On Christmas eve My family goes to my grandparents and spend it with them, my dad's brother and his family. We eat, exchange gifts and pretend there is no animosity or hate between everyone.
On Christmas my family and I eat turkey, open gifts and straight up chill. My grandparents usually come for Christmas dinner which is ok even though we saw them the night before.
I like Christmas..

On my grandmother's birthday, the 18th, me, my mom, my aunt, uncle, cousins and a family friend all go to my grandmother's house and bake cookie/pastries called Kiefles.
Then just normal gift exchanging on Christmas day.

I go to my grandparents (mom's side) on Xmas day, where the whole family shows up at some point. They'll cook a spiral ham and turkey, plus a bunch of sides and desserts. We'll all exchange gifts and hang out. I'll go downtown Providence or Boston and hit up a few bars/clubs to end the night. Another good old fashioned traditional Christmas that I can admire and appreciate so I wonder if you guys either exchange gifts before, during or after Christmas dinner?

Nothing out of the ordinary, I guess the one thing I've done every year without fail for the last few years is watch Home Alone 1 and 2.

Christmas eve we normally go to my wifes extended family (she is Filipino) were there is no less than 200 family members. Open up gifts, drink eat. Then I get home and wrap what needs to be wrapped, put together what needs to be put together for my 2 children. While watching Christmas Vacation. After I am done I sit back open up a couple beers and watch Bad Santa and think about the year I have had.
Christmas morning the kids open gifts as my wife and I watch, then her and I exchange gifts. I start up my home made spaghetti. The kids play with all their stuff. We then get dressed and go to my wifes immediate family party (11 grand children and my son is the oldest at 10) so it is pretty chaotic, but very fun. We eat, then open all the gifts. We get home kids are tired and go to bed, me and the wife open a bottle of wine........
For New Year my Uncle is a very important person at the space needle, so my family and all his friends and colleagues go to the first floor of the space needle (underneath all the craziness) and watch the thing come down above us and the fireworks shoot out. Lot's of fun.
Great topic by the way.

Most the time we spent christmas eve with my mother's side of the family, as we (me my brother and sister) got older we didn't see that side a lot. As far as gifts are concerned we never really get gifts, my brother, sister and I exchange gifts when we see each other again. This year my sister is coming to my parents house where I will be. But yes typically Italians would open a few gifts on xmas eve and the rest christmas morning. Thanks for clearing that up I thought so but still a great family tradition you have and honestly since you are hoping to spend it with your mother's side of the family then it begs the question of your father's side of the family do you guys generally spend Christmas with them a lot is that why? We always had xmas eve with my mother's side and Christmas with my dad's side. Since we really lost touch with most of my mom's side (I only talk to 2 cousins out of 25) and most of my father's side is no longer with us I try to spend the holidays with the only family I feel I can trust, my father, mother, brother, sister and aunt. Sadly my brother can't make it this year but it will be the first in 3 years I'll spend it with my sister. I have nothing really against my mother's side its just they can all be selfish and I just don't get along with them.

Eat dinner, open gifts, and occasionally watch a movie.

Out to eat Chinese food & Movies. Did it every year since the kids were young. Now it's just me and the wife since kids are grown up with their own families now.

Sense my parents are seperated... Dec 24: I go to my dads house and we exchange gifts then we go to my aunts house and all of that side of the family (which is huge) have a X mas celebration. Dec 25: The night before my dad brought me home. ( My moms) and me, my mom, and my grandparents who live with us have our little Christmas. And then we go over to my aunts house and have dinner...

Believe me I get it I think if anything I am more closer to my father's side of the family more than I am my mother's side since growing up Christmas wise I have always spent my Christmas with my father's side of the family with a few Christmases here and there where I have had to spend it with my mother's side of the family

Then right after we all exchange gifts. Everyone snacks on food in between, and usually a 2nd sit down meal around 6. So you guys basically exchange gifts right after lunch or open gifts right after lunch? So as soon as it is Christmas morning you guys don't open gifts but rather wait until afternoon to do it? I think that that's a great idea honestly and then of course having Christmas dinner right after that I love that

Believe me I get that too and especially since your children are grown up with their own families surely you must spoil your grandchildren rotten when it comes to Christmas

Seeing your tradition it really just gets me so in the mood for Christmas I mean after reading this I am not only in the Christmas spirit but I can really appreciate just how your family celebrates it considering your wife's family is from a different culture just like how my family in my family is from a different culture
