I've always enjoyed Dean Malenko as a performer and have always been a fan of his but the way he was booked in WWE was horrible.
Things started of great when he debut with the Radicalz and then had a run with the Light Heavyweight title but after that he was turned into a joke. He became a ladies man with the nickname The Double Hoe Seven and after that he became a pervert who stalked Lita. To make matters worse my last memories of him in the WWE he was getting beaten up by Ivory and Jacqueline.
He retired shortly after and to be truthful I don't blame him because the way he was treated was ridiculous.

Idk but it sucks. Dean Malenko is one of my favorite wrestlers of all time.
I'm not saying the dude should've been Heavyweight champion or anything like that...but he should've held the Intercontinental title at LEAST once. They should've used him in 2002 to have matches with Benoit, Guerrero, Angle, Rey, etc. PPV matches. Would've been SICK.
Why they had him facing Jacqueline and Lita instead, I'll never know.

Dean Malenko never fit the WWE to me. Same with Saturn.
It's too bad that ECW was as broke as it was, because in 2000, I think Malenko and Saturn would have been better off going to ECW when leaving WCW. Or even staying in WCW. The fact that they held any titles in the WWE is just a favour I think for leaving WCW to go there during the Monday Night Wars.
Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero were sure to fit in with the WWE style. As it shows years later with both men being WWE and World Champion at the same time.

I'm sure Vince probably thought he was too short or something ridiculous like that.

Vince didn't create Dean Malenko, he was too small and excelled in technical wrestling.
Three things we know do not endear you to McMahon.

His armbar was too much for Vince.

I think the problem was Dean was awfully small. Especially in Vince's eyes. And Dean's lack of charisma didn't help change Vince's mind. Plus you have to remember the roster at that time was stacked to the brim. So guys like Malenko just weren't a high priority.

This will probably get a lot of hate but Dean Malenko wasn't that great. He was a hell of a technical wrestler but he also tried to do these weird power moves to guys that were bigger than him and it always looked like trash. He couldn't talk and he was too short which are two things that make or break you in WWE. The only big thing Dean really did was get a huge pop after taking a mask off and beating Chris Jericho.

I'm sure Vince probably thought he was too short or something ridiculous like that. That was probably one of the reasons. On the other hand look at Rey Mysterio

Malenko was pretty awful. Take away the Chris Jericho feud and his entire career is forgettable. The perv character stuff was pretty fun, though, that was about the best use of him for how small, uncharismatic and creepy-looking he was.
Apparently a really fun guy behind the scenes, though.

Most Cruiserweights were booked badly in the WWF until, I'd say, around 2003. The company really just had no idea what to do with them and gave them no sense of character or anything to set them apart, really.

Tbh I think it had alot to do with how short he knew he had left, the same as DDP; he was only active in WWE really for about a year, and that year he pretty much spent it putting guys over and having fun. I remember his little feud with Scotty 2 Hotty being a real big piece of the show in like April/May, and it being pretty big that Scotty defeated Malenko, it helped solidify those dudes (Too Cool) more I think. Always like Malenko, I'll always be more of a Benoit guy but Malenko was no slouch, great wrestler and sure maybe he wasn't the best on the mic but it, he could put on a great match and every feud he had in WWE seemed to have some importance to it. He also pretty much brought back the Lightheavyweight belt too from the brink of obscurity

Pretty cool hearing Jericho and Bryan talk about Malenko. I love this. Thought I'd post it since we probably won't be getting another Dean Malenko thread for like 29 years.

Dean was at the end of his career when he went to the WWF. Plus Benoit and Guerrero were the main reasons the Radicalz were brought in. Malenko and Saturn were extras thrown in that the WWF wasn't sure how to use. Also account for Dean's lack of size and charisma and it's no surprise Vince saw nothing in him.

Malenko is boring. He can't cut a decent promo and he was another midget in the land of the WWF. Sure he's a good wrestler, but since when is that needed to be big in the WWE? He's much better off doing the training and agent stuff.

I love all the Malenko is boring stuff here.
Clearly none of you have ever watched him wrestle. The guy could go with anyone.
On why WWE didn't use him.. I think it's because he was ready to hang it up and be backstage as a trainer.

Malenko was ing amazing. An absolute joy to watch in my opinion. However, he couldn't have been further from a Vince McMahon type guy at that time. Plus, Malenko was about 40 when he signed. So time wasn't on his side in a promotion that focuses on younger guys.

There was only one spot for a short dude who was a badass wrestler but had zero charisma. Benoit got that spot.
