I got back into collecting about 6 months ago and decided to start keeping up with the new releases, so I hunted for everything at retail and bought stuff off Amazon as it came down to $19.99. Now, a few months after the *new* wears off, I'm seeing a lot of those figures down to $15 that I bought for full price and thinking that maybe there's no need to rush and buy them when they first hit retail. Now, I'm thinking I'll wait a few months on Elite 40 and use those few months' figure budget to pick up a few older flashbacks off eBay.
So, do you like to pick things up ASAP, and if so why? Is it because of impatience or just because you're afraid you might miss your opportunity to get it? If not, do you have any kind of system for buying new figures based on prediction of price changes?

I don't collect everyone in every set, but the guys I do collect I'm impatient for.
Like I know e38 Daniel Bryan will shelf warm, but I'll buy it ASAP.

I pay retail for just about every one of my purchases, unless there's a sale like the one on RSC currently, but I rarely buy online.
I try to wait. I waited to buy E33 X-Pac, which I thought would sell quickly.

I try to wait and balance buying them when they first come out, to when there is a sale and if I will be able to find at retail again. There are certain figures that if found at retail I'll pay whatever the current price is as soon as I see it b/c you know you won't see it again. Yoko was a recent one with the tag straps. I saw him twice over the months those came out. I wasn't waiting to get it else where, I grabbed him both time s. I always open to play/display unless I find one of the hard to find figures in multiples. I will grab one or two to trade away later when I can't find what I am looking for b/c I missed out.

I usually get stuff whenever it hits retail and I don't get every figure from every set. I very rarely PO stuff from RSC.

I refuse to pay above retail for figures. I get them from Amazon (I have a prime acct so shipping is free) or retail if there's a sale. Just got Ascension and J&J from toys r us for $29 thanks to the 30% sale. If it's something I REALLY want (like tru Rollins or or the nxt figures) I'll pay full price. Anything else, I try to wait for Amazon warehouse or the price to drop.

I get everything except exclusives
Elites are 19.99 on Amazon
Really ain't worth waiting 3 months or so for them to drop to 16.99 and save like only $5 per figure for all that waiting

As soon as I find a new figure that I've been looking for, at retail or retail price online, I'll buy it. Although it has been easier to find figures recently, there's been too many that I've only seen once at retail. There's some I never saw at all. So I go on and buy the ones that I really want.

usually buy what i want when i see it at retail. dont want to miss out later cause i thought i was smart enuf to figure out if it going to shelf warm or not. last time i tried that was rsc edge, which i still need, cause money was tight at the time and thought he would last but he turned out to be one of the fastest selling rsc exclusives that i remember.
used to pre-order sets all the time but e40 is the first one since e25 i think. and only did that cause i didnt want to miss any of the figures in e40. probably rank it as my favorite set.

I normally buy at retail. Only buy online if a good deal...mostly figures that no else wants like jinder mahal which i got for $5. I also buy lots off of craigslist when i can. Granted you will likely get atleast 1 John Cena but theres normally a gem in the lots that are worth it.

sometimes its because I cant wait but other times its because I could miss it. Like when diesel came out it was easy for me to find him so I kept my first one moc then bought another off ebay for $14 and now I see them go for $80. im glad I didn't wait and im glad I didn't open my first one.

I usually buy right away because you dont know what the availability is going to be of a figure. For example there are people out there that would pay a fortune for Flashback Booker T or Big Bossman because they never could find them. Or Elite 16 Kevin Nash. However I saw multiple of all when they came out. I paid retail for them. Yet Elite 15 Yokozuna was impossible for me to find in stores. I ended up buying it from a member here.
So I could pay $25+ shipping from RSC or I could pay $20+ (if I can find it) plus gas money driving all over Gods creation looking for it and still not find it and then pay $30-$40-$50 for a simple figure that I could have gotten half the price months earlier.

I enjoy the hunt almost as much as the figure itself. But if I see a figure on Amazon for $19.99 that I really want, I go ahead and pull the trigger.
