I do not steal belts, but can you really blame them ? The belts can sell for more than the retail figure and belt. So its pure money for those sneaky enough to do it. Also mattel does nothing about it aka selling elite belt sets even though people have asked many times. Retail stores don't bother either with there barely working cameras or non-existent cameras that are just for show. Unless someone working at the store catches the person red handed, not much can be done. Also at wal-mart stores a manager has to catch the person in the act of stealing to take any action. So most wal-mart hourly workers don't even bother.
Mattel, Retail, etc all turn a blind eye to this. Then they wonder why people steal so much stuff... That would be asset protection catching them and getting fired by the store manager as a result

No dude I worked at wally world twice and never was an employee fired for not stopping a theft of any kind. But the asset protection person did get fired for doing such a crappy job.

The thing I most take away from this is that Vince Russo is right about the "worker" that is cab driver Sami Zayn...people want the belt, not the character. In some cases, folks prefer BOTH. Don't think though for a second that this won't be happening with E 43 ADR, not to mention how many times I've CEN' a certain E 40 figure who also comes with the U.S. Belt, which much like his catchphrase would suggest, you couldn't see it in the box! I will also note that said wrestler is offered sans cloth shirt as well! In other words, Mattel has further encouraged the thieves who aren't missing out on much, in regards to a lame, incomplete figure inside the box that comes with the belt, so to speak, as opposed to the other way around. Therefore, the 1,000th Cena who will sometimes come "naked" in a set due to the vaunted budget excuse, welp, to put it mildly, he'll be left behind. However, that U.S. belt that comes out not nearly as often, that sucker will be gone just like the debut NXT belt.
Back to Sami, I've seen him once myself, but only at a GS. Higher cost + not that appealing of a character (my opinion, well, Russo's too) = PASS for a non-thief who DOES only want the belt, but refuses to resort to such a low-stooping level down in the gutter among the other grimy slime oozing anything but Machismo within the WWE Mattel collecting hobby. Honestly, it practically makes me wanna get outta the game when I look around and see myself surrounded by such vile bile like those offenders carrying out these actions, committing a crime that hurts young children more than anyone else, let alone grown adults who feel gutted by it. Imagine little Eric(a)--hopefully NOT dressed like Eminem (thumbs up for the "White America" reference, no?)--walking into a store and the amount of sheer disappointment upon his/her face when the only Cena (or whomever the fav. wrestler may be in each case) remaining on the pegs is a swapped monstrosity mess...or worse, has missing items, minus the aforementioned shirt, which already probably bugs some widdle ones. Albeit probably not nearly as much as it CLEARLY bothers a fool on a forum aka myself LMAO...and I don't even care for Cena nor want any more of his figures personally.

Welllll I don't blame them. Are cameras just there for show? Heck I could go into target open up HOF 3 Ted and take the million dollar belt and they won't suspect a thing Sadly, in some places, yes. I know a guy who used to work in retail security, and he said it depends on the place. Some have at best one person monitoring all the cameras at the same time, so things can get missed. Some don't even have anyone monitoring them at all! They have recording cameras, and the tapes get looked at later if a theft is discovered. And some stores, like the bigger Walmarts will have not only active video monitoring, but also plain clothes loss prevention security in the store as well. So it all varies from store to store.

Which is why when one bought this figure, I kept the belt and gave Sami to my son. I just don't get the appeal for sami.
