Ok so today a light bulb broke (I'm not sure what kind of bulb) and I immediately picked up the pieces with my bare hands (which was stupid) and put them in a pile. From touching the light bulb pieces, I got white powder all over my fingers and I washed my hands for about 1-2 minutes. But, my hands felt kind weird after and my hands were itchy. Also, about 10 minutes later, when drinking from a fast food cup, I touched the top of the straw where I was drinking from with my fingertips and I'm also worried I contaminated the straw and drank from it.
Am I gonna be okay? I'm not poisoned or anything?

That doesn't help. At all. I already (poorly) cleaned it up. It mentions nothing of what happens if you clean it up poorly. I'm worried that I may have mercury poisoning. |

Has anything happened other than your hand getting itchy? Providing that you washed your hands well (like you said you did) you should be okay. Might want to get some cream or something for your hand though.

It depends what kind of a bulb it was. If it was a simple regular incandescent bulb, the white powder was probably kaolin and isn't harmful.
If it was a fluorescent bulb, the powder is phosphor. Phosphor is toxic.

If anything else ends up happening, you'll absolutely need to call a doctor, even if it's just a precaution. Get something to help to soothe your itchy hand and everything should be alright. |

Kaolin clay, which is crushed into the powder that you find inside incandescent bulbs, is oftentimes used as a drying agent and could cause itchiness and irritation. |

 I think you're alright my man, I think you're all right. No but really, these new light bulbs are toxic as  . You are supposed to leave the room with all windows/doors to the outside open and not enter for 2 hours if one breaks due to how toxic they are. If it was a light bulb that has been around for half a decade or more, don't worry the slightest. |

My dad's an electrician and as a kid I'd constantly go with him to work when school was out. Light bulbs of all kinds have touched my hands.

It was in a public place where it broke, not in my own home. I called the place and told them what happened. |

Similar thing have happened to other board members, and there is a very small amount of mercury in bulbs, not enough to infect somebody. |

You'll be fine. Make sure you wash your hands and put on anti-itch lotion. Also, drink plenty of water for the win. You have nothing to worry about. Doesn't matter what type of a light bulb it is.
