Hey guys. I'm almost done finishing up my Custom Hollywood Hogan but I am reluctant to do the black beard. I practiced doing the beard on another headscan, with just painting black on the beard. I thought it looked horrible. It was too dark, and just frankly, didn't have a life-like feel to it. And looked nothing like the beard on the Jakks Hogan figures. I saw someone recommend me to try the "dry brushing" technique.
Anyone know a good way to replicate the beard that Jakks did on the Hogan figures? Anyone that has done a Custom Hollywood Hogan have any suggestions?

What I always do with my Hogan customs is actually paint the beard/stubble in a dark brown color, as you're right the jet black look just doesn't have a very realistic look too it. I don't know where you are living but in my area the local crafts store is called Michaels and they sell this brand of acrylic paint called Apple Barrel, the bottle looks like this:  The color is called Chocolate Brown and it can also be found at most Wal Mart stores, good luck, man! |
