Break out your beer and cracker jacks because baseball season is back! The World Series rematch between the Mets and Royals will highlight tomorrow's opening day, with Pirates vs. Cardinals and Rays vs. Blue Jays occurring earlier on. Let's get it, guys.

The two World Series competitors AND the two statistically best teams from last season are all squaring up on Opening Day. When's the last time that happened?
I'm hype.

I am psyched that the Pirates are opening the season, but I am still pissed that Neil Walker isn't a Pirate still. I felt he was a major part of their turn around and was my favorite Pirate over the last few years with Cutch and Marte. The only good thing is with him being a Met now I will be able to see most of his games on the local networks.

Keep forgetting about this board, but predictions:
AL East: Red Sox, Jays, Yankees, Orioles, Rays ( I could see the Red Sox finishing 1st or 4th) Central: Royals, Indians, Twins, White Sox, Tigers West: Astros, Rangers, Mariners, Angels, A's WC: Jays/Rangers AL Winner: Red Sox (again, maybe) if not Rangers
NL East: Nats, Mets, Marlins, Phillies, Braves Central: Cubs, Pirates, Cards, Brewers West: Dodgers, Giants, DBacks, Rockies, Padres WC: Pirates, Giants NL winner: Pirates
World Series Pirates MVP: Harper/Correa CY: Price/Kershaw ROY: Seager/Buxton maybe? I dunno
Biggest trade, Red Sox acquiring another ace in the summer cuz THAT ROTATION SUCKS BALLS

It was trade him and have upset fans or let him hit the market and have fans upset that we didn't offer what he's going to want and be upset with him for no significant hometown discount. Harrison being the every day 2B is fine by me. And when Kang comes back, it's going to be a very solid lineup.

Yeah the writing was on the wall last off season with the arbitration hearing...but I still hoped the Pirates would at least try to resign him. Being someone who watched plenty of Mets games in his life I don't think Pittsburgh got anywhere close to what Walker was worth.

And a pitcher with the first RBI of the regular season. The Pirates pitching staff is solely why I'm ok with no DH. Well, till someone gets hurt. Cole (while not the pitcher in question) could be a PH any day of the week. He's said before he's obviously a great pitcher but he's taken many long hours working on his fielding and more importantly, hitting as he's in the NL. He's not a distance hitter but he's always been good at finding the gap and getting himself on.

But with the amount of money he is going to want, he's not going to be a Met longer either. Their pocketbook isn't large. It's basically like what they do in hockey in contract years. Send good players they won't afford off to a World Series contender on loan for a season. Mind you the Pirates are favorites to win the World Series so the loan defeats the purpose of the reason, but like you said, the writing was on the wall. He wasn't staying anyways. Better to just get Harrison on 2B for good and move on.

As much as I would love to see it, I just don't see it, I wasn't a fan of their offseason moves, should have kept Walker and Happ. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm picking them to finish above .500, but just miss the playoffs. Not keeping those guys worries me. Plus, who steps up if someone gets hurt? Plus, keep in mind we still have the Cardinals and Cubs in the same division. The race for the division title may go down to the last game. One things for sure though, it's going to be a long season.

Not entirely sure if I think they make it passed the WC though.

Nice start for the Dodgers, just wish they saved some of the runs for the rest of the starting staff.
