Is the lack of real theme songs.
It's still one of my favorite wrestling games, probably 3rd, but I still wish they had put in some BGM theme songs for everyone.
Did they ever say why they did that? And has anyone ever modded the right themes in? Just curious.

I always wondered that myself cause it obviously wasn't a rights issue. Either way, World Tour and Revenge are my 1a and 1b as far as wrestling games go. Put the 1997 WCW roster/titles/arenas into the No Mercy engine and I may never leave the house again.

Ric Flair as a playable character.
That's pretty much it.

There is no reason why couldn't have had proper themes.

I think it has more to do with working with a still kind-of-kind-of-new console for them, and managing cartridge space. The only two wrestling games AKI had made before for N64 didn't even have entrances. More features came as they got more familiar they got with the system and ways to compress data.

If it had defendable titles and themes I'd prefer it to No Mercy.

Has anyone ever tried modding it? I've looked around to no avail.

I could not agree more. The other thing I never really liked was Goldberg! You have no idea how much ass I wanted to kick with Goldberg, but he was one of the worst characters to play as I hated the weird combo system they tried to use as it made Goldberg no match against other players who were skilled. Four player games of Revenge with my friends would last hours. Uneasy alliances would be formed only for someone to screw someone else over. Scott Hall, Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan and Kevin Nash were the guys my friends and I played as.

No Mercy's customisable attires were better than Revenge's.

Well there was a lot of guys that would of ended up having either nWo black & white/"b-team" or nWo Wolfpack theme songs, then there would be Raven's theme for all the Flock members, that's like almost a third of the roster right there.. compared to Wrestlemania 2000 a year later, the WWE made their entrances more flashier with titantron videos & everyone had a unique feel to the way they'd enter the ring, WCW at times just had the same fireworks go off, same lighting with many wrestlers walking down to the ring the same..
I admit i was also disappointed the first time i fired that bad boy cartridge up only to not hear my favourite nWo theme song play, i still prefer WCW/nWo World Tour's bgm to Revenge though, that sweeeeeet main menu music always fires me up.

Just bought an N64 and this game in the last week. I'm off this weekend so I'm hoping I'll be able to make some time to dive in.

All 4 of the AKI N64 wrestling games are still some of my favorite games ever. In terms of fun and playability I've always found them superior to every wrestling game that's come out before or since, but I am super happy with what 2K has been doing since taking over the WWE franchise.

I second that. No Mercy and Revenge are the most playable and fun to play, but 2K has been doing incredible work since they took over the license. They're opening the game up creatively in ways I only dreamed of when I was little. I feel like they've accomplished more with their games the last couple of years than THQ did in the 15 or so years they had the WWE license.

I feel like sometimes people don't give THQ enough credit it deserves, 2K have just taken the THQ formula at the time (WWE 13) & have just tweaked it a little & added a bunch of new features to spice things up.. without taking what THQ had at the time, 2K probably would of ended up creating a new series on the level of Legends of Wrestling or TNA Impact or who knows, THQ set the bar for what a good acceptable wrestling game should be.. Smackdown 1 - Here Comes The Pain was them at their best, sure SD vs. Raw 2006, 07 & 09 were pretty good aswell, 10 - 13 were pretty average but they were still playable and you could get some fun out of them.. I mean the wrestling games before Smackdown 1 came along weren't really that good (excluding the AKI N64 series), would we even have a Universe mode if 2K hadn't of taken what THQ had already built?, the detailed CAW system?, the community creations?, a lot of the matches that was already there ready for 2K to capitalise on?, a lot of the stuff that we now take for granted we owe to THQ's work over those 15 years..
I think people mostly just remember negative thoughts of THQ during the last couple of years they worked on the WWE games..
Back on the subject though, me and a friend of mine booted up WCW/nWo Revenge the other week & noticed that the game didn't have any sort of tournament mode in it, WCW/nWo World Tour had a Red Robin inspired Tournament, Wrestlemania 2000 & No Mercy had the King of the Ring tournaments aswell.. I don't know if people on here are high on tournaments but it could of made Revenge that much better imo, me & my pal always enjoyed playing through tournaments & chasing after the TagTeam titles in each of the other games, it gave you something else to kill time with other than playing random matches in exhibition.

I wanted to ask actually, I won the titles as Hogan, Goldberg, etc...but they don't enter the ring with them?
Do they only show up with them when you get to the end of Championship Mode or what?
