Real simple Post your starting 5 by position and feel free to discuss each other's teams, argue, debate, enjoy! PG - Magic Johnson SG - Michael Jordan SF - Lebron James PF - Tim Duncan C - Wilt Chamberlain PG - Magic was a clear choice for me. Who else could be considered the best ever next to Jordan? He was an innovator, he was clutch, he was smart, athletic, a leader, a foundation on a team that had Kareem on it. He WAS the Lakers' 5 titles. I will say it was close between him and Pistol Pete, because I think the Pistol was one of the greatest SG - Everybody here knows I love Kobe Bryant, but you HAVE to pick Jordan. MJ was revolutionary and he was integral to the success of this game. His will to win is unmatched to this day (but Kobe is ing close). SF - There were a number of ways I could have gone. I love Bird (even though I hate the Celtics), but chose James because he is a beast. One of the greatest athletes this beautiful game has ever seen, and I don't even like the guy. But you gotta respect. PF - Another close one for me. I almost picked Karl Malone here. Then I thought about Kevin Garnett. Both were forces to be reckoned with. But I had to pick Duncan. He led his teams to multiple titles. He was a versatile player as well who could have the offense move through him and be the defensive anchor in the middle. C - This was a hard one to gauge. It could have been 4 or 5 other guys here. Kareem, Shaq, Hakeem, Russell, D. Robinson. Despite of his finals record, he falls in the Lebron category; Wilt was one of the most athletic individuals to ever live. Hard to argue against that. He also averaged 50 points for a whole season and an astonishing 27 rebounds a game. Plus he had a season FG% of 70%. Amazing.

Hard to argue with those selections. Mine would be:
PG - Oscar Robertson SG - Michael Jordan SF - Larry Bird PF - Tim Duncan C - Wilt Chamberlain

PG - John Stockton SG - Michael Jordan SF - Scottie Pippen PF - Charles Barkley C - Hakeem Olajuwon
I'm not saying these are the best players at their position all all-time. However I think this is a team that would compliment each other extremely well. Barkley is there because he is my favorite player of all-time, and honestly, severely underrated. Yes he didn't win a championship, but people these days mostly know him for his tv shenanigans and quotes. And while that is a great thing about him, people forget how dominant and crazy good he was. He brings great scoring, good defense, great rebounding, and severe intensity to the team.
Jordan speaks for himself, not only because he is the greatest of all-time, with an uncanny ability to take the ball to the hope and an unstoppable fade away jumpshot, but also because he is one of the greatest defenders of all-time as well.
I personally think Olajuwon is the best all around center in NBA history. He did win 2 championships. He was virtually unstoppable on offense with his post moves, Dream Shake, and mid range game. On top of that he is also one of the best defensive centers and shot blockers of all-time as well. While Wilt was dominating guys a lot smaller than him, Olajuwon was dominating the NBA at what is arguable the toughest era in its history against the likes of Ewing, Robinson, Shaq, Moses Malone, and more.
I hate Scottie Pippen. And I hated the 90s Bulls. But I can't deny that Pippen is one of the greatest all around players in history. On a team with scorers like Jordan, Barkley, and Olajuwon, a guy like Pippen who can do it all is necessary. He can shoot from long range, take it inside, rebound, pound the ball, and is one of the best defenders in NBA history. He is the perfect jack of all trades for a team like this.
Multiple reasons I took Stockton. He isn't the best point guard ever. But I would argue he is arguably the best ball distributor of all-time. He court vision was unrivaled, and I want someone who can quickly what to do with the ball and who to get it to on this team. On a team littered with scorers this is the best role a point guard can fill on it. He also was a great clutch long range shooter as well. While he wasn't a great defender, he was aggressive and pesky, and he is already on a team with three of the best defenders ever.

PG - Magic Johnson SG - Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant SF - Lebron James PF - Tim Duncan C - Shaquille O'Neal Magic - Pretty straightforward here. Legendary point guard who could play any position on the floor. He's basically a bigger Russell Westbrook without the poor decision-making and erratic play. Oh, he can he make hook shots too. MJ or KB - Michael Jordan, the greatest player to ever play the game. And Kobe Bryant is the closest thing to him. They're the two most complete players to ever play the game. And despite what fair weather and ignorant sports fans think, the question of who was better between the two isn't as alien as they make it out to be. Anyways, I picked either or for two reasons. Number one, as stated before, they're the two greatest and most complete basketball players ever. Second, and most importantly, in combination with the other starting 4, I don't think the choice here would make a difference. Lebron - He's a beast who can give you so much in several different categories. He's nearly impossible to contain, and coupled with the other players mentioned, he would be an absolute nightmare. Tim Duncan - One word: Fundamental. His play is about as flashy as his personality. But you can't deny his greatness. He's even capable of knocking down a 3 every now and then. Shaq - I don't understand the picks for Wilt. I'm not saying he wasn't great. But his stats are highly suspect. The league was VERY different at that time and not nearly as competitive as it became later on. No way he would have scored 100 in a game in the modern NBA. That's why I think Kobe's 81 was more impressive. Kobe was hitting jump shots, 3s, and difficult layups. Wilt was standing 2 feet from the goal dropping the ball in over short players. Anyways, to further elaborate on my choice for Shaq... He is hands down the greatest big man to play the game. No big man has ever had the power and AGILITY that the Diesel had. Go watch him in his prime during the Lakers 3-peat. Dude was just ing nasty.

All of these lists have been really good if you're just picking the best single player at every position. Most of those lineups have a problem in that they have 3 or even 4 volume scorers on the roster (and TBH I don't think you can really put another prolific scorer next to Jordan and expect them to get along). I also don't really consider Tim Duncan a power forward, especially with how the game has evolved for the better over the past decade.
If we're talking about making the best five-man unit as far as the five guys that would play best together, I'd go for this:
PG Jason Kidd SG Ray Allen SF Scottie Pippen PF LeBron James C Tim Duncan
I don't think that lineup has any glaring weaknesses. Pippen and LeBron don't shoot the three particularly well but you're getting great defense at every position and skillsets that complement each other. Each guy on this list has also shown willingness to accept supporting offensive roles as well. I would go to war with that lineup any day.

There are two different lists people are posting. I was asking for best player by position, not an all time team that would maybe compliment one another.

PG-Magic Johnson SG-Magic Johnson PF-Magic Johnson SF-Magic Johnson C- Magic Johnson
But since I cant clone 1 guy....
PG-Magic Johnson SG-Michael Jordan SF-Larry Bird PF-Dennis Rodman C-Shaquille O'Neal
Obviously the name on the list that stands out is Rodman. There's no question that guys like Duncan & Malone are better scorers then Rodman but Rodman's ability to rebound and literally guard any body on the floor puts him on the list to me.

PG: Steph Curry SG: Michael Jordan SF: Lebron James PF: Tim Duncan C: Shaq Reasoning PG: Steph Curry - This is controversial, but Steph is arguably already the greatest shooter of all time. The reason I chose him over someone like Magic is because the team would have absolutely no three point shooting without him. Another nice fit for this team would be Steve Nash.
SG: Michael Jordan - No need to explain this one.
SF: LeBron James - To me, he is far superior in every aspect compared to Bird besides outside shooting. He is the best passing forward of all time, one of the smartest players on the court, and should be a multiple time defensive player of the year.
PF: Tim Duncan - The man lets his game do all the talking. For a man with 5 Championship runs, Duncan has shown he can be a star, or take on a much smaller role and execute it to perfection. The Big Fundamental just does everything right on the court.
C: Shaq - The only player I have ever seen who I would say is completely unstoppable. There was no defense that could stop Shaq. He was simply too big and too atheletic to guard once he had the ball. A once in a lifetime type of player.
On a side note: I would include Kareem/Hakeem on this list over Duncan, but I decided to go with a team with all players in their natural positions

Shaq was probably my second C. I don't think we've ever seen a player dominate the modern era like Shaq did. He was also surprisingly nimble and athletic for a guy his size and could run the floor with the best of them.
15-1
that's all I'm gonna say
