Just been to see Bowling for Soup at Newcastle Academy (fun n rocking as always).....but I put up a status on facebook about the amount of other bands' shirts I saw in attendance. It caused a bit debate so my question is this.....do u think its disrespectful to turn up at a bands gig with another bands shirt on? I personally dont like it but id like to see what the opinion is. Also to a lesser extent ive been an SAFC season ticket holder since 1997 n it pisses me off seeing lads with Liverpool, Madrid, Barcelona tops etc. Thoughts?

I don't see the problem with wearing another band's top to a gig, I wouldn't do it but I don't dislike those who do.
However, wearing another team's shirt to a football game is something I do dislike. Either wear the team you're there to support or don't wear a football top.
Seems a bit backwards, I know, but the support given at a football match compared to a gig is different imo.

I've been to a lot of gigs where people are wearing different band shirts and don't see any problem with it... I suppose it shows people that they like going to other gigs and what other bands they're in to (...they all usually seem to be similar types/genres of music to the band performing). It can be a great conversation-starter too, if you're also into that band. I guess if you turn up to an Iron Maiden gig rocking a Justin Bieber shirt though, you're not going to win many fans...

Big up toon Almost went to the supposed last tour but I've ultimately went off them tbh
In my opinion it's not a complete sin, I try to wear a bands merch to their gig if I own it but if not, there's nothing massively wrong with wearing another bands merch

Ironically I feel weird when I wear a bands shirt to their show. Not sure why, haha
I don't judge either side of the fence though really. Although I agree on the football shirt topic

It is quite common especially amongst metal bands, to wear other bands shirts.

personally if I didn't own one of their tee's I'd try and get one before the event or buy one there if that's an option. I really only wear band tees so I'd have to wear another bands gear to get to the event haha.

I saw Soulfly last night, plenty of fans wearing other bands shirts and even the band themselves wearing Pink Floyd and Motörhead shirts, I don't see the issue, still supporting the scene and the genre.

It is quite common to see people wear other band shirts at gigs. I sometimes wear a band shirt to a gig, not always of the band I'm going to see, though I normally get a shirt from the merch stand when I get there.
