One thing that's annoying about collecting Jakks these days is how they left kneepads off so many dudes. I want to get this:  but the missing kneepads are such a glaring thing for me. I'm still going to get it, because the titles and figure itself is awesome, but that little detail would have added so much more. |

Jakks would do that at times and I am not sure why.
The ECW Series CM Punk comes to mind. It didn't have knee pads on either.
If you are a loose collector, it doesn't matter since you can just add them on, but as a MOC collector it would be pretty annoying.

I coulda sworn they did this to one of the RA Booker T's I used to have too. It really does look great without the kneepads though. I wish Jakks had painted all their belts, the Tag one looks solid.

There are several ones that showed the kneepads in the proto pic only to shaft us on them in the final release. I think the biggest problem with leaving them off is how bad the painted skintone below the kneepad looks.

This irked me so much. It wasn't too bad as a loose collector but it was irritating having to try fork out for loose pads on the bay or take some from some other figure and have that one be padless.

Probably to save money the cheap bastards. Pretty much, and laziness. There was many many occurrences of this happening. The worst for me was for RA 21 RVD and Carlito. Now, I added plain black ones for RVD, but Carlito needed dedicated blue ones with his logo. And those didn't exist completely in that blue (there was another figure, but the blue was off, and why take one of another?). The proto had them. And his attire was so cool! Just another bonehead Jakks decision. Up there with leaving off designs on the back half of the figure, TTL arms (no elbows) on a RA body and larger body types for smaller wrestlers... |

Yeah, it was cutting corners in a cost cutting measure. And at the time it was argued against heavily on these forums. To them it was "just kneepads" but to collectors it would be like buying a Superman figure without the cape. It's a part of the wrestlers' look and costume. After that big blowup on the forums I remember the next series of Classic Superstars pretty much every figure had BLACK kneepads thrown on every figure, whether they needed them or not. Koko with black kneepads, Doink with black kneepads, etc. Then they put black kneepads on the Bruno figure even though he did NOT actually wear them! LOL They just never really understood the attention to detail collectors were looking for. |
