So I'm currently playing Type-0 HD and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. It's the first FF game I've played since 2002. I know it's a port over from a handheld but I like that it's more "hack and slash" so to say and not turn based battles like the older FF games I couldn't get into.
For anyone who's really looked into the Gameplay trailers, or follow the FF games religiously, will XV's battles be more streamlined like Type 0 with open combat or will it return to more turn based battles?
The theatrical trailers look amazing, and I'd love to pick it up, but I know I won't enjoy it if it's turn based strategy and not more button mash and have a ton of fun as I would with other games.

From Wikipedia: The game's battle system, dubbed the Active Cross Battle system, is a similar spin on the real-time battle systems from the Kingdom Hearts series and Final Fantasy Type-0. Rather than the coursing of a menu interface, the player selects commands directly mapped to buttons on the controller, such as "Attack", "Defend", "Magic", and "Item"; there are also other actions such as jumping. Upon pressing the desired button, the character will then perform the desired move. Key to winning battles is said to be found in maintaining a constant and adaptable flow of appropriate actions done by both tapping and holding down command buttons. The battle scenes are seamlessly integrated into the environments with no load screens or transitions, similarly to Final Fantasy XII. When approaching enemies, a gauge appears on-screen: if the player does not run away in a designated time, the battle is triggered and the enemy will pursue the party. A contextual cover system allows characters to shelter from attacks and recover health, or trigger actions with specific weapons.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XV

Don't know if you've tried the Platinum Demo for the game, but I thought it was pretty fun.

Yeah the Ducase or whatever demo was much better than the nightmare sequence in the Plat demo. However I hope they let you finagle with the controls a bit because I love the free fighting but I enjoyed Type-0's controller setup much more than what the demo presented to me.

I have been considering possibly getting this after a price drop or if I get it used at a decent price. Don't like the series, but mostly for your reasons. I hate turn based. I liked the first two Kingdom Hearts, so if it's the more real time attack combat I'm actually interested

It seems like it's completely real time attack. Well alright. Yep. If you can get your hands on Type-0 HD when you get your console. Well worth it and a nice taste of what's to come for the next game even if it's a handheld port.

It's ported from a portable so it's story is good but not great, and it's cutscenes get the points across but aren't the cinematic masterpieces we're used to but it was one hell of a fun game.
