So yeah I know this is probably common knowledge now & I'm probably a tad slow on catching up on this but as I was searching up on google images the other night I somehow stumbled upon an image with Kane wearing a cape, i could of sworn I've seen a pic & read about Kane donning the fire resistant cape somewhere in Powerslam magazine many many moons ago but that must of been like almost 15 years. I'm glad he got rid of that thing & this must of been a dark match right about the time he debuted but damn he looks like a Saturday morning cartoon villain with that thing on, i thought by then capes were out along with the corny WWF gimmicks with this whole Monday night wars going on & adding a more "realistic" & edgy stuff to the shows eg. nWo hostile takeover..

1997 Kane was perfectly done.
It's a shame that pretty much everything after 2001 wasn't. I still think they should have called an audible and had Kane win the 2001 Royal Rumble.

The cape was a fire hazard so that's why he couldn't wear it on TV.
Having said that I liked it.

Glad they got rid of the cape, but it's pretty cool to see rare things like this.

I'll admit the cape would look cool on Kane for an action figure or if the Kane character was featured in a comic book but coming out in person wearing it especially at that time it kind of looks out of place seeing as how he was built up to be this unstoppable monster who was Undertaker's equal, oh look at me I'm coming out to destroy you but first take the time to admire my pretty cape why don't you.. plus with him taller than Undertaker the cape for me kind of hid Kane's muscular frame, he needed to show off his hulking arms that could destroy any man put infront of him.. I guess maybe they were going with him wearing this to go against Undertaker's entrance gear as he would normally wear something similar at the time. I'll give them props for keeping the red & black flame theme going though..

It would have worked fine, had they done it like they had with Undertaker, where he would only wear it at PPVs.

The footage is from a House Show back in 97. Here's a gif version In this picture, it looks like the guy outside the ring is folding up his cape Here's the Justoys Bend-Em's Card drawing of him And then there's several pictures of him from his first photoshoot where you can see the cape. Here's one

Pretty cool that a few things do exist with the cape (video footage, drawing and photo) with it being so short lived. It's also really cool that Glenn Jacobs was given a gimmick that lasts so long.

Is it just me or do the 2 guys behind Kane look like bad cosplay attempts of Paul Bearer and Corporate Kane.

They did the same with that one Taker photo where he was first sporting the leather gauntlets.

Did Kane appear at any house shows before his debut? I know some wrestlers do, but I always wondered if they kept the costume hidden until Badd Blood.

He never made an appearance as Kane until Badd Blood. It would be interesting if they tested things out at House Shows but Kane was referenced and planed out in advance so that couldn't really work. His debut had to be televised, and he had to confront Taker.
