If you're an elected official of some sort you an get out of it with ease. You'll miss a days work but what you do is wait until they have everyone in a room. They'll ask if there's a reason anyone cant serve on the jury. Of course you'll hear people come up with all sort of garbage to try to get out but if you just stand up and say that you're an elected official for the gov't and you believe any testimony given by a police officer to be more justified then that of Joe Schmo, they'll 9/10 times dismiss you. I got called last year I think and soon as they asked I stood up name dropping every police officer that I knew and that I would take the testimony of a cop over just a random eyewitness.

When I got a letter for a summons for jury selection I was so excited and I think I was perhaps the only person I've ever known that was excited for it because the judicial process has always fascinated me.

I'm 37 and I can't even count the number of times I've been called for jury duty (I postpone it for a full year every time so it's like getting the letter twice). But seriously I would guess I've gone in about 7 or 8 total times to different courthouse each time. I've been dismissed mostly before lunch, just once after lunch except the most recent time..... Last spring, they tried to put me on a 3-5 day jury. At the time my son was not in school and I needed to be home with him during the day while my wife works her day job (I work evenings and weekends). I had arrangements for the one jury duty day but hadn't expected to be away from my son all week. I told the judge while I was being interviewed for the final jury selection. I had no one for my 5 year old son. She told me that was not a legal excuse to get out of this obligation. Then when I was told to rise and depart the courtroom back to the jury room, on my way to the door she changed her mind and let me go. The judge told me off for being uncooperative. Lol. She was sharp. I had made another excuse just before that.

I'm 27 and have never been summonsed. My parents have, aswell as my uncle. I think I would enjoy it, but, I would have to fight the urge not to take a Polly Shore approach to the case.
