His work in WCW's cruiserweight division is some of my favorite stuff. He was an awesome worker, but never got used properly once he got to WWE, which was super loaded with talent at that time and plenty of talented guys were lost in that shuffle.

I love all the Malenko is boring stuff here. Clearly none of you have ever watched him wrestle. The guy could go with anyone. On why WWE didn't use him.. I think it's because he was ready to hang it up and be backstage as a trainer. If I remember correctly (it has been...fuuuuuuuuuuu*k 15 years now) Meltzer said from the beginning that part of his deal coming in was to become an agent at some point. I think he was pretty much running Jakked/Metal the last 6 months or so of his in ring career. Everything we got from Malenko from the time he came over until he retired was a blessing. Bret wasn't the guys biggest fan (but that probably is 100% due to Malenko being careless and ripping Bret's groin to shreds by crotching him on the top rope) but that's about it as far as it goes when it comes to workers not liking his style. The kind of person who calls Malenko boring is probably the same kinda person who hates the 89 TMNT movie but has watched the '13 version 12 times on Blu Ray. |

They could easily put a few matches with him and Joe teaming, a few ECW matches with him and Eddie, like 10 WCW matches, and some Radicalz and Light Heavyweight Title matches. Would be sick. Even though the chances of it happening are slim. |

Dean Malenko was good in the role he was given. I never saw him as potential main event guy. I always thought he was mid card guy at best. I did however enjoy when he started the storyline with Lita when he had a date with her. I did also read a few comments about how he was near the end. That's pretty true as well, since he became a road agent by the end of 2001. I think Dean Malenko did fine in his career, and with the roster WWF had in 2000/2001, where he was at was the highest he would go.

I'm guessing he was nearing the end of his career by then anyways as he was 40 in 2000. With the WWF's Light Heavyweight division being squandered, I guess they just didn't know what to do with him.
The ladies man story reeks of McMahon humor. I'm sure he found it hilarious.

If you're a fan of Dean, you owe it to youself to watch Dean vs Joe and Dean/Joe vs Bulldogs! Maaaaaaaaaaaaaan... I have that Owen Blu Ray sitting on top of my PS4 waiting to be watched. Yeah, but that "James Bond" theme music was AWESOME! @monoxide23, have you gotten to the Dean/Benoit "Souled Out #1 Contender" match yet? I'm no Russo apologist, but I remember that that particular match ranks up there with the BATB 96, Sting/Hogan Starrcade 97, and Benoit/Hart Mayhem '99 Title match as the most important WCW matches of all time to me. SWANK finish on that Deano/Benoit match as well! Russo is Russo, but he gave me the '99 title tournament, and that #1 contender' match, so beyond all the other crap, I'll forever be grateful to the guy for those 2 matches. Outside of the WrestleMania XX main event, those are the 2 matches that took me back to my mark days like no other... Cena/Punk MITB '11 came close, but that "CENA LOOSES HE'S FIRED" stip kinda ruined the whole angle for me. |

And on the subject of Russo, I find it funny that his theme song was based on "Iron Man". The entire premise of the song is someone who wants to save the world, but ends up destroying it. Pretty funny looking back. I think a severely overlooked WCW match is Scott Steiner vs Goldberg at Fall Brawl 2000. Easily the best WCW match of 2000, and the best PPV of the year. It's just a shame Russo had to screw it all up! |

Honestly, I think that might be Goldberg's best match. I watched it within the last year and thought of it as a 4 Star match. It's even better if you just kinda let it go from you memory and then 6 months later watch only that particular match (instead of the over booked PPV it was part of.)
Reminding me of how awesome that match is has garnered you my respect my WF friend.

Malenko was 40 when the Radicalz debuted and retired a year later after a 22 year career. Not exactly sure what some posters wanted to get out of the guy, he was on his last legs.

he was 40, didn't have an impressive physique nor was his size a novelty. loved his work with his brother. in wcw when i was a kid i must admit i found him to be the 'boring benoit'.

Malenko is a huge example of someone who would have fared immeasurably better if they were able to come to WWE 10/15 years later.

The guy was a great talent and his name was epic. The name Perry Saturn stood out and had a wow factor about it. He could've been something great if booked better.
Sadly when the Radicalz debut Vince only had his eye on Guerrero and Benoit.
