I was browsing through some photos of the prototypes of the Classic Superstars line and saw a pretty dope looking Gorilla Monsoon in a red jacket with a plastic bow tie on the back of the Series 7 card. I thought I must have missed it as I thought the one that came in a black jacket was from Wave 9 (I was actually thinking of Paul Bearer from that wave lol). Did Jakks ever make a physical prototype of the figure with the red jacket that was shown at any event eg Ringside Fest, Toyfair etc? If so I'd greatly appreciate any photos, thanks

Not that I can recall offhand. I wish though.

After looking at photos from past Toy Fair and Ringside Fest events, I wasn't able to come across any of this figure in its original prototype attire. In fact, I'm not even sure Series 7 was ever actually on display before it was released to stores in 2005. As far as I can tell, the prototype image was changed long before it made its way to stores. Here is an alternate prototype image of CS7 Gorilla Monsoon, a.k.a. the version that was made.

Are there any other CS figs with a story like this one? Different outfit on the card?

In terms of changes there were a bunch; CS10 had Dusty and Monsoon (again) changed majorly, different altogether molds and size (normal sized parts to the larger Yoko-sized parts) CS10 also had Rocky Maiva get a torso switch CS9 had Hawk with the (at the time) brand new tall kickpad mold, but that was replaced with normal boots Mmmmm thats all I can remember right now, but there were a bunch. Most the time it made no real difference or was for the better. Some times it hurt the figure, for example I think what they did to the CS10 Monsoon was better, but the Dusty ended up looking pretty lackluster (this was rectified with the beaut in CS13 though )

It originally had the tongue painted red instead of the regular black. here is one of the more drastic changes in designs came from Adrenaline 1 Jeff hardy still pictured here in the elimination chamber box art, later removed from the photo.

Oh man CS9 Animal had a buttload of design changes! But wow I did not know there were so many iterations of AD1 Jeff; I mean the packaged proto is just RA2 Dreamer and the Raw10thAnn Hardy together, and the Jeff head on the proto's is just the FM Jeff, but man that final product is so ing tight, for both figures!

That Tommy Dreamer head scan is still one of my favorites of the Jakks era

I still dont know why they made jeff with the long hair in that attire, he had switched to short hair when he started painting up and being weird.
to me it looks like the FM/FC head with a new hair or de sculpted forehead/hair
i remember when that figure went for over 100$ I had almost bought one back in 2005 or so.
