SLAM WARS Episode #2: ATTACK
Baltimore, Maryland | Feb. 27, 2016
Backstage, SLAM!’s newest broadcaster, Renee Young, catches up with Joey Mercury. “Joey, you’ve been the right hand to the Commissioners for several months. Can you give us any update here from what the EMTs said?” He shakes his head. “Renee, I appreciate your doggedness, but really, there’s nothing to say yet. The APA has left the arena chasing after that man—person –monster, whatever, and EMTs are taking Brad to a local medical facility. The technicians did not want to speculate, but with his back and spine taking the brunt of the impact, there’s no telling what it could. Needless to say, these fans paid to see a wrestling show tonight, and they’ll get it.”
The original SLAM! Hall of Famer, “Iron Man” Rob Conway makes his way to the ring. He takes off his sunglasses and sets them down in the corner and takes a microphone. “You know, you fans deserve a night of fun, laughter, and action – not to see something like that. So, I know my match was scheduled for a little later, but I think you people need this night to start with a treat. So, I am setting out my open challenge for this World Class Championship right now!”
A screeching guitar riff starts an eerie rock song through the speakers and Brodie Luke Harper makes his way down the entrance ramp. Conway goes for a handshake, but Harper hits a lariat to begin the match.
Match #1 | Rob Conway defends vs. Brodie Luke Harper (World Class Championship)
Harper controls the match in the early going with his size and strength, forcing Conway to change his gameplan. He starts to hit with quick strikes and move around like a junior heavyweight, but Harper is quick to respond jumping around himself. He hits Conway with a frankensteiner, and a stiff dropkick. Conway fights back by taking Harper out at the knees. He adds a missile dropkick of his own to cut Harper down to size, but can’t keep him down for three. Harper regains control, giving Conway an alligator roll and following that with another lariat. He climbs to the top rope, but Conway hits, the ropes, splitting Harper across the turnbuckle. Conway grabs him and pulls him from the corner, planting him with the Iron Lung neckbreaker! He hooks both legs to keep them out of the ropes and gets the victory! (12:32)
Before Conway can celebrate further, Finn Balor’s music hits over the speakers once again. He walks down to the ring and gets in Conway’s face. He points to the belt on the champions’ shoulders, signifying a challenge. Conway nods, and they stare down as the camera fades out.
The Las Vegas skyline is shown in the distance before the camera zooming back out to show a cameraman walking behind Detective Dan Barry. He walks towards a curbside wedding chapel where a lot of commotion is going on inside. Barry bursts in the door, where some familiar faces turn around, shocked by the interruption. Zack Ryder is the groom, with Brian Meyers and Trent Barretta of the Devil’s Rejects as groomsmen. Big Ryck of the Underground, Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, “Big BC” Brodus Clay, Tommy Dreamer, and more are in the pews. The Godfather is preciding over the wedding, and his women appear to make up the bridal part – including the bride. Barry shouts, “Godfather, I need to ask a favor, and it can’t wait.” Godfather closes the book in his hands. “You come to me, the Godfather, on this – the day of my ho’s wedding.” Ryder pulls his sunglasses off, staring directly into the camera. “Are you serious bro?”
Match #2 | The Ascension vs. Cody Rhodes & Goldust (Tag Team Match)
The Ascension slides into the ring as the action returns to the arena. Konnor takes a microphone, warning the Rhodes brothers. “We did not start this war nor did we ask to be a part of it, but tonight, we do intend to finish it. Welcome to the Wasteland.” Goldust and Cody make their way down the entrance ramp, and the action begins. The Rhodes boys get an early advantage over Viktor, but quickly Konnor gets into the ring and the Ascension reasserts its dominance, getting quick tags to double-team Cody. Eventually, an errant back-elbow attack by Cody knocks down the referee. This brings Goldust back into the ring but he, too, falls victims to the numbers game as Ascension beats him down into the corner. The two men go to opposite corners of the ring, setting Goldust up for the Fall of Man. Before they can get the move off, Matt Hardy runs down the entryway. He trips up Konnor in the near corner and slides into the ring. He drops Viktor with the Twist of Fate. Konnor returns to his feet and gets clotheslined from the ring by Cody. Goldust rolls over onto Viktor as Matt gets the referee back to his senses to count the pinfall victory. Hardy, the former ‘Super Friend’ alongside Hurricane, climbs into the ring to celebrate with the Rhodes brothers. (9:18)Backstage, Renee Young stands by outside of the trainer’s room for a report. “Thanks, JR. I’m standing backstage here waiting to hear from the personal trainers of SLAM! Wrestling who may have an update on what is to come with regards to the condition of Interim Commissioner Maddox.” The door opens behind her and Tyler Breeze walks out. “Oh, Renee. I know you’re waiting patiently for an interview, but I just have a lot going on right now.” She starts to correct him, but he continues, “Well, Renee, I guess I can answer the question on yours, and everyone’s mind. When will Prince Pretty get another chance at the World Class Championship? Well, if Finn Balor thinks he’s going to step in front of me, I’ll be happy to prove he’s wrong.” He ‘blue steels’ the camera as it fades back to the arena.
Bo Dallas makes his official debut at the arena, as he shakes hands with fans at ringside before climbing into the ring. He wipes his hands with a towel and then takes a microphone. “My loyal Bolievers! Thank you for the warm reception,” he begins as the crowd boos him. “It’s time, at last, to make wrestling great again. SLAM! has produced some of the best wrestling that has come in the last ten, 15 years. Women are thriving competing in matches against men. The Tag Trios divison has given rise to many stars from African American, Mexican, and other minorities. Even Canadian! I know, that’s crazy. But through all that, how is wrestling GREAT? I come from down South, where we believe in certain values. I only ask that you, the fans, continue to support me as I look to instill those values on—”
Before he can go on, a steady rock beat echoes through the arena and Kevin Owens makes his way down the entry way. The crowd erupts in chants of “Fight Owens Fight!” as he climbs into the ring. Dallas puts out his hand for a shake. Owens grabs it, but instead kicks Dallas in the midsection. He wraps him up and plants him on the mat with a Package Piledriver. Owens stands up and grabs the top rope nearest the hard camera, letting out a loud growl before leaving the ring.
The screen goes black. A single light flares up above a man seated on a short stool. He mutters, “No more heroes. No more heroes.” The camera zooms in and catches a tint of the gold face mask of Stardust. His red eyes reflect the light above him. “Congratulations, Hurricane, Rhodes Brothers. You’ve earned a night off of my watch. I have other matters to take care of, and though the Descension could not get the job done thanks to that trifling Matt Hardy, I feel a great sense of confidence that Matt Sydal will take you out for me, Hero. No, boys, tonight, I shoot for the stars.” He lets out a cackle and the light above him burns out.
Match #3 | Kimber Lee defends vs. Johnny Mundo (Super X Cup Championship)
“The Prince of Parkour” makes his way down the entryway, glaring at the SLAM! faithful near the stairs before climbing into the ring. The Super X Cup Holder makes her way out to the ring, slapping hands of fans. She sets the trophy down near the timekeeper’s table and climbs into the ring as well. After championship introductions, the two step up and get in each other’s faces again, as seen at the end of National Pro-Wrestling Day. Mundo takes a swing, but Kimber ducks under it and hits him with a German suplex! That opening move acts a microcosm of the match, as Johnny acts cocky throughout, getting tripped up many times by his own ego. Mundo creates moments of sustained offense, but can’t seem to get the finishing blow. Kimber catches him in mid air, planting him with a dropkick and then putting him in the Alligator Clutch for the pinfall victory! (15:22)
The referee hands Kimber the trophy, and she begins to celebrate. Mundo gets back up and gets in her face again. Before they come to blows, Dean Malenko makes his way down to the ring. He points Mundo out of the ring. When Johnny gets up the ramp, Malenko pushes Kimber to the ground! He locks her in the Cloverleaf! Before he can do any damage, Bryan Danielson runs down to the ring! Malenko bails, and Danielson helps Kimber to her feet.
Jonathon Coachman welcomes the fans at home to the SLAM! Studioes located in downtown Minneapolis. He rewinds to the events earlier in the night involving an attack on interim commissioner Brad Maddox. He says that details are still sparse, but Maddox was taken to a local medical facility, and “reports indicate the injuries are far worse than a simple contusion.” Taking it back earlier in the evening, Coach runs down first the opening match of the night pitting “The Revolution” of Charlotte Flair, Emma, and Paige against “The Party Animals,” Adam Rose, The Bunny an El Torito. The Bunny picks up a victory for his new teammates after hitting “The Bunny Hop,” a frog splash, on Emma. In the match that led to the attack on Maddox, Finn Balor & Big in Japan (Davey Boy Smith Jr., Giant Bernard, and Luke Gallows) defeated Tyson Kidd, Natalya, and the APA when Bradshaw & Faarooq run out on the match. Balor hits the Coups de Grace on Kidd for the win. Coachman then welcomes “The Beauty & Brawn of SLAM! Wrestling,” Celeste Bonin to the studio. He asks her about her immediate plans in SLAM!. “Coach, my end goal is of course to win championship gold. I want to be the first female World Class Champion in SLAM!, but obviously, I have somebody in my way right now, and that’s Mary Dobson. I don’t know what I did to piss her off, honestly, I think she’s just Crazy, but…” Before she gets any further into the statement, Dobson walks up behind her. Coach stands up, saying he doesn’t want any violence. Dobson says, “You’re damn right I’m Crazy!” She pulls out a lead pipe and swings it at Bonin. She dodges it and hits Dobson with a right hand. The two begin to brawl throughout the studio. Eventually, Dobson is able to hit Bonin across the skull with the pipe! Before she can do any further damage, crew members come and grab a hold of her, as the cameras fade back to the arena.
Bryan Danielson is backstage, packing his bags when Kimber Lee comes up to him. “Excuse me, what the hell was that?” Danielson looks confused. “Let me remind you: I am the princess who saves herself. I don’t need your help.” Bryan scoffs, “I wasn’t saving anybody. I saw somebody take a cheap shot and wanted him to know what I thought about it.” She glares. “Well, next time, wait until I’ve had a chance to let him know what I think first.”
Match #4 | Alberto del Rio & ?? vs. Jamie Noble & Samoa Joe (Tag Team Match)
Jamie Noble and Zeb Colter are standing in the ring as we return to the inside of the arena. Samoa Joe makes his way down to the ring, shaking hands with both men. Alberto Del Rio makes his way down the aisle, taking a microphone. He announces that his partner is a member of a Mexican legacy that rivals his own – Eddie Guerrero! “Latino Heat” makes his way down the entryway to join “El Patron.” The pair immediately begins taking it to Noble, working him over, but eventually the “Redneck Messiah” gets a tag in to Samoa Joe. Joe comes in and looks dominant, focusing on El Patron’s knee, including wrapping it around the ring post and threatening to take the steel stairs to it before Eddie dropkicks the stairs back into his face. Guerrero gets Noble back into the ring, hitting him with the three Amigos. As he plants Noble the final time, Joe returns to the ring. He drops Guerrero with a clothesline and then sets him up on the top rope. Joe plants Eddie with a Muscle Buster, rolling him to the center of the ring. Del Rio tries to get involved, but Noble grabs his leg, preventing the break-up of the pin. Joe, Noble and Colter escape, as Del Rio climbs back into the ring to prevent any further assault on Eddie. (14:32)
Backstage, Renee Young catches up with the APA as they return to the arena. Faarooq helps Bradshaw to walk, as they get to her to answer her question, “Faarooq, Bradshaw, what happened? Did you catch up with him?” Faarooq shakes his head. “What does it look like? Yeah, we found him. Did a number on us, too. Guy’s tough… Never did get a look at him. He’s a white boy, though, I’ll tell you that…” A histerical laugh comes from off-camera as Stardust walks up to the scene. “You boys, you’re looking the wrong direction. You need not worry about the past. You need not worry about the future. You need to worry about the here and now. Tata!” With that, he throws down what appears to be a smoke grenade and escapes in the commotion.
Match #5 | The Hurricane vs. Matt Sydal (Grudge Match)
The Hurricane walks down the aisle as the cameras return inside the arena, and JR and Heyman speculate on what riddle Stardust has cooked up most recently. The bizarre one’s compatriot, Matt Sydal, makes his way down the aisle, but Hurricane meets him halfway. They battle around the ring, with the friendly neighborhood hero banging Sydal’s head off the crowd barricade. He tosses him in the ring and takes off the cape, allowing Sydal enough of a chance to catch his breath and gain control of the match. He hits Hurricane with a quick-strike offense, the two men each showcasing their high-flying styles through the bout. Eventually, Hurricane catches Sydal out and plants him with the Eye of the Hurricane. He grabs his cape and goes to the top rope, hitting Sydal with a cross body. Sydal is able to get the shoulder up, but it only delays the inevitable, as Hurricane hits him with the Vertebreaker for a pinfall victory. (11:54)
Backstage, Alberto Del Rio is backstage, and he knocks over a bunch of Joey Mercury approaches him, telling him to calm down. “Alberto, I know you’re upset about earlier, but listen: you’ve got another chance next month. I’ve talked to my contacts at the front office. You’re not done with Jamie Noble or Samoa Joe. Next month, we’ll have a special Tag Trios match with Samoa Joe, Jamie Noble, and Crazy Mary Dobson taking on yourself, Celeste Bonin, and the World Class Champion, Rob Conway.” Alberto nods his head in approval as the camera fades out.
Jim Ross and Paul Heyman go over other developments in the night, including the attack on interim commissioner Maddox. They officially reveal that in addition to the big trios match announced moments prior, a No. 1 contender’s bout has been booked for next month’s SLAM WARS Episode #3, Revenge. Finn Balor will be without the help of Big in Japan when he takes on Tyler Breeze for a future shot at the World Class Champion.
Main Event | Money & Power defends vs. SLAM! All Stars (Tag Trios Match)
The challengers enter first, one by one, with Adrian Neville leading C.M. Punk, with A.J. Lee, and finally Sami Zayn. Money & Power enters as a unit, flanked by Naomi Knight. Much like the previous battles between these two rival teams, this one does not take long to unfold into an all-out brawl. After the teams do a bit of brawling, Neville takes the big man Mark Henry out of the match, launching himself with a springboard tornado DDT out on the outside. Big E Langston takes out CM Punk and himself on the outside, spearing him into the guardrail, bending the beams around their bodies, causing AJ Lee to have a fit on the outside – that is, until Naomi starts a brawl with her once again. Meanwhile, on the inside, MVP dumps Neville to the outside, but gets met with an Irish whip to the corner by Sami Zayn, followed by the Helluva Kick! Zayn goes for the pinfall, and we are seconds away from crowning new champions when Stardust appears behind Zayn, pulling him from the ring! Soon, the Ascension and Matt Sydal join him. They beat down Neville and Zayn, leaving them lying in the ring. Eventually, the APA emerges from the back along with Joey Mercury, and the quartet leaves through the crowd – this match effectively ending as a disqualification win for the All Stars, but a no contest with each competitor laid out at the end of the night.
In a barely-lit backroom, Dan Barry pulls up a chair to a desk, where Godfather sits in front of his women. “You come to me seeking a favor, on the day my ho was to marry Zack Ryder… a wedding that is off now, thanks to you, and perhaps, some of Ryder’s friends showing better judgment than his drunk ass.” Godfather starts laughing, “what is it you need?” Barry takes off his sunglasses, “Information. Somebody kidnapped Gregg Fitzsimmons. Someone who isn’t a member of the SLAM! roster, but probably was hired by someone who is. I know that you know people who might take money for a hit.” Godfather lights his cigar. “Dan-o, Godfather knows a lot of people. Godfather ain’t going to implicate himself. Or his friends.” Barry reaches into his bag. He places a case of cigars on the desk in front of him. “I think you’ll find these are authentic Cubans. I’m a detective, not a cop. I just need information.” Godfather sets down his own cigar over an ash tray, cracks the case and takes a whiff of the cigar. “Buddy, you keep bringing me these, and I’ll tell you anything you need.”
