I was listening to the Solomonster recently and a point was brought up that really isn't a bad idea:
The light-heavyweight division has always been a highlight for me going all the way back to the ECW deathmatches between Psychosis and Rey.
Now that Kalisto is champ again (after a coma-inducing run by ADR...who could also be technically classified as a light- heavyweight), and in a quasi-feud with Neville over the strap, is the plan for the WWE to bring back the Cruiserweight title, only to disguise it as the US title?
This, to me, is a decent idea because it can give the high flyers something to go after and it can give the other mid-carders a reason to wrestle over the IC title.
I know we had the Cena run last year( it was great with the open challenge ) and when he comes back, yes he could go for another shot at the US Title, but at this stage in his career, he doesn't need it.
I'm all for this tbh and hopefully this is a trend that can continue.

No, Kalisto will lose it to someone random guy. After a few pointless matches, then that guy will lose it to some other guy, and the cycle continues

Nah, the champion is just a luchadore and wrestlers are just smaller nowadays, so it's likely he'll feud with a couple guys in the 220 and under range

Nope. The last 3 champions are considered heavyweights. One cruiserweight winning it isn't going to change it.

No, but I would like to think that with Kalisto as champ, the US Title is now decidedly a midcard title and that they're done using it as holdovers for guys they're Shoving into the uppercard/main event (Ambrose, Rusev) or as a consolation prize for former main eventers/world champions (Sheamus, Cena, Del Rio). Let the WWE Title be for the top guys, the IC Title for the former top guys/guys on the cusp of he main event, and the US belt for the midcard.

The way I see it, it CAN be a stepping stone to higher things. Real Talent shines through regardless. Anyone who is actually good will be pushed up the card and anyone who isn't main event worthy can at least have something to do besides jobbing to the monster of the month. |

Now THAT would be a good idea. Especially now that they hired a lot of guys who fit the Cruiserweight mold. The US title could very well be the new CW title.
