two were TV matches and others were PPVs.
I do remember one match against Sting where Schiavone was ABSOLUTELY terrible (although I never thought he was good). The commentary was so atrocious, it managed to kill my enjoyment of Bret Hart and f*cking STING, two in-ring legends. Leave it to '99-2000 era WCW to do that.

I jumped to WCW with Bret, he was my hero as a kid and as bad as WCW could be, I preferred it to the to some of the attitude era stuff.
His Owen Hart tribute match is a 5* bout in my opinion, in my top 5 bouts of all time. You could feel the emotion watching it. They're a couple of belters that went completely under the radar for some reason, mostly from Nitro. People need to remember that most of his time there was spent working the heel role so his style was slightly different.
Here's a wee list I've put together for you @bashcrashwiley that you might not have got round to watching yet.
Firstly, here is what i reccomend on the WWE Network.
Bret Hart vs Ric Flair WCW Sould Out 1998. The match against Flair at Souled Out is fun, surprised nobody ever talks about it, prefer it to their WWF bouts. Was great to see Bret wrestle face again, meant the pace and style he used was a bit quicker. Refreshing after the 1997 run.
Bret Hart vs Booker T WCW Bash at the Beach 1998
Bret Hart vs Sting/Benoit WCW Mayhem
Favourite hidden gems.
6/22/1998-WCW Nitro, Bret Hart vs Chris Benoit ~ This was their first bout in WCW if I remember. Where as the Owen Hart tribute bout is a classic slow burner, this match is non-stop action for 15 mins. Obviously Bret was in heel mode, but brought his A Game that night. You'll like this. I honestly could watch these two wrestle everyday and never get bored of it.
Nitro.18.10.1999 - Sting Vs Bret Hart ~ This was actually the best bout between the two IMO. They were both fit mentally and physically (unlike Halloween Havoc), Bret was a face and the pace is consistent. It just worked. The promo at the start of the show was good too.
Thunder, early 1998. Bret Hart & Sting vs Nash and Savage ~ Match is a sideline to the nWo break up storyline, but its just so damn cool seeing Bret & Sting teaming up as two straight babyfaces taking on the nWo. If only WCW kept it this way.
and of course, my favourite ever Bret Hart promo.
His WCW run could of been spectacular if done right, but we've all went over that a tonne of times in the last ten plus years on here. 1998 should of been all about Sting and Bret IMO. With Goldberg and Booker getting primed behind them for 1999.

Thanks guys.
I watched a couple Bret Hart WCW matches today but they ranged from ehhh to meh to bleh.
Especially any involving the typical WCW f*ck finish.

Man, you have to watch Bret vs. Booker T from.... Great American Bash... or Bash at the Beach, one of them. The year was 1998 anyhow.
But in the match, Booker goes to give Bret a snapmare, and Bret sells it like a stunner and goes face first to the mat. My friends and I laughed so hard at it when it happened. We joked how Bret was so used to wrestling Austin that he just naturally went for the stunner sell. But at the same time, it was sad too. Because here was Bret Hart, the man in the WWE for years, who was seen as a mid-card guy who could hang with the main event guys once in a while if needed.

Both matches with Benoit are good, but if the ring was 20x20 they'd would've been even better IMO...

Here is the Owen Hart Tribute bout, doesn't seem to be on the network. Only downside is it is edited with WWE production music and logos.
EPIC bout....
Also, do any of you guys remember this................
Good memories haha!!!

Bret Hart WCW PPV matches I watched yesterday:
Bret Hart vs. Goldberg (decent until typical WCW f*ck finish) Bret Hart vs. Ric Flair (surprisingly good mostly due to clean finish) Bret Hart vs. Curt Hennig (good as these two can do no wrong in my eyes) Bret Hart & Hulk Hogan vs. Roddy Piper & Randy Savage (trash) Bret Hart vs. Randy Savage (decent until typical WCW f*ck finish)

He was far more wounded by the screwjob than he ever let on.

PJ you know the drill my friend.... lock it up!! Because you asked for it. Although I would have just moved it to the Bret Hart vs Tom McGee thread except seeing this is the older thread it would have become the main thread. Please read the board rules about bumping old threads.
