Yeah. They should've been hyping an Owens/Zayn match since the night after the Rumble if this was the route they were ultimately going with Kevin. There's no excuse for what they did. It's just piss poor laziness.
I think you could say the same for AJ Styles and Y2J's feud. It's been brilliant, in my opinion (mostly because Chris is absolutely on fire recently. He's regained that midas touch in the past month) - but the glaring loophole is that they have already fought like 3 times.. on free television.. and now people feel like they don't care.. no matter how much Y2J or AJ try.
I agree, to some extent. I don't mind the story they told up to the point of the heel turn (though three matches, if this was the plan all along, may have been a lot excessive), but everything since the turn has been a collassal letdown. Jericho's done the best he can on the mic, but that can't save them from the fact that they've been booking AJ like he's an idiot (being beat twice due to distraction), and essentially basing this entire segment of the feud on causing each other wins.
Hell, why should anyone give a crap about Zayn? He just showed up. Again, not everyone watches NXT. For some people, he's just some guy that came out and attacked Owens and they expect people to care about him.
He's doomed to fail lol
Exactly my point from earlier. If they kept him around after the Rumble, told the story of him and Owens and built that, it would have worked.
Instead, he comes up a few weeks before Mania and all we're told is "he's rivals with Owens". No character development effort at all.

That's on creative for failing to carry on the momentum that the NXT Talent that were brought up had. They just appeared and had no follow-up as to why we should care about them.
I remember Kofi being one of the last guys to get the classic type vignette talking about different things each week then debuting. Carlito comes to mind too. Those were fantastic.

Can't disagree with any of that, really. It probably just SEEMS to me like it's being booked well because of how poorly everything else has been done. Small mercies, and all that. Honestly, the entire card up to the 3 main events is largely filled with trash that few will care about. The title match will get crapped on. The only way to save this Mania as a spectacle genuinely seems to be through the Shane/Undertaker match.
Hell, they even had Dusty Rhodes do those kind of vignettes back in 1989, just in case the WWF wrestling fans weren't aware of him or the NWA back then.
Speaking of IRS, this is one of my fave vignettes
Super underrated character and wrestler.
Dude, watch this one, it is so great because of how wrong it is!
